We fell in love with the location. This cabin has watched my 3 children grow up and now it has become a favorite destination for my grand children. My late husband and I shared many weekends at the cabin, creating many wonderful memories. My hope is that others will walk away, after a stay at this cabin, with memories that will last a lifetime.
There is something about looking out a window and seeing a mother bear and her cubs, that makes your heart skip a beat with wonder and excitement. Sitting quietly in the hot tub, catching snowflakes on your tongue as the steam surrounds you. Hiking through the empty woods for hours and then relaxing in front of a warm fire with a good book. Walking or taking a snow mobile into town, just to reassure myself that I am not the only human being left on earth.
I just wanted to write to let you know how much we enjoyed staying at Tapawingo. It was beautiful and far exceed my expectations. We all appreciated the lovely appointments, refurbishments and delightful mountain lodge decor. It was perfect inside and out! We had a couple of good sunny days as well as a day or two of snow storms. We were able to enjoy the skiing at Alpine, Squaw and Northstar, a quiet cozy day in the cabin and some cross country skiing in the woods behind the house. My husband and I are definitely looking forward to renting the cabin out again, preferably on a non-holiday weekend & with only a couple friends so that we can get away from the crowds and relax! I've already recommended Tapawingo to a colleague of mine who is looking for a high end rental this spring.
We tried to keep the cabin clean and tidy during our stay. We did not have any mishaps so I assume that everything was in good shape when the caretaker arrived today. That said, please feel free to give me a call or email if you have any questions.
This house has an easily accessible location in Tahoe City near Tahoe City and the surrounding area's necessities. You are never too far from anything one would desire.
The house too has all you need including a fire pit, hot tub, and all the fixings to stay at the house and cook and relax.
We would definitely recommend the Bear Cabin to anyone looking for a Tahoe getaway.
We had a wonderful time in the Bear Cabin! The place is very well appointed. Both spacious and cozy all at the same time. We hit the slopes and recovered in the hot tub afterwards. Couldn't ask for more.
Great place to stay in tahoe. We loved the setup and would stay there again. Only downside was the absence of blinds on the windows. Made it difficult to sleep
At the last minute we had to cancel a trip to Canada because my husband could not fly due to eye surgery and I found The Bear Cottage Cabin by pure luck. The owner Cheryl was unbelievably accommodating - we were in contact with her one day and the next day we were on our way to the Cabin. The Cabin is beautifully decorated and from the first step inside you feel like you are at home. Beds are so comfortable, the surround sound system both inside and out was so soothing...but not as much as sitting on the huge deck or in the hot tub enjoying the smells of the forest and the privacy that the cabin offers. It was a wonderful experience and I can't say enough good things about the owner...we will definitely go back again.
I stayed here with a group of friends for President's day weekend, and we couldn't have picked a better house. It's absolutely beautiful and close to everything we could possibly want. I love that while some of us could go snowboarding, other could just go into town and get Mani pedis, or just hang out in the cabin and stay warm, it really suited everyones needs. Also a house with 3 king beds was unbelievable! Everyone slept comfortably. The hottub is giant and very clean, it was a godsend after a day on the slopes. But the biggest draw for us was the living room!! All 9 of us were able to sit on a big beautiful comfortable leather couch to enjoy movies on the giant TV by the beautiful fire. No one had to sit on the floor, or pull in a chair from the other room. This house was meant for friends and family to be together and enjoy they're time there. the layout was so open, it was wonderful. The kitchen had everything we needed to make our big family meals, and you didn't feel left out of what was going on in the rest of the house because of the wonderful open floor plan. And to the one star comment about no internet, we had perfectly working Internet (some people had to do some work over the weekend on their computers) and the owner called us around the time we checked in to make sure everything was working ok and if we had any questions about the house or how things worked and was very gracious and helpful. I would absolutely stay here again. There's just something about this place that just makes you melt into a couch infront of the fire and chat the night away with a glass of wine. It was truly wonderful.
We have never been so surprised when arriving at our home away from home. What we saw when we entered this "cabin", left all of us with our mouths wide open, at the same time looking for a phone to call the owner, Cheryl, to make sure we were in the right place. When we were choosing the perfect vacation rental to celebrate our 25th Wedding Anniversary, all we had to go on were the photos. Photos, that in our experience of renting private homes in the past, seem to taken of the home down the street. Those people that rent private homes know what I mean. You arrive expecting to see the home depicted in photos and what you find is, well something far less desirable.
The photos that are used to depict this cabin DO NOT even come close to capturing it's true beauty. We walked around for an hour taking in all of the wonders inside this cabin, with the only word being said...WOW. By the time we got to the outside decks, we were speechless.
The owner has went above and beyond to ensure that every detail of this cabin is perfect. Every door has a hand carved design, the antique light fixtures actually still use gas instead of light bulbs, the marble work in each bathroom is 5 star. I could go on and on about this cabin, which by the way, is like a page out of Better Homes and Gardens, instead of a cabin.
Do yourself a favor and experience this home. There is no way you will be disappointed. Cheryl, the Owner, was the perfect hostess, even though we never meant her. By making her home so warm and inviting, we have no doubt she must be a grand lady and we lifted our glasses to her several times as we soaked in the hot tub.
We are presently making plans to return to the Tahoe area, for the Shakespeare Festival and we will not even consider staying anywhere else except this little cabin in the woods.
Thank you Cheryl for creating a home away from home, that far exceeds any we have stayed in. Your place is truly head and shoulders above the rest.
Everything you could ever want or need in one localized area. Summer offers the beauty of Lake Tahoe, while winter gives you the perfect snow. Of course, the excitement of the Casinos is available year round. Whether you are coming for the exciting nightlife, the snow sports, the water sports or just want to get away from it all, just come.
