About Carolyn Walker
I'm originally from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, graduated from Middle TN State University and was a commercial lender for a bank for ten years. I married my husband Van and moved to Dallas, Texas in 1989. Van is a native Texan, born in Dallas. He spent some of his formative years in Oklahoma and thus is a die-hard Sooner fan! He attended Midwestern University before enlisting in the Navy in 1969. We've enjoyed being self-employed all our married life which has given us great flexibility and allowed us to move to NC before fully retiring. We both enjoy gardening, movies, playing with our beloved pets, spending time with our three fabulous children, watching Sooner football and hosting happy hour with friends on our deck! We love sushi, walking around the lake and visiting historical places. I love soul music, Van's a Beatles fan, and we both love meeting new people so VRBO is a natural for us!

Why Carolyn Walker chose Lake Junaluska
The Mountains are calling, and I must go! We lived in Dallas until all our children were in college and semi-independent! We'll always love Texas, but nice cool summers and the beauty of the western North Carolina mountains drew us here! Waynesville is quaint and easily won our hearts. The natural beauty and tranquility of Lake Junaluska is truly paradise!
What makes this Apartment unique
We house-shopped in several towns in the Asheville area. One look at this house was all it took...we knew we were HOME! Every room in the entire house has an amazing view of Lake Junaluska and the mountains. Then there's our deck views...WOW. Its truly an inspiring place to live. If you come stay with us, you'll understand...and you just might not ever want to leave!

Perfect get away
We stayed here for a week to visit with old friends in the area and it was perfect. The apartment is clean, well stocked, quiet, and Van and Carol are the perfect hosts - quick to respond to any requests, friendly and caring. The deck outside our unit was great anytime of the day or evening - the view of the lake was fantastic ( especially the sunrises). There was little traffic on the road to the apartment, so we were able to walk our dog easily and safely. Although we had read one review of renovations to the main house were a problem - we found that the work was not an issue - the workers were quiet, the area was contained and did not interfere with parking or our view. We hope to return every year !
Thank you Diane! We so enjoyed meeting and visiting with you and Fred. You two were ideal guests (and sweet little Molly too!) We’re thrilled to know you plan to come back!
As advertised, this is an excellent location and Carolyn offered great communication throughout. Highly recommend!
Alex was a pleasure to host! He was quiet, neat and tidy! We barely even knew he was here! We'd welcome him back any time!
Without any warning, the owners chose to conduct a major construction project on the floor above us. The noise was so great that we could not converse. On the second day of this they only stopped after we complained. They apologized and said that they did not think we were going to use the apartment during the day. The hike to the lake was very strenuous with many ups and downs. Would not stay here again.
I’m disappointed that this guest left with such a bad taste in their mouth after their stay with us. It’s true, we do currently have some remodeling going on in our living quarters. However, it has had no effect on our guests until now (and I believe our other reviews reflect that). I think it’s important to mention that this guest arrived 2 1/2 hours before our allowed check-in time (unannounced). There was construction noise when they arrived, but all work ended at 3:30 and our check-in time is 4:00. They were told when they arrived that we'd allow access to the apartment early, but that we had work going on that was noisy. They chose to go ahead and check-in early. On their second day, they left the apartment. While they were gone, work resumed. When they returned, they were unhappy that any work was still going on, and complained. We stopped all work when we realized they had come back to the apartment. We apologized and explained that most of our guests are "out and about during the day" which typically allows us to continue work during the day. I assured them that there would be no further disturbances (and there weren’t). To clarify for anyone who reads this, while this remodeling project has been going on, all work has been done M-F between the hours of 10-4. Any noisy work that might disturb our guests is done when we have no guests or our guests are out. As for the remark "the hike to the lake was very strenuous with many ups and downs", I'm not quite sure how to respond to that. We live in the mountains of western North Carolina where there is very little flat land. This guest said they've visited Lake Junaluska before, so they were aware of the setting. Also, if you look at the map on our listing and are at all familiar with Lake Junaluska, it’s clear that we're at the top of the hills surrounding the lake. Many of our guests walk to the lake, but some do drive down, park and then walk around the lake. I'm hopeful that this response gives a more complete picture of what transpired during this guest’s visit. Our goal is always to have happy guests!
Our 30th Anniversary at LoneStar!
This past weekend my husband and I booked LoneStar at Lake Junaluska, NC. It was our anniversary weekend, and we just wanted a low-key, relaxing weekend. This place was perfect!
LoneStar is located in the beautiful mountains of North Carolina with a close proximity to Maggie Valley, Waynesville, and Asheville. The accommodations were superb! The brilliant decorations of our apartment provided the perfect atmosphere for our visit. Our hosts, not only had flowers and a personal anniversary card for us, but they had prepared a very informative notebook with restaurant suggestions (with menus), activity suggestions, and maps of the area. They were also available to suggest their favorites and even drove us to dinner one night for some delicious barbeque made by a real Texan.
I can’t say enough about Carolyn and Van! They sat on the deck with us, shared wine with us, and became wonderful friends. We shared stories about our jobs, our pets, and our children. Their hospitality went above and beyond all expectations. We definitely will be keeping in touch with them and look forward to visiting again.
Even though during our weekend the weather was not very cooperative, my husband and I enjoyed the morning mist over the picturesque lake. We even went walking by the lake in the rain and fed the ducks and the swans.
If you are looking to get away from the chaos that seems to creep into our lives, please book the LoneStar at Lake Junaluska. I know you will leave with plans to return. We did!
Carolyn and Van, we look forward to seeing you real soon!!!
Wow Barbara and Fred! What an overwhelming review! Its great to know that you guys loved Lone Star so much! You were such fun to host! Often times guests prefer complete privacy which we're happy to provide, but its a treat to have guests who like to socialize! Thank you for staying with us, and we look forward to another visit soon!
What a great place... the view of the lake was amazing! This was a short trip and we spent most of it looking for a home in the area and visiting my sister (already lives here) so we didn't really use the kitchen but from what I could tell it was sufficient. Has everything you need but food. Sorry I didn't have the opportunity to meet the owners but my husband did and said they were very nice.
So glad you enjoyed your stay Juleigh! If you are back in the area before you move, we'd love to host you again!
Clean and OK but nothing special.
Since we mostly wanted a place to sleep and shower, this place was OK. However, I don’t think we’ll return.
