Guestbook comments from the owner

Came back this year and brought friends and our kayaks. Hiked and paddled on sunny fall days. Thanks for the hospitality.

Great place great location

  • 5 of 5

We had a great stay at the Cottage. We love the location which is only a mile away from Jordan pound and it was very quiet at night. Nick was a gracious host. He lives in the house behind the cottage so he is always available when you need him. Nick was absolutely a pleasure to deal with. He is very prompt in sending the contract and returning the deposit. Keep in mind mails going in and out of MDI can be slow (It took 3-4 days to and from NYC).

You can tell the place was very well care for. The kitchen was very clean and well stock with all the essential items (including sugars and flour) we needed to prepare our meals.

There were no cell (Verizon and AT&T) receptions at the cottage. But it's equipped with high speed internet (~ 20 Mps) and a landline.

We found the large binder with all the information (restaurant menus, various activities) very useful. Nick also provided a list of recommended restaurants in the area. There are also various maps and book at the cottage. I personally enjoyed reading the book about the history about the carriage roads.

As with many people who stayed in this cottage in the past I will certainly return when I visit Acadia NP again.

Ideal Location for Exploring Acadia

  • 5 of 5

Hidden Place offers a clean, comfortable, and well-equipped base from which to explore MDI. Nick provides everything needed for planning your explorations - maps, guide books, local publications, and for down-time - a fully equipped kitchen, including many staples and consumables, TV/DVD/stereo/internet, and washer/dryer. He's also available if you need anything and to provide helpful recommendations regarding local restaurants. The location offers easy access to the park via car, bike or on foot as well as distance from the congestion of Bar Harbor, and the tour bus stops. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and hope to return.

Perfect location for week in Acadia

  • 5 of 5

Acadia National Park can be difficult to navigate staying on the North side near Bar Harbor. Hidden Place is on the south side of the park on an offshoot of the west side of the Park Loop Road that goes both directions inside the park. It is back off the road in a quiet location with close-up parking, and the very nice owner next door should you need assistance. It is convenient to the less crowded side of Bar Harbor as well as Southwest Harbor--both had good restaurants and activities. The kitchen is well-equipped, the bed is comfy, linens are provided, and there is also a laundry facility we did not use. We really appreciated the binder of area information on the kitchen table, and the hiking information in the living room including the recommended Map Adventures Map of Acadia and Diane Abrell's Pocket Guide to the Carriage Roads. We took these with us each day in the park. The house has two bedrooms--one with a queen bed, and another we did not use with a double and twin, and adequate dresser and closet storage. Part of the closet in the master has the continuous flow water heater so hot water is always available. The kitchen and living room are one long room with good lighting and nice TV. Photos are accurate, and the place is clean and well-loved. The limiting factor would be how comfortable your group would be sharing one bath. For the two of us, it was perfect!

Best place to stay in Acadia for 2-4 people

  • 5 of 5

Nick's place is as it is in the picture. It has lots of natural light, and its size and cleanliness immediately make you feel welcome and on vacation. The kitchen is well equipped and the beds are comfortable. We liked the comfortable sofa, love seat, and rocking chair. The house is quiet, and you are right in the heart of Acadia. I also liked that toilet paper, garbage bags, dishwasher detergent and things like that were provided. Also, the WIFI was really good which for us has become a necessity. Our main outdoor activity was hiking and wave watching. I highly recommend this vacation place. We loved our time there.
