Why Chris chose Union Pier

We love the location, only 75 minutes from downtown Chicago, yet a world away from all that noise and hustle. The area has chosen to keep the immediate area less developed so we still have gravel roads. A 4-minute walk down a wooded path leads you to a semi- private beach where you can soak up the sun or enjoy a glass of wine at sunset. Another favorite is sitting on the screened in porch talking and laughing the night away. The architecture of this home is unique amongst all area homes. Its great to see a first timer enter the great room. Their 1st word is usually "Wow!"

What makes this cottage unique

A couple things you'll LOVE about the cottage are:

The screened in front porch. You can easily seat 8 people. It's cozy day or night and we provide a soft-sided cooler on the porch so you won't have to go too far for your next beverage. At night the porch is lit with dimmable white Italian (christmas style) lights so it never too bright or too dark!

Inside the architecture is one of a kind with true open bean construction. The beams are actually reclaimed wood from a Sears and Roebuck warehouse that was torn down decades ago. The 4'x6' skylight above the hallway and loft assures the interior never feels dark during the day and allows you to stargaze indoors at night.

The kitchen is what makes the great room. Featuring a dark granite countertop and a "funky" corrugated metal front wall you and your guests will find yourselves gathering at the island constantly. The double basin stainless steel sink, restaurant kitchen style faucet along with a Viking 4 burner cooktop and griddle plus all the kitchen tools and gadgets you'd ever need make the kitchen a great place to have cheese, crackers and glass or wine or cook a full gourmet meal.

The decor. From the kitchen island, the 14' natural edge cherry wood dining table, custom made fireplace, open beams and metal turnbuckles, unique artwork, natural stone bathroom floors, bedroom drapes and pillows made from antique dish towels, Huge leather sofa and antique tables and cabinets all come together perfectly to make an eclectic yet, warm & homey, environment.

Plus the semi-private beach is only a 4-minute walk down a gravel road and wooded path. Perfect!

The most comments from those who've stayed here are about the screened in porch. Filled with antique wicker furniture its a place to gather, talk, laugh and relax. At night gently light the porch with dimmable Italian "christmas" lights that blanket the porch's ceiling. The semi-private beach is only a short walk away. Since the beach is owned by the local homeowners association it is not public and therefore clean, well-managed and seldom crowded. Enjoy!

Everything is perfect about this place. We utilize every space inside and out. Huge Chef's kitchen for cooking meals. The front screened in porch for enjoying cocktails, reading a book or strumming a guitar.

Perfectly relaxing week in Four Seasons Bungalow

  • 5 of 5

We spent alot of time in the great room and the screen porch, both of which are super-comfortable, easily seated all six of us adults, and encouraged both togetherness and occasional napping. The massive dining table is perfect for a big meal with a big group. The kitchen is well-equipped and has a Viking stove. There is an impressive cookbook collection plus books of fiction and a binder of information about the area, such as bike route maps.

We slept well in our comfortable beds and my back feels better than it did at the beginning of our vacation. The location is close to the lake and a private beach, we met friendly neighbors, and our dog was welcomed by all. Our host, Chris, was friendly and helpful. Thanks, Chris, for the use of your beautiful home!

Amazing Memories during Week Long Stay

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful time at very well maintained property. Great atmosphere with open kitchen, living room, dining room. Overall home layout / unique features were well thought out as we have four small kids and a dog that needed to be supervised and this home made it easy. Beach was perfect as it had nice sand and was only two blocks away. Definitely planning on making a trip back!

Excellent Long Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

My husband, two kids and my husband's sister, her husband and three kids enjoyed a wonderful time at the Four Seasons Bungalow. (Kids all under the age of 5) The home was perfectly stocked! The kitchen was excellent. We even made pies while we were there. The beach is the perfect distance with kids. Chris was very helpful. He called to check-in on us. Would highly recommend!
