Lake Michigan Beachfront Cottage

Bedrooms 4
Space 1,050 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 6 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)

If you are considering a rental, all of May, three weeks in June, and the last week of August 2018 are still available.

The Sandcastle is a comfortable four-bedroom beachfront family home looking out on beautiful Lake Michigan in Oceana County, 15 miles south of the Silver Lake sand dunes. This summer home sleeps eight, has parking for three cars, and sits on the northern-most lot of the Driftwood Beach Community - 120 ft. of beachfront. It's an easy walk down to the white-sand beach. The Sandcastle is generally available Spring and Fall, and during the Summer when we're not using it.

The land immediately north of the cottage is completely undeveloped - unspoiled nature at it's best - beautiful open beach and sand dunes for quiet evening walks or morning jogs. Behind the dunes are woods for hiking and exploring, and little Lost Lake for Blue Heron watching. Enjoy the swimming and kayaking, and at the end of the day there's nothing like relaxing on the outdoor deck, just watching the spectacular sunsets over the lake. We are dog friendly. WIFI and cable.

About Floyd Fowler

Our family has been enjoying this wonderful home on Lake Michigan for 50 years.

Floyd Fowler purchased this cottage in 1964

Why Floyd Fowler chose Shelby

This is a family home - and feels like it. You'll have all the comfort and relaxation you'll ever need. Easy walk to the beach - all white sand, no rocks. Perfect full view of Lake Michigan from the dining and living rooms, or the front porch swing.

What makes this cottage unique

We regularly see eagles and blue herons, and there's nothing like the open, undeveloped nature conservancy adjacent to our property on the north. At night you'll see shooting stars.

Secluded and peaceful

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in June and experienced a wonderful relaxing vacation. We visited with our adult children and parents. Quiet, peaceful, beautiful. The house was clean and well stocked with everything we needed. We used the kayaks and the canoe, we walked the beach, we sat for hours outside on the deck overlooking the water. We saw the eagle every day and when hiking to find the lake behind the house, we found it's nest. The hammock was used daily and our kids hung their Moosejaw hammocks in the trees. They had the wood pile well stocked for nighttime campfires. We highly recommend jeep tour at Silver Lake (we used Parrot's Landing) and Pentwater is a quaint place to shop/eat. We loved the privacy and quietness. The owner was easy to contact and work with.

True 4br 2fb on the beach with privacy

  • 5 of 5

If you are looking for a true 4 bedroom 2 full bath cottage on the beach with privacy for a reasonable price this is it!

I have grown up spending my summers in this area of Michigan. This is by far my favorite rental.

I have three children and we had some extended family stay and there was room for everyone. The owners also allow dogs which is not easy to find in my experience. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans and any gadgets you need and there were plenty of linens. The best thing about this place is that it is on a beautiful beach convenient to the fun of stony lake and silver lake by a short drive but still private. The beach is terrific for kids as the water doesn't get deep unless you go way out. There is nothing on one side of the house except beautiful sand dunes and woods. I spent much time on the deck and in the hammock. We launched the kayaks daily from the beach. There is also a nice yard for having a fire or playing games. We are returning this year and can't wait to get up there and let the relaxation begin. If you have never been to this area before the owner is great with any info you need.

Great Lakefront Property

  • 5 of 5

We recently stayed at this quaint cottage on beautiful Lake Michigan. We had a wonderful stay and the cottage is exactly as described. The cottage has great sleeping accommodations with a separate room with twin beds for younger children. It is stocked with everything you need for your stay. Gorgeous property with a full view of the lake. There are so many special things about this place- the sunsets, a large firepit, multiple decks, and lots of birdwatching! It is especially nice not to have other occupied cottages on both sides of the property so there is more privacy than many beachfront properties. We look forward to a return stay.

Wonderful, relaxing vacation at the beach!

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the Sandcastle. It was just as the listing and photos described. Our family included 6 adults and 3 kids. All the adults had their own bedroom and the kids had a room of their own too. We really appreciate that the cottage owners allowed us to bring our little dog. The kitchen/living/dining area is very open and light with nice views of the lake, and while some were cooking and others watching the game on TV and the kids playing games at the table, we could still all be together and interacting. We had plenty of towels and the beds were fresh and nicely made up. We spent most of our time outdoors, though. Beautiful location! We loved the deck on the low bluff. The fire pit was great. There were plenty of lawn chairs and comfortable chaise lounge chairs. It was so nice to have use of the kayaks. Everyone tried them out and had so much fun. There is nothing major to criticize, as the cottage was clean and neat and for the most part in good repair. The screen doors were an issue as they kept coming off the track, which got to be pretty annoying. The downstairs bathroom was kind of small, dark, and dank, but there was a dehumidifier down there which helped. The bedroom off the kitchen was a nice sized room, but the mattress was very noisy and not real comfortable - irritating to wake up every time you move or turn over. Those were minor irritations - we truly did enjoy the cottage, the property, and the beach. The owner responded quickly to my initial inquiry and the rental process was easy and smooth. We would definitely recommend this property to others.

Phenomenal Get Away!

  • 5 of 5

When I first talked to Lori I was very impressed with the amount of information she gave me. She made the process of renting this beautiful cabin very easy. We arrived on October 17th and we were very impressed with the lay out of the home and the views of the lake were amazing! My dog "Barley" had plenty of room to play outside. He ran over the sand dunes happily barking and jumping like around a jack rabbit. As we spent our last night on the beach watching the sunset we decided that this will be an annual trip for us...We will be contacting Lori soon to book for next October.

Lake Michigan fan

  • 5 of 5

Our vacation at this beach front cottage on Lake Michigan was wonderful. Although the weather was not ideal, the homey cottage was perfect. It was well equiped with everything needed for a relaxing and enjoyable stay. So many beach front homes are dank and musty but the air circulation system in this home removed any dampness from the air. There are so many perfect vantage points at this home to view the magnificent sunsets--the front swing, the side deck, the sunset deck on the way to the beach and the beach itself. And, sometimes after a storm, the sunsets are the most beautiful. If you stay here, make sure to visit the magical Claybanks Pottery Studio just a short drive down the road.
