Kehena Point is the perfect getaway and a place you will remember for years to come! As one of our guests remarked, 'Leave your heels at home, immerse yourself into the laid back, poncho wearing hippie friendly, whale watching, swim with dolphin, organic loving community.'

Guestbook comments from the manager

"My husband and I very much enjoyed our 4 night stay in this one-of-a-kind place, in this one -of-a-kind location. We came to the East side of your beautiful island to experience Mother Nature - and did she deliver! Our first night, the waves were so strong it seemed they would crash right through. Very humbling for two inland city-dwellers.

We will miss the frog song, chasing the geckos and we will always rememberr our too brief time in Paradise." - Lorel and Tom, Vancouver, BC Canada

Great vacation spot

  • 5 of 5

We just loved this house! The location is spectacular, with awesome views from every room; the sunrises from the lawn were beautiful; the black sand beach a 10 minute walk from the house was lovely and secluded (wear shoes for the trail from the road to the beach). The property is close to the quaint little town of Pahoa, with a good grocery and great restaurants. The house is well-stocked, comfortable and stylish. Our 12-year old loved the loft (it's not really suitable for an adult sleeping spot, however). What a great place - we WILL be returning to this house on our next big island trip and will recommend to friends as well.

Spectacular property!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this house. Mind blowing views. House is very fun and stylish. We were a party of two adults and three kids. Kitchen is well equipped, beds very comfortable. The sunrises were so beautiful from this site, the kids were the ones setting their alarms and waking us up. We walked to nearby beach and enjoyed the alternative vibe. Don't wear flip flops -- it's a pretty rocky walk from road to beach. Took day trips to Pahoa and Kalapana. We would stay here again and recommend to our friends.

Gorgeous spot and really fun house

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the cliff house, and loved the crashing waves lulling us to sleep at night. The views from all the windows were stunning. A few windows would be better if they were cleaned but I think it was mostly spray from the ocean! Would highly recommend it.

Owner's Response: Thank you for staying at the Kehena Cliff House. Were happy to hear you enjoyed staying at this wonderful home. Unfortunately the windows do get etched for the salt air. We hope you will come stay again. Warm Aloha, Jamie

Magical Place

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my three children ages 13, 10, and 8 during Xmas break. It's a truly magical place! loved being in the eclectic home. Worked out well for me and the kiddos. A couple of them used the loft and one used the master bedroom on the top level while i stayed in the ground level room. Really enjoyed the openness of the place. Situated on the cliff, we could see porpoises and whales from the balcony!

It was really close to all the places we went to on a daily basis like the hot ponds, the lava viewing area, farmers markets, and the lovely town of Pahoa. We've been to the Big Island many times but this was the first time we spent some time in Puna. We will definately stay here again; a perfect place for a home base.

Beautiful view, mediocre experience.

  • 2 of 5

I was really excited for this house, I've seen it before on previous trips to Puna, and I always thought it was really cool. Unfortunately, between our non-responsive host and the bizarre (but very easily fixable) issues with the house, it ended up being something of a disappointment. The catchment tank wasn't full when we arrived, and we ran out of water on the last day. Jaime wouldn't answer her phone, and never responded to my voicemail. Even if the area has been light on rain recently, there's no excuse for that. There are very reasonable services in the area that deliver water and the hosts should have taken care of that before we arrived. Also the loft space above the kitchen is dangerous to get in and out of (one of us broke a toe and accidentally took out a lightbulb in a fall) , and it turns out all that's up there anyway are a few mismatched, different sized pieces of raw foam with a mattress pad awkwardly forced around it anyway. The listing makes it seem like a real bed. Also, other than the front door (which is hanging unevenly and makes a horrific metal-on-metal screeching noise upon being forced open), there are no doors anywhere in the house, including the toilet area, which is only separated by a frosted, clear 4.5 foot half shower door type thing with giant gaps on the top and bottom. Also there's a giant window in front of the toilet on both floors, which isn't an issue on the top, but on the bottom it's weird to have to look people in the eyes who are in the yard while you're sitting on the toilet. Also, anyone staying on the middle floor has to awkwardly go up or down into either of the bedrooms where people might be sleeping or just wanting some privacy anytime they need to use the restroom (which then means that the person in the bedroom also needs to leave until the other person is done using the bathroom unless they want to watch the other person do their business through the frosted half-door feet away from the bed.). This place would be cool for 2 people who are flexible and don't mind the lack of air conditioning despite the high temperatures and catastrophic humidity, but for any more than 2 people the lack of privacy is pretty irritating. Don't be fooled by the cool looking avant garden design- there's nothing high-end about this property. There are many better options in the area, and I recommend looking elsewhere. The cliffs were nice... But there are free cliffs to check out all over lower Puna. Mahalo.

Owner's Response: Aloha Anthony, I'm sorry to hear you were so unhappy with the Kehena Cliff House. I got a call from you that you were departing and that a light fixture was broken by one of the guests and if I had questions to call you. You mentioned nothing about running out of water or any other of the listed issues. Were sorry to hear the weather was uncooperative for you on your stay - we do get unusually high humidity to couple times a year - there's not much we can do. As per the excellent reviews from our guests that truly enjoy this beautiful unique home (and return regularly) I am sorry it was not up to your needs.

Amazing ocean views, unforgettable experience !

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Cliff house for three days and had tons of fun. It is a very interesting house, well stocked and beautifully furnished, tasteful decor and... AMAZING views from every room. The location is quite something: Cliff house says it all, as you are perched on a triangular land with ocean splashing on both sides: perfect, quiet and majestic. Front seat for witnessing wonderful storms and sunrises alike. Sleeping at the sound of crashing waves below is just something you must do once in your life. Experience the power of nature! Amazing stargazing and photo op for the camera inclined. The local "hidden" beach is fun and we enjoyed it very much. We stayed there with our two girls (age 4 and 6) and they manage to stay safe inside (circular stair) and outside (cliff). Make friend with the home gecko and the mosquitos will stay away ;)

Only a few minutes drive to lava flow viewing (as Pele permits). Clothing optional black sand beach within walking distance. About 10 miles to hot ponds.

Note: As of 10/2014, there is a lava flow slowly advancing towards Pahoa. This could be a once in a lifetime chance to witness a change in the Hawaii landscape, if the lava advances into the town. There is a possibility that the highway 130 could be covered by the lava. The County has already built several alternate contingency routes - good gravel roads for travel to and from the Puna area, if needed. The car rental companies will allow rental cars to use these roads.
