A darling perfect place to stay
We held a three day retreat at the Ram’s Head Inn for families coping with cancer and some of our counselors needed an additional place to stay. This was perfect! The place is very spacious and the owner created a fun, relaxing and homey environment. The grounds are calming and it feels secluded. We are so grateful to have had a lovely place to stay and recharge.
A Good Value
For three bedrooms, this house is a good value. Once the cottage in the back is renovated, this would be a good property for a couple of familiies, or for familiies with teenagers looking for reasonable lodging within quick driving distance of the water and ferries to the north or south forks of Long Island. The ferry fees are also reasonable and the schedule is convenient, but there are also markets and restaurants within close driving distance on the island.
I have been using Homeaway since its start, and am sorry for the owners that the fees are now so high, but this is not the owner's fault. At least with this property, the deposit was reasonable.
Weekend on Sbelter Island
House was just as pictured. Owners were very approachable and attentive. Small issue was addressed immediately while we were out. A very reasonable alternative to pricey hotels. Take a soak in the tub, it's wonderful.
Beautiful and relaxing...
Wonderful property and location! Couldn’t ask for anything more - expect for a few extra weeks in this beautiful hideaway ;) Can’t wait to comeback next year! Great location, comfortable and cozy bedrooms with full amenities. The perfect spot to relax and unwind :) Plus the owner is super nice and accommodating!
Convenient and comfortable stay!
My family had a lovely time on Shelter Island. The house was very comfortable and central to everything.
Comfortable house in a convenient location
Spacious comfortable house with all the mod cons and a big yard. The rooms were clean and private and the beds were great for sleeping. We very much enjoyed sipping our coffee in the mornings on the front porch and grilling in the back yard for dinner. And the big screen in the living room made movie time a blast. The central location made it easy to get around the Island by car or bike or even on foot. We love Shelter and go every year. This was one of our best houses. The only minor issue was that one of the bikes has a flat. But overall the house offered a wonderful place to stay at good value.
There's lots to do on Shelter Island- hike the nature trails at the Mashomack Preserve, take a kayak tour with Shelter Island Kayaks, or just spend the day at one of the island's beautiful beaches. Cool off with some ice cream at The Tuck Shop or Whale's Tale, which also has miniature golf.
If you want to cozy up at home, find everything you need at the nearby supermarket, seasonal farmers' market, or Sep's Farm Shelter Island Farm Stand (next to Bob's Fish Market where you can get fresh seafood to grill). Manika's Liquor Store will help you pick out a great wine to pair with whatever you cook. If you prefer dining out, The Islander, Piesano's Pizza, Bob's Fish Market, Maria's Kitchen, and the Dory are popular casual restaurants nearby. Star's Cafe is great for breakfasts and lunch. Shelter Island Craft Brewery has a nice variety of locally-made beer. Delicious fine dining options include Vine Street Cafe and the newly-opened Isola.
Pick up some souvenirs of your visit at Bliss's Department Store or the Shelter Island Pharmacy, where the friendly people there will help you find whatever you might need.
