Two bedroom Two bath 3 miles west of downtown great for 4 people
Set well back from the road on 4.5 acres...birds, hawks, owls, turkeys, deer, dragonflies, trees, lawns, flowers, grape arbor, wisteria, and, seasonally, apples, pears, blackberries, and persimmons. The level walk-out from the living room to the patio and garden provides comfortable and private in and outdoor living during spring, summer and fall. The winters are cozy too with the wood burning fireplace and a sofa bed in the living room.
Our place is perfect for two couples and people with children. Each of the two bedrooms are on opposite ends of a hallway. The master bedroom has its own bath. There is a paknplay, a mat type bed and plenty of toys for the under 8 crowd. The backyard, though unfenced, is well defined and excellent for play. There are two acres of woods with paths above the level grassed yard.
Our formal dining area seats six easily (we often seat 10) with immediate access to back yard with lawn and Sycamore trees. . Kitchen is fully equipped and has stainless steel appliances including dual fuel range, dishwasher, refrigerator.
Master bedroom has a private bathroom with claw foot tub. Nice views of trees including Fuyu persimmon tree outside the window. When the leaves change it floods the room with a beautiful gold orange glow.
The second bedroom with a queen size bed is off the hall as is the main bathroom with stall shower.
The private back yard of the house has trellised patio, lawn area, and steps to the upper acres. It is great for viewing birds and other wildlife.
Beautiful garden with gravel paths and pretty flowers in the spring and summer. Don't forget to check out the stone waterway, feels like a different climate a nice cool place to relax on hot days. An extra pair of flat shoes are a good idea for walking on the gravel paths. This property was named Owl Hill because the owls will call back and forth to each other from the tree tops.
Approximately 15 minutes to Bodega Bay. Less than 10 minutes to the town of Freestone, Osmosis Spa, and Wild Flour Bakery and within minutes to some of the best West Sonoma County wineries.

About Dawn Daro
We are a Bay Area family, grandparents of three families each with two kids. All of us enjoy this vacation home when we can get away. Not luxury but very comfortable for a relaxed vacation.
Dawn Daro purchased this House in 2008
Why Dawn Daro chose Sebastopol
We bought this home to be close to wineries, hiking and ocean but also for the beautiful gardens and trails that are on the property. While the home has been updated, it is still casual and comfortable. We enjoy having our grandchildren visit and they enjoy it too.

Charming get away in the woods!
We loved staying here. The kitchen was well supplied with good cookware which is important to us. The house had all we needed. We’ll plan on coming again!
Relaxing, comfortable home, secluded and scenic
Warm and comfortable home away, furnishings were nice, kitchen well stocked with utensils, bonus washer and dryer. Enjoyed the outdoor grill and seating. Located about 3 miles from Sebastapol where there is plenty of shopping, eating and drinking. Homeowner was extremely accommodating and easy to communicate with. I look forward to staying here again.
Once we arrived, we recognized the home immediately. We've been there when our in laws stayed last year. Great home, very clean, comfortable, and quiet. Great kitchen and a perfect night for the fireplace. The only downside was that it took some time to get the inside warmed up.
Thanks, Hank for your stay and comments. We will try to get the heater up and running in advance of guests' arrival particularly in the cold weather. Please visit us again.
Picturesque cottage in the woods
The cottage was perfect for our needs and the grounds were beautiful.
Restoration Santa Rosa Fires
Unfortunately our visit to Santa Rosa was not a vacation but business. My husband was called to help with restoring Santa Rosa after the horrific fires which took place in October of last year. We have had the pleasure of being in this beautiful area for 3 months now. Staying at Dawn's was home away from home. Her place is very welcoming and feels like you are visiting family. She was very responsive and helpful when we needed assistance with the internet. Not knowing how long we are going to be here makes it very difficult to make plans in advance or we would still be there. The most unique and amazing experience at this location was hearing the owls at night when all is quite and you drift off to sleep.
Thanks Dawn. We enjoyed having you as our guest and welcome you back if work brings you back our way.
A Beautiful, Private Cottage--Perfect Getaway!
Let me begin by saying I so thoroughly enjoyed my stay that I chose to extend my time there by several days! On that note, the owner, Dawn, could not have been more accommodating and helpful in that process--this along with offering access to her anytime should I need anything, should questions arise or access to knowledge/insights on the area, doing so while at the same time affording the privacy and enjoyment of her lovely cottage.
The house itself is tucked away up a hill in the woods (VERY near town), with a private driveway/entrance. Below the house/down the hill lies the caretaker unit that you'll pass on the way up, but it is also facing downhill and is a fully separate entity.
Once inside you pass through the very convenient laundry room and into the kitchen, which is fully stocked with everything you'll need for your stay. It opens up into the great room where there's first a nice-sized dining room table, where beyond it there are couches in the living room portion of the room, set up by fireplace alongside a flatscreen tv (with cable including on-demand and HBO) and DVD player+stereo options. The great room, like most of the house, offers a beautiful and essentially panoramic view of the backside of the property through its array of large windows, looking out onto the garden and back porch area, as well as the wooded area and trail behind (and part of) the property--more on that in a bit. If you'd prefer more privacy or wish to nap on the couch, there are curtains for the plethora of windows if that suits you better. There's a lot to be said for such a lovely view from the dining room or even the couch, especially when feeling engulfed in the comforts of home.
Moving on through, the rest of the house is comprised of 2 good-sized bedrooms and also 2 full bathrooms. The master bedroom is conjoined to a spacious bathroom with garden-style tub, while the other bathroom is in the hallway connecting the bedrooms and behind (technically in front of when facing the house) the great room, and it offers a nice standup shower. Both bathrooms have windows if you like letting in the cool California air, and their setup offers bathing options, depending on your preference.
As mentioned, there are trails running behind the home with a couple of entry points--one begins with a stairway located just above where you park, and the other is without stairs on the opposite side of the hill. Looks like I'll have to continue this on a 2nd review post...
We love the 'best of all worlds' location.Rural setting but not remote. We are pretty much centered in WEST SONOMA county. Lots of wineries with tasting rooms( including one by appointment on our street) within 20 minutes drive. Three miles to downtown Sebastopol and twenty minutes to the coast.
