Beautiful views, small town, lovely home
We absolutely loved the house, the moment we walked in we could see that home has been kept in amazing condition. The photos just do not do justice to show how nice the place is. We enjoyed all the amazing views from every window in the house and spent a long gazing out and soaking up the beauty. The hot tub on the deck was a great place to watch the sunsets and have a cocktail. The neighbor Brent was so nice and even gave us some of his homemade smoked salmon and some ideas for fun things to do in the area. I would visit again if I had the opportunity!
Holiday Start off
We had a wonderful time at Casa Canon! The amenities, view, location were just what we needed! Gayle and Tom were wonderful host as well. Thank you so much! WE look forward to the next time!
Warm lights, beautiful artwork, fully functional kitchen even if it's tiny - it has all you need. So nice to wake up with a cup of hot coffee in hand and meander out to the deck for morning fog or sunshine and soak in that wonderful smell of the forest. Just gorgeous in all types of weather. Super warm pellet stove once that bad boy gets going. As others have said, pictures don't do this place justice. We loved it!
Mendocino hideaway gem
The photos don't completely do this property justice. Per the other reviews, the place is sparklingly clean. It would be great for one couple's getaway, or two. We had two couples and found each bedroom to feel like a Master, even though one does not have an en-suite, don't let that sway you as it's directly across the hall and very large and private.
Pay close attention to the host's directions of how to get to the property as once you get to those Mendo back roads, things get a little less clear. Once at the property you will not want to leave! The deck is so private with its hot tub and outdoor dining area. Surrounded by giant trees, somehow a miracle that there is an ocean view where you can watch the sunset and the fog roll in and out. One thing I loved about this property is that it is perched just high enough on the hill that the fog didn't seem to quite touch us, so it stayed relatively sunny the whole time, even though the coastline was thick in fog. Lastly, even though we brought our own knives and some of our other own cookware (you never know with rentals!), we were so surprised to find it was a very well-stocked kitchen, much better than other rentals in my experience. If you like to cook, you'll find all the basics here. I even baked a cake :)
I dream of going back to Casa Canon and hope you all go there to enjoy the mystical Mendocino coast!
Yes it is a beautiful "tree-house"! Thank you for your lovely words.
Beautiful Location and home.
Very clean, wonderful experience.
Thanks so much, we're glad you enjoyed your stay!
Peaceful and private
Casa Cañon is just what we were looking for - peaceful, private, and in an amazing location in the forest with a view of the ocean. We loved the windows and skylights in the Master Bedroom - the star-filled night sky as well as the expansive view of the Pacific Ocean to wake up to. Blessed with clear skies most of the week! No window coverings - didn't bother us one bit! The house was spotless, hot tub well-maintained and hot, decor was calming. Casa Canon has been a popular place for honeymooners going back the early 1980s (many guest books with fun-to-read entries)!
About 15 min. from Point Arena to the South and Elk to the North, 35 min. from Gualala, 40 min. to Mendocino and just under an hour to the Anderson Valley (Philo, Boonville) for wine tasting. Recommend: Roederer, Husch, Navarro and Pennyroyal Farm (wine/cheese producers). We were told that The Bewildered Pig is great, but it's only open for dinner (we didn't go). Disco Ranch Wine Bar and Deli was also recommended, but it was closed onTuesday.
Other recommendations: Check Pt. Arena Theater for events/movies. We caught the monthly jazz series performance, with Vanessa Collier and band - $20 for 3 hours of internationally acclaimed jazz/R&B/funk and dancing! Plus people watching - priceless! :)
Pt Arena culinary - Franny's Cup & Saucer for delicious bakery items, the coffee roaster next door, Bird Cafe & Supper Club (we couldn't get in, so make sure to reserve).
Groceries - Manchester, Pt. Arena and Elk have stores with most everything you need. However, we prefered the larger selection, meat/fish counter, outside barbecue etc. of Gualala's Surf Market. The Saturday morning farmers'/craft market also worth a visit.
We dined at Wild Fish in Little River (just 10 minutes before Mendocino) and it was fantastic!!
Mendocino's July 4th parade and party (dancing) in the streets was a blast. We didn't stay for the fireworks.
In Mendocino don't miss the Gallery Bookshop for an amazing selection of books and stationary (and their cat), also the many art galleries, craft/jewelry shops, Corners of the Mouth natural food store/cooperative, etc. Just wander and enjoy the beautiful homes and gardens! We ate a light lunch on the top balcony of Flow, beautiful view to the sea. Amazing clam/fish chowder.
Pt. Arena and Cabrillo Lighthouses are worth a visit, of course nearby Irish Beach for long walks.
WOW! I can tell you enjoyed to the fullest, thanks for all the recommendations, many we have not been to!! So glad you were able to really feel the specialness of our location.
Wine-tasting in pristine Anderson Valley (20 plus wineries to choose from with award-winning Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Zinfandel varietals). Historic Point Arena Lighthouse just five miles south. Deep-sea fishing trips available at nearby Fort Bragg
