Grandma's Spectacular Beach Cottage

Perched on a bluff at the edge of the Pacific Ocean, Grandma’s Beach Cottage offers unobstructed white water views that cannot be improved upon. She sure knew how to pick em’ - this house could not be better placed! It is one of only three homes located inside the private gated entrance to Irish Beach’s exclusive beach access and looks right down the beach to the western most point of the lower 48 – the Point Arena Lighthouse. Grandma was very unpretentious and so is her house; she built the first home in Irish Beach with 3 bedrooms, 1 full bathroom, constructed of solid core redwood (no paneling here!) with lots of windows to soak up the view and a fully equipped kitchen. Grandma didn’t want us kids sitting around a TV when there was exploring to be done outside, nor was she going to be inside doing laundry. You will not find a TV or laundry facility in this house! She didn’t really know how to use a computer, but yes our house is equipped with wifi. I think Grandma must have been a romantic, because her house sure puts you in the mood. With a glass of wine in front of the fire and the constant sound of the crashing waves, honey by my side, well... I just can’t think of anything better! If you love long walks on the beach, and natures wondrous scenery I think you too will love Grandma’s Beach Cottage.

This cozy cottage has spectacular views of the ocean and Irish Beach which is just a short walk down the hill. It was a comfortable place to relax and unwind from the world. Great fun watching the birds soar up and down the coast right outside the windows, including a bald eagle! We will be back.

Fantastic view to Point Arena down Manchester Breach. We saw a fox, osprey, bald eagle, sea lions, and a couple of whale pods. EZ access to Irish Beach. Great house and location. Host instructions were easy and provided timely. Thanks!

Sie, I am so happy that you had an excellent time with your family at Grandma's Beach Cottage. I never tire of that view, it is constantly changing. The tides bring in treasures & logs for fort building, then wash them out to start all over again the next day. Passing whale spouts, sea birds cruising by, seals & sea lions bobbing in the waves, fishing boats that dot the seas at night, the fog rolls in and out, the tide pools at low tide and those spectacular sunsets. It is truly nature at her finest!

Grandma’s Cottage was exactly what we needed. It was charming, peaceful and the view was extraordinary. The wildlife we saw from the living room windows was varied and included deer, foxes, and whales. The kitchen was well outfitted and the internet connection was reliable. The master bed (we only used one) was comfortable and warm and the fireplace easily warmed the cottage. The parking area is limited and steep. It would be difficult for a big vehicle. That said I would stay again in a heartbeat.

This is one of my best vacations ever. It was lovely and totally relaxing. We've been on many cruises and beach trips. This surpassed all of them. We watched a whale pass by, seals on the beach and playing in the waves, and deer in the yard. This was perfect for us.

this is our 5 time at Grandma's cottage. It's so relaxing and homey. We love the view and the beach access. The kitchen is always stocked well with everything we need. We played games, listened to music and just chilled out. We went to Mendocino town twice. Loved Good Friend's café. Coffee and baked goods were wonderful. Loved the shops. On Friday we went to Fort Bragg and ate at the Harborview Bistro. The food was as great as the service. We then took the Shunk train to Glen Blair Bar. That was such a treat. We love this cottage and all that it has to offer.

Wonderful stay on the ocean

Just about perfect in every way - proximity to the beach( 5 minute walk down steep hill but you can drive if you want), breathtaking views, and very comfortable accommodations.

Cliffside View of Ocean

Spectacular location. Hear the ocean waves. Great views from the windows and porch. Driveway is a slight challenge - would not attempt in a long wheelbase vehicle.

Yes, it is hard to beat the superior location and views from Grandma's Beach Cottage. And yes, the driveway is steep and can be a bit challenging, as is the road down to and up from the beach. My family has been driving those roads since the 1960's before power steering and cars were a bit more clunky so perhaps we are just a little more used to maneuvering them. Agreed though, a larger wheel base is not ideal for the driveway, but not impossible.

incredible view. 2nd stay at this property.

Lovely cottage with incredible views of the ocean. Great time for relaxation and beachwalks. Nightly views of deer. We even saw a bobcat!
