About John McLellan

We purchased the land in the mid 70's and decided to build in 1998 and use it for vacationing and possible retirement. It was a labor of love and now we are enjoying it as much as we can.

John McLellan purchased this house in 1998

Why John McLellan chose Walker-In-the-Hills

Amazing Views, Quiet and peaceful surroundings

  • 5 of 5

What an absolutely beautiful home you have! This was our first VRBO and if it had to be our last we would be satisfied! The views, climate and home or all amazing! We could tell this property is very well cared for by yourselves and by your client visitors. It gave us the perfect example of what mountain living would be like when we retire to the Western North Carolina Mountains someday. Thank you guys for the excellent communication before and during our stay. It really made any questions we had trouble free on our week visit. We look forward to renting from you again! The description of the property and the photographs are completely accurate. I have to be honest, as a first-time VRBO tenant I was a little bit nervous about the deposit. We took good care of the property and left it very clean and we're refunded our entire security deposit which we are thankful for. If anyone else has any apprehension about renting this property there is no need for concern. It is a beautifully maintained property on a wonderfully paved Road in a very quiet neighborhood and the views are endless and unobstructed. It was nice seeing some Wildlife travel through the yard as well while we drank our morning coffee on the enormous back patio. The permanent gas grill Outdoors was well used during our stay. The temperatures even in July or so perfect for grilling outdoors and eating on the patio. We did not want to go inside at all but when we had to it was extremely comfortable, clean and quiet.

Beautiful all-around - Hummingbird Heights

  • 5 of 5

This is a perfect home for vacation! Amazing view from every room, beautiful deck to relax on and enjoy nature and the scenery, lovely landscaping, clean and well kept, all amenities you could possibly need, and then some! It's also close enough to local shops and restaurants but private enough to enjoy the peace and quiet. I'd highly recommend it to anyone and would look forward to staying there again.

Peaceful Haven

  • 5 of 5

We are repeat renters because Hummingbird Heights has everything that we expect in a perfect rental. It is very private and quiet, it has an outstanding view, the house and kitchen have everything that you need or want, and it is clean and comfortable. We also like its location – not in town but close enough to get to downtown Waynesville to eat a meal and visit the quaint stores in 10 minutes. Also, the owners go out of their way to meet special needs. I use a manual wheelchair and I when I asked if there was a handheld showerhead and a shower bench in the master bathroom, John purchased both making my visit to his home more accommodating.

Tranquil and Comfortable Home in the Smoky Mountains

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking to find the right place to relax by a warm fireplace and enjoy the views of the apple orchards in the valley below and the surrounding Smoky Mountains then look no further than Hummingbird Heights. We really enjoyed the convenience of jumping on the Blue Ridge Parkway, picking apples locally in Barber Orchard, shopping at the antique malls or visiting Biltmore Estates. The morning sunrise or evening full moon rising over the mountains provided the right ambiance to leave your worries behind and enjoy a good book or movie. The Smoky Mountains have been our favorite fall vacation get=away our entire life and Hummingbird Heights gave us everything we look for. It has the views, accessibility, convenience and comforts of a private home which the McClellan’s share with their guests. This is one vacation home where you won’t be disappointed and what you read in the write-up is exactly what you will experience.

Additional information about rental rates

Cleaning fee (minimum) $100
Refundable damage deposit $500
Hot Tub /wk (optional) $100 + Tax

PAYMENTS: The full amount of the rental, plus the security/damage deposit is due upon booking. The renter is encouraged to purchase travel insurance to mitigate any unforeseen circumstances that may cause a last-minute cancellation.

CLEANING POLICY: Our cleaning fee is based on the actual charge from the cleaning service. This is done to encourage renters to leave the house as clean as possible and to have the charge reflect the actual work required. The minimum cleaning fee of $100 is for only two guests, when the downstairs bedrooms and bath are not used. If the downstairs is used, there will always be an additional charge over the $100 minimum; typically it is an additional $50-$100. Any additional charge not paid up-front will be deducted from the deposit refund.

OUTDOOR SPA: The outdoor spa is not operational from December through April, due to potential extreme weather conditions and the possibility of freezing. We learned that lesson the hard way, to the tune of over $3,000!

The owner's rental agreement will override any other written or implied terms.
