Overview

About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4-5)

Aloha and welcome to Kona View Estate, a 3 Acre Luxury Vacation Rental Property comfortably nestled on the slopes of Hualalai overlooking Kailua-Kona.

The entire estate has been completely remodeled and updated with top-of-the-line appliances. In October of 2011 we completed our huge solar project: We replaced our roof to allow us to install a (11.25 Kw) Photovoltaic (PV) system as well as solar hot water. We also added a 1,200 sq ft Exercise/Wellness Facility that features a top of the line Life Fitness treadmill and elliptical trainer. There is ample room for stretching. Balance balls, mats and light weights are also included. Wall to wall windows and jalousies keep the facility cool and highlight the incredible view. There is a hot tub in a private location that offers the same stunning views as the rest of the estate. In 2013 we refitted the infinity edge swimming pool with a saltwater style chlorine generator which allows a much more comfortable swimming experience.

In May of 2014 we built a roasting shack to house our state-of-the-art coffee roaster. We are a working coffee farm and we look forward to sharing this wonderful experience with you.

We are located comfortably 'up country' in the midst of the Kona Coffee belt on a working coffee estate. It is usually 5-8 degrees cooler up here with the gentle breeze that comes off the mountain day or night providing an ideal temperature.

The Vista Suite is located on the South side of the villa and has its own separate entrance. All rooms overlook the Pacific Ocean through the lanai, deck and infinity pool. The master bedroom has a King size bed – when you awake you can see 30 miles of the Kona coastline and ocean from your bed. It has an attached private master bath with a large soaking tub as well as a walk-in shower. The second bedroom features two twin-sized beds that can be made into a King-sized bed upon your request. It has its own bath down the hall. The enormous gourmet Kitchen/Living Room/Dining Room has every amenity a chef could want. It also has a couch with a sleeper bed.

Because we live here we can offer services that usually are not available with a vacation rental. Do you need your refrigerator stocked with essentials prior to your arrival? We will gladly offer this concierge service for free. If any problems arise we are here 24/7 to help, make recommendations, give directions etc, but we tend to keep a low profile.

We are looking forward to sharing the powerful energy of this mountain retreat balanced by the outstanding views of the Pacific Ocean. You can often see the curvature of the earth as you awake and gaze over this lovely estate. This is a place of rejuvenation, relaxation, power and growth and we look forward to sharing it with you.

If you need more room please see our other VRBO listing #338995 which is on the same property. There is a link further down the page under 'Links to more Information'.

About The Owner

One owner is in search of the prefect cappuccino. The other is a holistic body-work practitioner and an exercise trainer. We can provide our clients with these services.

The Owner purchased this house in 2009

Why The Owner chose Kona Coast

We fell in love with the house and property the moment we saw it 7 years ago. Yes, the view of Kona and the coastline is the best that we saw in our two years of house hunting. But what struck us was the sense of serenity and calm this property and location afforded us. We immediately felt that we were 'home'. Part of the appeal to us also was the location right in the midst of the Kona Coffee Belt and the fact that the property had been a working coffee estate.

What makes this house unique

All of the pieces by themselves are incredible: the incredible view from every window, the infinity edge solar heated salt water pool, the hot tub, the holistic fitness center, a completely green solar electric powered house, the two acres in award winning coffee, the sights and sounds of the country, the fresh air. Put them all together and you have a true luxury estate to relax in - when you are not too busy exploring all that the Big Island has to offer!

Our location right in the midst of the Kona Coffee Belt and the fact that the property is a working coffee farm sets us apart from many other vacation rentals. We have just added a roasting shack and now can roast coffee in-house in a custom made artisanal drum coffee roaster. We can offer to our guests our own private label 100% Kona Estate Certified Coffee grown and roasted right here on the property. We supply the finest coffee making equipment in the unit to compliment our award winning coffee.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank-you so much for making our stay so memorable. We loved everything about our accommodations ... it truly is a paradise. You are both gracious hosts and we appreciated all the fresh fruit, muffins and coffee you brought to us. We will certainly highly recommend your vacation rental to all of our friends and family.

