Please note that for bookings longer than one week, a 50% deposit is required. The remaining balance, including all extra charges, the security deposit, taxes and fees is required one month prior to arrival. If a booking is made within the 45 days prior to arrival, the entire amount, including the deposit is due.

CANCELLATION POLICY - If a cancellation occurs during the time the owner has received the deposit, but prior to receiving the rental payment, the deposit will be forfeited, unless a new booking is secured and a successful rental is obtained. If a cancellation occurs after the owner has received the deposit and the rental payment, the entire rental amount is forfeited, unless a new booking is secured and a successful rental is obtained; however, the deposit will be refunded regardless.

The renter is encouraged to avail themselves of the various types of insurance that are offered through VRBO. See the section titled “Get protected now”.

About John McLellan

We purchased the land in the mid 70's and decided to build in 1998 and use it for vacationing and possible retirement. It was a labor of love and now we are enjoying it as much as we can.

Tranquil and Comfortable Home in the Smoky Mountains

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking to find the right place to relax by a warm fireplace and enjoy the views of the apple orchards in the valley below and the surrounding Smoky Mountains then look no further than Hummingbird Heights. We really enjoyed the convenience of jumping on the Blue Ridge Parkway, picking apples locally in Barber Orchard, shopping at the antique malls or visiting Biltmore Estates. The morning sunrise or evening full moon rising over the mountains provided the right ambiance to leave your worries behind and enjoy a good book or movie. The Smoky Mountains have been our favorite fall vacation get=away our entire life and Hummingbird Heights gave us everything we look for. It has the views, accessibility, convenience and comforts of a private home which the McClellan’s share with their guests. This is one vacation home where you won’t be disappointed and what you read in the write-up is exactly what you will experience.

Mind blowing views from every window...!

  • 5 of 5

This is the most incredible place I have ever stayed at...! My family of 4 arrived late at night and had no idea of the views we would behold with the morning dawn. It appears that no expense was spared in building this , secluded, spacious, clean and superbly equipped get-a-way mansion, nestled into the side of one of North Carolina's spectacular mountains. The owner was helpful and so nice, and he did not oversell us on any aspect of this lovely "cabin," if we dare to refer to it as only that.

We highly recommend it and we will be back...!

Mountain sunrise

  • 5 of 5

I can't say enough about this place. all the comforts of home, yet quiet, peaceful tranquility. The house is would be a nice vacation even without the view, but seriously who doesn't go to the mountains to see the views. It's 24/7 views here, no matter which room your in. And very convenient to town. Best value for what you get of anywhere I've stayed.

Hummingbird Heights is a magnificent home which offers every amenity you could want, including a gourmet kitchen stocked with spices and cookbooks, immaculate hardwood floors, large fireplace and huge windows which provide amazing mountain views from every room, lending library and so much more. From the minute you drive up and see the beautiful stonework and gorgeous flowers and landscaping, you know this is not your typical rental. The master bath is very spacious and has heated marble flooring, Jacuzzi tub, separate shower, and double vanity sinks. We enjoyed dining inside as well as on the deck, and watching the constant array of hummingbirds darting back and forth to the feeder.

We love that Hummingbird Heights is easy to get to, yet you have complete privacy. It’s only minutes to get to the charming town of Waynesville which has a wonderful selection of restaurants, art galleries, and interesting stores like the Chocolate Bear for delectable handmade chocolates and Smoky Mountain Dog Bakery for unique dog treats. There are countless day trips you can take. Our favorites were picnicking next to majestic waterfalls in Cashiers, taking the Smoky Mountain train through spectacular scenery, touring the palatial Biltmore Estate and Winery; and driving on the Blue Ridge Parkway to enjoy the incredible mountain views and fresh trout at the Pisgah Inn.

Hummingbird Heights is a hidden gem. We can’t wait to come back. Thanks, John, for your wonderful hospitality!

Fabulous mountain vacation home

  • 5 of 5

We’ve been vacationing at Hummingbird Heights for several years now. We keep coming back to this lovely property for so many reasons. The well-constructed home is beautifully appointed and has fantastic views of the Smoky Mountains from every room. It comes stocked with anything you may need and is well maintained and scrupulously clean. Paved access is easy and convenient at only 1.5 miles from the main road. The neighborhood is secluded and quiet with very little traffic. Though there is plenty to do in the surrounding area, we often find ourselves just relaxing in place, reading, bird-watching, sipping a cool drink while soaking in the hot tub, or recently watching the amazing total eclipse from the huge deck overlooking countless mountain ranges! The owner John is quick to respond and is readily available. We’re looking forward to returning in October!
