Comfortable Two Bedroom Shingled Cottage amid gardens and 4.5 wooded Acres

Bedrooms 2
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Two bedroom Two bath 3 miles west of downtown great for 4 people

Set well back from the road on 4.5 acres...birds, hawks, owls, turkeys, deer, dragonflies, trees, lawns, flowers, grape arbor, wisteria, and, seasonally, apples, pears, blackberries, and persimmons. The level walk-out from the living room to the patio and garden provides comfortable and private in and outdoor living during spring, summer and fall. The winters are cozy too with the wood burning fireplace and a sofa bed in the living room.

Our place is perfect for two couples and people with children. Each of the two bedrooms are on opposite ends of a hallway. The master bedroom has its own bath. There is a paknplay, a mat type bed and plenty of toys for the under 8 crowd. The backyard, though unfenced, is well defined and excellent for play. There are two acres of woods with paths above the level grassed yard.

Our formal dining area seats six easily (we often seat 10) with immediate access to back yard with lawn and Sycamore trees. . Kitchen is fully equipped and has stainless steel appliances including dual fuel range, dishwasher, refrigerator.

Master bedroom has a private bathroom with claw foot tub. Nice views of trees including Fuyu persimmon tree outside the window. When the leaves change it floods the room with a beautiful gold orange glow.

The second bedroom with a queen size bed is off the hall as is the main bathroom with stall shower.

The private back yard of the house has trellised patio, lawn area, and steps to the upper acres. It is great for viewing birds and other wildlife.

Beautiful garden with gravel paths and pretty flowers in the spring and summer. Don't forget to check out the stone waterway, feels like a different climate a nice cool place to relax on hot days. An extra pair of flat shoes are a good idea for walking on the gravel paths. This property was named Owl Hill because the owls will call back and forth to each other from the tree tops.

Approximately 15 minutes to Bodega Bay. Less than 10 minutes to the town of Freestone, Osmosis Spa, and Wild Flour Bakery and within minutes to some of the best West Sonoma County wineries.

We try to offer a great value for our rate both in and out of season. Check out our off season rates. We have had several monthly guests in the last few years. An easy house to "settle in". We are a Bay Area family, grandparents of three families each with two kids. All of us enjoy this vacation home when we can get away. Not luxury but very comfortable for a relaxed vacation.

The cottage shares a driveway with caretaker unit that is downhill and facing away from the vacation rental. Sonoma county TOT certificate #679N

About Dawn Daro

We are a Bay Area family, grandparents of three families each with two kids. All of us enjoy this vacation home when we can get away. Not luxury but very comfortable for a relaxed vacation.

Dawn Daro purchased this house in 2008

Why Dawn Daro chose Sebastopol

We bought this home to be close to wineries, hiking and ocean but also for the beautiful gardens and trails that are on the property. While the home has been updated, it is still casual and comfortable. We enjoy having our grandchildren visit and they enjoy it too.

Perfect solitude

Love the natural forest setting. Listening to the bird calls while enjoying our morning on a lovely deck....doesn't get much better than that!

Thank you for a lovely but too brief a stay!

The property was beautiful and quiet

  • 5 of 5

Our experience was fantastic. Dawn did a wonderful job making sure we were all good to go and left notes around the house for things to look out for. The beds were both very comfortable and we had plenty of linens for everyone. Thank you for the great weekend!

We enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

This property had the most well equipped kitchen of any property in which we have stayed in either North America or Europe. Virtually every spice/condiment needed to create a gourmet meal is available. Coffee pods we provided in abundance, though we chose to use the French press that was provided more often than the Keurig. The only reason I don't give it five stars is because of a few quirks that should be addressed. These include the sliding door screens which come off the tracks rather easily and annoyingly. Also, the shower in the hall bathroom requires some getting used to in obtaining the correct temperature. A hand written note taped to the shower door indicates the proper angle of the handle for optimum hot water. Other than that it was very quiet and relaxing. This is the second time we have stayed at this property and won't hesitate to do so again. Thanks to Dawn for an enjoyable stay.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review and the heads up about the screen door. A new retractable type screen has been ordered and will be installed in the next two weeks. That should solve that problem once and for all. Thanks for your reservation and looking forward to your return.

A Sebastopol Sanctuary

  • 5 of 5

This is quite a special property, nestled up in the trees on the outskirts of a fun, funky community. The highlight of our stay at the house was spending time in the very private yard and deck area. There is a redwood tree near the house and many different bird species who call the surrounding forest home. The kitchen is well stocked and organized and the clawfoot tub with views of the trees is a perk. The energy of the house and its surroundings is infused with love. We stayed here with our three young children and we all throughly enjoyed it. We look forward to returning one day. This place is a true gem.
