This gorgeous property is a favorite vacation spot for well-known actors, musicians, athletes, artists, doctors and entrepreneurs. We have many repeat visitors who feel that our house is their second home.

Rising from the Pacific, Kauai's signature peak (called Bali Hai ever since 'South Pacific' was shot here) is simply breathtaking. Surfing, swimming, paddle boarding and just walking the beach are rare pleasures.
Rainbows often seem to rise from the ocean.

The house is a stunning yet cozy timber frame on a wide lawn with incredible views. The interior features antiques and pine furnishings, beamed ceilings and warm colors - predominantly soft reds and blues.

Three bedrooms have king beds. The front bedroom has breathtaking ocean and mountain views. Two bedrooms have en suite bathrooms; the third has beautiful Tommy Bahama furnishings and a connecting bathroom.

KITCHEN: Counters and a center island are topped with rare 'Bahia Blue' granite. There's a blue Viking range with a griddle, and a Sub-Zero refrigerator.

We prefer no more than six tenants at a time, but will consider 7-8 depending on children's ages.

Fantastic property and location

We spent a week at Joe’s beautiful house and had a great time. The property itself is fantastic, well appointed and perfect for a family. The location is amazing sitting right on Tunnels Beach. You can walk right into the beach from the yard for a quick walk or snorkel, or a sunset cocktail. Finally Joe is a great host, accommodating, responsive and very nice.

Paradise Found

This house is the most peaceful and lovely place I have ever stayed at on this planet. The actual house is so clearly well maintained and stocked with top quality products. The yard, view and beach access is absolutely unrivaled. I could not recommend this space more!!!!

Pure Relaxation

We stayed at this amazing property for nine days and it is by far the best experience I have ever had with VRBO or any other rental. The owner has been in the area for decades and was very helpful during our entire stay. We have been to Kauai multiple times and this was by far our best experience. If you want to be directly on the beach and relax and watch amazing sunsets and rainbows this is the place to be. We will definitely be returning to this property if Joe will have us back!!

One of a kind location

This house sits on a very unique piece of land. Properties like this are few and far between. The views are so beautiful and you're literally steps away from one of the best beaches in Kauai. The house itself is comfortable and has a cozy feel. A few things worth noting: - the location is quite remote and going anywhere is an adventure so be prepared to spend most of the time near the house. - there's no ac so nights can be a bit hot in the primary bedroom. Joe, the owner, lives next door with his wife and was very helpful. Overall this a great property and I would definitely recommend it.

Perfect Family Getaway

What an extraordinary piece of paradise! We are filled to the brim as we finish up our three-generation family dream vacation in this glorious home. It is, by far, the most incredible home we’ve ever rented. We had high expectations but were not prepared for our breath being continuously taken away by the views of the coastal mountains against the sea. Every day, we were delighted to have a direct path from the house onto Tunnels Beach for the best snorkeling of our life. Stargazing on the spacious lawn was another bonus with Milky Way views for days! The home was cozy, inviting, beautifully crafted. We really appreciated the owner’s attentive hospitality. We can’t wait to come back!

Bali Hai High

This property is by far the best beach house we have ever rented anywhere. It is better than the photos illusrtate. To get up in the morning, make a cup of coffee and walk out on that deck and see that view is a most incredible way to start the day. There is not one thing I would want to change about the house, the area, the beach, the snorkeling, the owners and their staff, etc. I snorkeled 4 or 5 times everyday, and saw many turtles and tropical fish. We did not go into town very often, as we knew immediately, the best place to be was at the house and beach, on rainbow patrol. We loved sitting at the beach at sunset. Plus the furnishings and the feel of the house was so perfect for the setting. Being there made all of us feel refreshed and stress free, a natural high. Thank you so much. We can't wait to go back. I would certainly recommend this property to a friend or relative.

Perfect place to stay

My husband and I enjoyed an amazing weeks stay. The location can’t get any better than this. You walk through the path at the back of the property and you’re on Tunnels Beach. It was perfect; no dealing with parking, worrying about bathrooms, keeping food (and drinks) cold, carrying all your things a distance. That’s why you rent a home in this location - no stress. The home is large and if there are 3 couples you each would have privacy with your own bedrooms/ bathrooms. The kitchen had cookware, dish ware, glassware and a large frig/freezer, a nice large gathering area in the kitchen and great room area. Once you have traveled out here, you want to enjoy every minute and not have to make a supply run. Joe (fantastic host) did mention he does not supply anything since covid, which is understandable. You will need to bring; salt/pepper, spices/seasonings, coffee, oils/butter, foil, plastic wrap, etc There were coffee filters, dish/ dishwasher soap and hand soap. As for the other supplies there was shampoo/ conditioner, soap, plenty of towels (beach and home) and laundry detergent. You might think about bringing your Apple TV to expand your viewing options in the TV room. There were beach folding chairs and a couple umbrellas which was great. Overall a great place to stay at the end of the road. We will be back!

Absolutely the best!

There is simply no better property in Kauai. We’ve been coming to the island for years and this is hands down the best property on the island. If you are looking for a quiet, secluded, private experience with the best beach on the island, this is it. The mornings, evening and nights are the best - we had the beach all to ourselves most days. Don’t plan any excursions, you won’t want to leave this property. Joe is a great host, be sure to visit Postcards restaurant in Hanalei at least once…best cuisine on the island.

Amazing!

