The Light Lake House located in the North Woods

Snuggled on the shore of Caribou lake, this home is surrounded by water on two sides with over 500 ft. of lakeshore. The house combines stunning Scandinavian design with cozy touches to make you feel at home in the woods. The property features a detached sauna house, dock, canoe, kayak, deck, screen porch, and a long sweeping driveway. Located in Lutsen, MN- a short drive from the ski hill and 20 minutes from Grand Marais. The house has heated floors, vaulted ceilings, and sweeping window views from all sides.

This home has comfortable beds and three walk-in showers. It features natural stone, and North woods art from local artists, along with soaring hand-finished columns of cedar, fir, and pine that make the house feel like part of the forest. The floor to ceiling windows (over 75 in all) bring the outside in and showcase the natural beauty of the North Shore. We share the spot with a playful fox, a pair of loons, and other wonderful species of native wildlife. In the summer, the property is scattered with wildflowers and lupine as well as raspberries, blueberries, and thimble berries. We are located on a bend in the lake: paddle left to tour the quiet bay, cattails, and a beaver dam; right will take you out to the largest portions of Caribou lake. A perfect escape for a weekend away or a special occasion.

Absolutely spectacular property and such a wonderful experience. Ann and Cheryl are the warmest, most helpful and most responsive hosts we've ever encountered. The property is gorgeous and immaculately maintained, and perfect for a family or friends getaway trip to the North Shore. We enjoyed a day skiing at Lutsen and a day in Grand Marais, and spent the evenings cooking and hanging out. The sauna was so relaxing after a day of skiing; we actually enjoyed it every night. Would love to come back in the summertime and have a campfire down by the lake. Truly a fantastic place.

Peaceful, location on beautiful lake. House and location was as described. Hosts were extremely great and easy to communicate with. Canoes and Kayaks were located near dock and easy to launch and fun to paddle around the quiet lake. Caught a bass off the dock after watching a nice sunrise over the glass-like lake. Location is great for quick access to Lutsen resort, Grand Marais, and hiking all over. House provided all the needs, nice fireplace ar night.

Perfect spot

Beautiful, clean home. Excellent communication with host. Loved the Fika coffee beans. Absolutely stop at Fika coffee for a maple latte. Best coffee ever! We fished, hiked and enjoyed the beautiful lake. Super quiet and relaxing location.

Family Stay at Light Lake House

A quiet and serene stay was made wonderful by this unique house. Views of the outdoors, trees and lake from every room. Wonderfully restored/updated house that was fully equipped in the kitchen and bathrooms. House was immaculately clean. Great communication with our hosts about our stay. This house was easily the nicest VRBO we have stayed in and we hope to return.

Perfect home for a family get away!

Our family came to stay for a long weekend. We spent a couple days skiing together at Lutsen and this was a perfect place to stay. The home is beautiful, clean, cozy, and well appointed. The hosts are fabulous and gave us some great suggestions for what to do in the area. Highly suggest and can’t wait to go back!!

Beautiful home and beautiful property! Very private and relaxing. The sauna was wonderful and looking out on the lake was just the kind of vacation we needed. Owners were very easy to communicate with and provided lots of information before we arrived. We will be returning!

Perfect northern Minnesota vacation

Beyond Expectations

This property is STUNNING. I could have stayed a month! Cleanliness was *impeccable*, amenities were amazing, coziness was off the charts! I would go back any time of the year. Kitchen is exceptionally stocked and super fun to cook in with the island, fireplace is in the center of the room adding ambiance to the whole place. The house is suitable for two families with a small ktichenette in the lower level. We had a blast playing ping pong too! 10 out of 10 stars!

A Sling and A Ring

Lots of events took place this weekend while we stayed at the light lake house in Lutsen! My boyfriend and I got engaged, were able to celebrate as a family, share meals, plays games, etc! Come Saturday to go skiing, my fiancé ended up breaking his collarbone on a black diamond at Lutsen mountain. A trip for the books to say the least! We were happy with our stay at this property. It worked well for my family of eight plus four-legged friends. Highly recommend!

Loved the light filled cottage !

Our family could not have found a more lovely, peaceful lake home to spend time together . From the moment we walked in we were blown away by the beautiful, clean, sunny spaces filled with so much attention to detail. We had everything we needed and more to cook our meals together, sauna daily , play games, enjoy the trees and lake views , canoe , swim, sauna and simply be together in our favorite Lutsen area of the Northshore. It was so convenient to our visit to Grand Marais, local winery and bike path for runs. The screen porch was a hit with our grandchild and each night we read books out there together . Cheryl & Ann were amazing with communication and so kind . We so appreciate them sharing their home with us. We will be back! David, Lee Anne & family

Why they chose this property

Our parents bought this property the week before that were married in 1989. The sauna house is original, and the cabin is new construction after the old one finally fell apart:) We have made so many wonderful memories here: picking bouquets of lupine and black-eyed susans, swimming the lake, exploring the woods, and paddling around the bay over lily pads. We decided to rent our home in hopes of sharing with others the loves we've found here.
