There is an excellent grocery store and Barbs Bakery and Farmers Market featuring fresh produce daily.

Art’s Tavern deserves its own special mention. Arts offers a great time, good food and drink, breakfast, lunch and dinner and after dinner fun. The burgers are great, the soup and desserts are great and it’s very kid friendly (tater tots). It features Glen Arbor’s only pool table that comes out of the floor at night. The décor is uh shall we say funky and unique.

Wonderful property

  • 5 of 5

We truly enjoyed our stay up here! Three buildings - 2 houses and a rec room (that has a loft with beds)! Our family (6 adults and 4 children under 9) spent the week and could not have asked for more. The owner was very responsive to questions. The location is beautiful. Sandy beach and shallow out to the dock which gave our young ones plenty of water space.

The younger ones learned to Kayak and all of us enjoyed time kayaking around the lake!

We could not have asked for anything more! Thank you for sharing your lovely home(s)!

And thank you for the great weather!

Really nice family compound

  • 5 of 5

My whole extended family went up to Michigan earlier this summer for the first family trip in years. This was a very big deal. There are some members of the family with very "specific" demands and needs (read;high maintenance). As the leader of this fine group, I was tasked with finding accommodations that would be suitable for all of us. Our group included 2 families with kids ages 5-13, 2 grandparents, another young family with a 3 month old and a hipster bachelor! No easy task! However, this property fit the bill perfectly. Thomas and Pat were super easy to work with, answering all of my ridiculous questions. They were just finishing the opening of the property when we got there, so we ended up with a super tour. The original older house was perfect for the grands and the younger family. The kitchen was very nicely outfitted with everything we needed. One of my biggest pet peeves when renting is never having enough serving bowls.....this place had more than enough! The main bedroom/bathroom was swanky enough for those who like swanky. We ended up eating breakfast and dinner in that house every day. The other house is more of a typical rental-type house; open kitchen that is not quite as nice as the other, but certainly sufficient, 2 bedrooms on the smaller side but with excellent bedding and pillows, and a loft full of beds for the kids to sort out. The rec room provided a nice respite for anyone who may not want be in the thick of it with several bed options, as well.

The location was also terrific. It is very close to town, nice bike ride or pretty determined walk (we drove, but it took about 5 minutes). The beach is fabulous, no algae or water plants at all, no rocks, nice and shallow for plenty of kid fun! We used the kayaks a lot, rented several SUP's, of course had a boat and tube, used the fire pit, etc. There are also beautiful planters that are self watering all around the houses and decking, a very nice touch that puts this place a notch above the rest. As an added bonus, the owners even leave directions out of the area-which saved us from massive confusion trying to reverse our inbound directions. My only complaint was the mosquitos and the temperature being a bit bracing. Bring your parkas and bug spray and stay here.

Owner's Response: I'm sorry about the weather. The summer of 2014 was an unseasonably cool wet summer. Totally unlike all the other summers of beautiful 80º days.

The Best on Big Glen....

  • 5 of 5

We have vacationed on Glen Lake many times over the years and this was our second stay here. "Family Compound" perfectly describes this property. The beach house and chalet are welcoming, comfortable, and extremely accommodating (beach house dining area seats 16!). The rec room is the perfect hang out for the younger ones in the crowd. The outdoor areas are awesome (beach, decks, flower beds, landscape, outdoor hot water shower). The compound sits on the North shore of the lake - which in my opinion is the best from a water perspective (calm, clear turquoise water, access to Fisher Lake) and from a land perspective (deep wooded lots, bike or walk to Glen Arbor with minimal traffic). This compound is so serene that you will never want to leave it...but if you do venture out make sure these are on your bucket list: Dune Climb, Sleeping Bear Overlook, breakfast at Art's, Lake Michigan charter fishing on the Mariah (smoke your fish at Carlson's in Leland), kayak to Fisher Lake and beyond, sit on the deck at Boone Dock's and listen to live music, golf at Manitou Passage, shop and dine in Traverse City, and last but not least, satisfy your sweet tooth at Cherry Republic. Thank you Turner family for making our summer vacation spectacular!

Perfect for Family Reunions!

  • 5 of 5

We just returned from this wonderful Family Compound. The space was absolutely perfect for our 4 families to come together on beautiful Glen Lake. The location was ideal...close to town. The space was neat and well stocked. The beach is perfect for small children with clean, clear, and shallow water. The owners are a delight to work with! We are looking forward to returning!!!

Pictures do not do justice to this well maintained, amenity filled compound.