We had a simply amazing week at this beautiful home! Best location on the island. Walk right out to Tunnels Beach for the best snorkeling in Kauai. I only gave it a 4 for cleanliness because there was gecko poop on the beds and some sticky film on the kitchen countertops. The owner was very concerned when we told him about this and was going to speak with the housekeeper. Owner was next door and readily available. The beds were super comfortable with the master bedroom facing the ocean with direct view of Nepali Coast. Beautiful view of the sunset and stars on clear nights. Relaxing and comfortable stay. Would stay here again!

Beach House Paradise

Tunnel Beach, Kauai, Awesome Setting

Beautiful home, very well maintained and very cute. Perfect beach set up and floor plan too. Could use a new refrigerator. No air conditioning but I have learned most homes in Kauai do not have air conditioning. It was pretty cool with just the windows and doors open. Very safe area, all the doors unlocked and all the windows open the whole time to keep it cool. The master bedroom does need some simple window treatments for the afternoon sun, but we did ok without them, we got up earlier too.

Magnificent property, magical place. Very special.

From the moment we turned down the drive to the house, we were drawn to the grounds - a beautiful orchard, manicured lawn and an abundant garden with flowers ranging from vibrant magenta to lemony yellow. Joe's property is second to none. The incredible skill and craftsmanship that went into building the guest house is evident throughout, with teak floors, highest quality appliances, cozy bedding, and beams constructed by a master. Joe also owns #PostcardsCafe, a wonderful cafe with indoor and outdoor seating, and an incredible menu. We loved it so much we went back a couple times. We're so grateful to Joe for sharing his bounty with us, and letting us play with his pup, Grady and cockatoo Lulu. Joe is a wonderful host, and really had our best interests in mind. All in all, a world-class stay!

The very best

Joe's home in Haena was, quite simply, one of the most amazing places that we have ever stayed, anywhere. From the moment that we walked through the front door, we knew we had lucked into something really special. The house was open, beautiful, and comfortably appointed with a peerless view of Tunnels Beach (Makua), its beautiful reef, and the famous "Bali Hai" at the end of Haena Bay. It has a great deck overlooking a beautiful lawn (perfect for throwing a football around!) surrounded by an immaculately maintained tropical garden. We would sit on the porch sipping coffee in the morning watching surfers on the outer reef and then in the evening play games and enjoy a cocktail from this vantage point as the sun went down. From the lawn, you exit directly onto the best beach in Kauai. Right in front of you is what many snorkeling guidebooks claim is the best snorkeling site on the island. In our experience, that was absolutely true. There are fish of every color and type in abundance and there wasn't a day we were there that we didn't snorkel multiple times a day. When you are done, just pop back up the beach to the house, rinse yourself off in the outdoor shower and drop your snorkel gear for the next time. I've never had access to an easier and more satisfying snorkeling experience. The beach is also an amazing place to enjoy some of the best sunsets you'll ever see. Access to the wonderful town of Hanalei (~15 min) and to the Na Pali Coast (~5 min) was incredibly easy and the hikes on Na Pali have to be considered some of the most picturesque in the world. Joe was very attentive to any question or need that we had and was a warm and gracious host. This was one of the most special vacations we've ever had, in one of the most beautiful places in the world, on what seems to us to be the very best property in the area.

Magical Tropical Perfection

We are just finishing our week long stay at this one of a kind home on Tunnels Beach. To say that it is beautiful is an understatement. The location, the house, the views!!! We have traveled many to many wonderful places, but this is for sure the most incredible location, on the most fantastic beach we have ever experienced. A reef protects the beach in front of the house so the swimming is awesome. And there is world class scuba diving that you can do as a shore dive (with a guide!) just off of the beach. The restaurants in Hanalei are a must, particularly Postcards (owned by the property owner Joe, a friendly and caring host who lives next door), and AMA. Napali Catamaran out of Hanalei gave us a great afternoon down the Napali Coast and hiking the Napali Trail is so convenient, just down the road. Joe has taken meticulous care of this home and we feel honored to have stayed here. Kauai is truly the definition of Tropical Perfection. We look forward to the day that we will be lucky enough to return!

Best House on the Island

I've been coming to Kauai since I was 21 (over 10 trips) and have stayed all over the north shore and I can say without a doubt, this house was the best. It's a beautiful, thoughtful, comfortable place that would be stunning anywhere but when it's beach front property at Tunnels beach, there is no comparison. You simply could not pick a better location with a better view anywhere on the island. Joe is a fantastic host with great stories about the area through the decades and I'm sure we only scratched the surface of his stories. Maybe one day there will be a book. Stay here and you'll never want to stay anywhere else in Hawaii.

This was our 2nd stay at this Tunnels Beach property. Staying there is a very special experience. There is no better location. Every evening we rolled down the few steps to the beach for a spectacular Bali Hai sunset—could never tire of it. Starry nights as there is minimal ambient light out there. With every sunrise a peaceful paddle board with no one around. Joe is an excellent host.

This house was one of very few residences on Tunnels Beach (Makua Beach) when we bought it in 1986, as a vacation home. We moved to Kauai permanently in 1992 - TWO WEEKS before the powerful Hurricane Iniki destroyed our home and many others. We began rebuilding a few years later. The beautiful new house was completed, and became a rental, in 1998. We have had amazing tenants and many, many repeat visitors. Everyone loves the house and its incredible location.
