Seabrook Island is a private gated community located 23 miles from historic Charleston, SC. With ancient live oaks, towering palms, and abundant wildlife, the island is a beautiful retreat for vacationing. The beach is wide, clean, and three miles long. Dolphin play in the waters just off-shore. Deer are plentiful on the island and are frequently spotted while walking or driving around.

The lack of commercial development and hotels keeps the island quiet and pristine. Still, there is plenty to do. The Seabrook Island Club facilities feature a beautiful beach club with two swimming pools, an arcade and an ocean side bar and restaurant (seasonally, as it is outdoors). The golf club is located within the Island House, a beautifully appointed facility across the street from the beach club with many terraced seating areas, a lounge, restaurant, and pro shop. World class tennis facilities with clay courts and its own pro shop draw many avid players and can be used for a nominal hourly rate. Unique to Seabrook is a large equestrian facility where you can book riding lessons, trails rides or beach rides, or simply stop by to feed and visit the horses. During the summer numerous organized activities are offered, and live entertainment occurs several nights of the week. AMENITY CARDS FOR ACCESS TO THE CLUB ARE PROVIDED AT NO ADDITIONAL COST, and are required in order to enjoy the previously mentioned facilities.

Just off the island you will find numerous restaurants ranging from pizza and burgers to fine dining. At Freshfields Village, located just outside the Seabrook Island gate, is a full-service grocery store, many specialty shops, coffee shops, beach/surf shops, and a pharmacy. Also nearby are wonderful produce stands with locally grown vegetables and freshly caught seafood, and Bohicket Marina with boat rentals and tours, restaurants and shops.

No trip to Seabrook would be complete without a day of sight-seeing in Charleston. This historic city boasts beautiful antebellum homes, wonderful dining, numerous sightseeing tours, antique shops, and golf courses. We have assembled a guidebook with information about area attractions, including driving directions. You might wish to peruse the book while relaxing on the porch with a refreshing drink. Of course, if you prefer to plan your visit prior to arrival, many websites are available to assist you including TripAdvisor,, and more.

About Terri Edmiston

While we call Charlotte, NC home, we are truly a beach-loving family who enjoys the beach year-round. Our children were nine and eleven years old when we found our Seabrook Island home. The memories we've made during our many long weekend and week-long visits to the island are priceless. We hope you enjoy the island and its surrounding community as much as we do!

Terri Edmiston purchased this house in 2006

Why Terri Edmiston chose Seabrook Island

For years we vacationed at beaches, enjoying rentals in many locations along the east coast. We casually looked for a place to call our own, but didn't find an area that we loved enough to want to visit over and over again. That changed with our first visit to Seabrook. So many things about the island appealed to us: the lack of commercial development, the abundance of nature, the cleanliness of the beaches, the obvious pride of ownership from those living on the island, and the club facilities. We can do as little or as much as we wish during our stays at Seabrook. We love it so much, we plan to retire on Seabrook.

What makes this house unique

Because Seabrook is a private, gated island with little traffic or commercial development, we found it possible to give the children more freedom to bike and enjoy their friends without being with them at all times. When they were younger we loved to go 'deer hunting Seabrook style', which means that we put down the seats in the SUV, left the back open, and drove slowly along the roads at dusk to see how many deer we could spot. We've also counted bobcats and fox during our drives. We love to start the day with a long walk to the point at North Beach to watch the dolphin swim and look for shells. The kids still love to walk down to the beach club for a frozen drink or burger. During any week-long stay we enjoy a beach bonfire, watch the sunset, and share hotdogs and s'mores. These are experiences we will always cherish, and they aren't available at just any beach!

Guestbook comments from the owner

We are dreading our departure tomorrow morning! We have had an incredible week here at Seabrook in your beautiful home! You have truly thought of everything to make your guests feel at home. We have enjoyed the beaches loved our many dolphin sightings. Thank you for a special week filled with many wonderful memories. We hope to come back again!

We loved our stay at this house. It was clean, the furnishings were lovely. Nothing was out of place. The house had everything we needed! The 2. Bedrooms were brigh, colorful and fun for the kids and the bedding was fresh and clean. Terri always replied quickly to any questions I had and provided so much information on the surrounding area that was helpful for our stay. The screened in porch was very enjoyable. The area downstairs with the hammocks and ping pong table was loved by the kids, such a fun space! We enjoyed the provided bikes, the kids enjoyed bike rides daily around the house and we frequently rode them to the beach and pool area which is an easy 5 minute ride away. Also, very convenient having the use of beach toys and chairs so we did not have to lug our own down! Terri was also kind enough to mail an item my 8 year old son had left behind and was so distraught over (20 minutes of crying on the ride home after realizing it was left and we were not turning around and driving the 8 hours back to Seabrook to retrieve it!).

A Wonderful Seabrook Vacation

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I along with our children and their families thoroughly enjoyed our stay at your Villa and Seabrook Island. Your home is lovely and it served our needs quite well and was in a great location on the island. I have to add that Seabrook is all you said it would be and indeed one of the most beautiful places we've vacationed. Two years ago we spent the same type vacation at Harbor Island with our family, but have to say that this vacation when it comes to scenery of the island to the wildlife and the beaches along with other amenities was far better. Seabrook Island Rd. is one of the prettiest roads in South Carolina if not the prettiest and the Seabrook Island

Club pools and beach area along with the Pelican's Nest restaurant couldn't be beat and were an easy trip by car or bike from your villa.

The hamburger at The Pelican's Nest is the best I think I've ever

eaten.....and I've eaten quite a few over the years. I thank you so much for sharing your home with us for what was a truly nice vacation for our family. I also appreciate the extra info. concerning the island you made available along with the bicycles provided for your guests and want you to know that we will definitely keep your home in mind

for any future trips to Seabrook Island.

Wonderful Owner

  • 5 of 5

We unfortunately did not get to stay at the lovely Summerwind Cottage due to Hurricane Irma, but Terri went above and beyond for us. Before the hurricane interrupted our plans, she was responsive and helpful in making arrangements. After it became clear that the weather was going to mean we couldn't come down for the planned weekend, she was gracious and speedy in helping us figure out the next steps, whether that was a refund or moving the trip to a different weekend. When we're next able to escape to South Carolina, we will be staying at Summerwind Cottage for sure!

Great place!

We had a wonderful experience. Well-equipped kitchen, nice furnishings, cozy beds...could not ask for anything more! The kids enjoyed the ping-pong table and outside seating, and the adults enjoyed the screened porch in the evenings. Will definitely book again!
