This 1700 square foot log cabin home located 10 minutes from the Taconic State Parkway rests amongst the trees in southern Columbia County. The home has completed a full scale renovation in early 2008. Comfortable in all seasons a wood burning fireplace provides extra warmth in the winter and the surrounding trees provides a cool shade in the summer. Unwind in the comfortable living room with cathedral ceilings and skylights. Or stay in touch with the seemingly far away real world with the HD satellite tv and wireless internet connection. When it’s time to call it a night a loft contains a queen and two twin size beds and the master bedroom contains a queen bed. A shower is found in each of the two bathrooms while master bath also contains a whirlpool tub.
While in the cabin relax to the sounds of your music being played through the speakers of whichever room you choose. Or if live music is what you are looking for, Tanglewood Music Center is within a 50 minute drive. The cabin also allows you to put your culinary skills to the test with a functionally designed kitchen and a gas bbq grill on the patio. However, if you would rather admire the culinary skills of others the world famous Culinary Institute of America is within 45 minutes as well as many other highly rated restaurants. Also in the area are hiking trails, biking trails, ski resorts, lakes, The Rhinebeck Aerodrome, hot air balloon rides, many shops and boutiques, museums, and several golf courses.

This review is long over due but it is important to share our most positive experience!
My Mom is 93 and cannot travel for more than a couple of hours so we choose Pop's Cabin for the weekend before Christmas. If you could imagine a cozy log cabin in your mind one that is beautifully decorated for Christmas then your close to Pop's Cabin except it's even better than the one in your mind.
Although, it has been a rented cabin for a few years it looks like they just finished it as it is clean and done so very nicely as the pictures try to show. In addition, to having every thing you need at the house there is Les the owner. Les is a retired engineer whose eye fails to miss even the smallest detail and although he is a perfectionist he is also so accommodating to his guest and makes you feel so comfortable and welcomed. He has the perfect personality for an "Inn Keeper" he is genuinely the type of person you would welcome into your home for a cup of coffee or a beer and we can understand the love behind the affectionate name of "Pop's Cabin".
We plan on renting again during the summer so we can take my Mom away for a few days. The first floor bedroom was perfect for her and especially a qwalk in shower.
My Mom and my wife as well as myself would give our whole hearted recommendation fopr Pop's Cabin just a perfect "10"!
Pop's Cabin was a perfect weekend getaway for our 50th birthdays. Les and Elaine were great hosts and very responsive. The cabin is a real cabin... just so warm and inviting. We had two couples staying three nights and the accomodations provide for the right amount of privacy and together time. The beds and linens are comfortable. The cabin was stocked with everything we needed. We cooked gourmet meals two of the nights and wanted for nothing in the kitchen. Plenty of wine glasses and beer steins and frozen beer mugs. The knives are sharp and several cutting boards. The dining room table accomodates waymore than we needed. Nice entertainment system including whole house surround system which we used for a dance party that no one should ever see! The front porch provided a huge stack of wood for the fireplace and two nice rockers to relax in the quiet. You can barely hear a road with traffic in the distance. A big pine in the front yard was laced in white lights that gave the place a special brightness that made you feel at home. Les recommended the Hillrock Distillery that was less than a mile away. Do the one hour tour for $20. The tour guide was 24 and far beyond his years in intellect and personal interaction. He gave us hope for the younger generation. What an amaizing young man! We shot pool at Mt. Washington House, an 1800s tavern taken over by the late owner's daughter, Kelly. Three pool tables and the best service! We dined at The Pond and had a great time partying with the owners, Larry and Linda (thank you for the fabulous birthday dinner and drinks). We hiked Bash Bish Falls at Taconic Mountain. Out with the bad... so you can take in more bad. If you are coming in through Millerton, stop at Balck Rabbit Bar & Grill for a bloody mary - have them make it with the cucumber vodka or the pepper vodka - both were excellent! We want to thank Les and Elaine for sharing their place with us! It was one of the best birthday excursions we have taken and there have been many of them. We will be back this summer! Until then...
I recently stayed at this gorgeous cabin. It was always my dream to stay in a log cabin and I couldn't have picked a nicer one to stay in. It combined that old fashioned cabin look, but had all the modern conveniences that one could ask for. It only took 2 hours to get to from my house on Long Island. The owner, Les, was so easy to deal with and was a complete gentleman. He returned my deposit within a few days, as was promised. I will DEFINITELY be returning to Pop's Cabin and recommend it to anyone reading these reviews.
Another wonderful stay at Pop's Cabin. Everything that you want or need is available. Les the owner is very accommodating and informative. The Cabin is kept in tip-top shape. Looking forward to returning to Pop's Cabin!
We were looking for a quaint and quiet log cabin for a weekend retreat but with the comforts of home. Pop's Cabin could not have been more perfect! It was clean, comfortable, charming, and had all the modern amenities you might need.
My fiance and I spent a long weekend at Pop's Cabin in July. From the pictures online we knew it would be a nice getaway, but after seeing and staying in the cabin it far exceeded all of our expecations! Les is a wonderful host and enthusistically showed us around when we arrived as well as made sure we knew about all of the "added" extras that had been built into the cabin to make it what it is. The house is beyond immaculate! I don't think I have ever stayed anywhere (and we travel alot) that was as clean and comfortable as this cabin. The location was only second to the cabin. The surrounding area was very serene yet provided some great finds for "foodies" in nearby towns. Overall - we cannot wait to return to Pop's Cabin very soon!!