Would it possible for you to forward on the name of that great imported coffee maker that you used to brew our coffee? We made espresso with your 100% Kona coffee on the week-end and it is the best espresso we've had. We can't wait to come back!

Great house, owners, location and view

  • 5 of 5

House was fabulous, had everything we needed and then some. Clean, well stocked, comfortable. Owners were great. We liked being up in the more mountainous part as it was very pretty, lush and cool at night. View was so pretty!

Away From It All

  • 4 of 5

Kona View Estate on the whole is a lovely property. It is exceptionally well provisioned. Literally all we needed to buy for a week's stay were groceries. The property is spacious, immaculate and well-furnished and the hosts are delightful people who gave us a tour of the coffee farm and even roasted coffee beans for us to take home. The pool and hot tub are immaculate and the outdoor furnishings are comfortable. There is certainly room enough for 4 people, but be aware that the second bedroom has only an armoire for clothing storage and the second bathroom is clean and functional but small and located a distance from the guest bedroom.

The property's best feature is its awesome view of the Kona coastline, visible from all the public rooms as well as the lanai!

While the property is one of the nicest we've ever rented in 45 years of Hawaiian vacations, we rated it only 4 stars for rwo reasons. One, because it is somewhat inaccessible if you are not comfortable driving on narrow, winding mountain roads. If you travel the posted speed limit of 25 mph, the road to the house (Mamalahoa Highway) is navigable, but the locals insist on traveling well above the limit and tailgate you unless you yield to them by pulling over on the perilous narrow shoulder. Because Holualoa is upcountry, all roads leading to the Mamalahoa Highway are also steep inclines with lots of twisting turns. Also there are very few streetlights. We found the driving to be unnerving!

Second, the house's location puts it in the path of very humid and rainy weather. It rained every day we were there (June) with only an hour or two of sun in the early morning. Without air conditioning the house was damp, towels never dried, and our clothing felt clammy. To be fair, the owners told us that the continuous rain was unusual.

If you are looking for peace and quiet and a relaxing vacation, Kona View Estate is a good choice.

Owner's Response: Aloha, It was a pleasure having you and your wife stay here and we appreciate your feedback. Concerning Mamalahoa “Highway” - The lack of street lights is ostensibly to keep “light pollution” down for the Mauna Kea observatory. Still more street lights would be a help and it is very dark here at night. The twisty nature is due to the volcanic terrain and the speed limit of 30 (25 near one school) is hard to maintain if you are not familiar with the road. We see signs of real Aloha spirit in driving daily - yielding to others for example - but unfortunately we also see some signs of tailgating up here and in town. Concerning the weather - The weather while you were here was not typical. We do have dehumidifiers in the living room and in the large - open - walk in closet between the master bedroom and bathroom. They normally only get used a few days in August. Coming from very dry Arizona we can understand that you felt rather damp. We have lived here 8 years and have never had more than an occasional issue with dampness and none of our previous guests have commented on this. Concerning the layout: Yes, the second bedroom has only a good size armoire rather than a huge walk in closet like the master bedroom. The second bathroom is located steps down the hall from the second bedroom. It has a shower, sink and toilet as well as a state of the art washer-dryer units. When we have a fifth person sleeping on the pullout couch in the living room - the location of the second bathroom is ideal to separate its use from the second bedroom. The layout of the bathrooms and their sizes are ideal for their intended use. Mahalo, Randy and Atsumi

We can't wait to come back!

  • 5 of 5

5/21/17 - 6/1/17, 4 people

Randy & Atsumi were amazing hosts. The view was to die for. The vista suite was more than well-equipped. We were able to pick and enjoy fresh papaya and flowers from their property. The only bummer was the cloud cover that tends to come in the afternoon up on the hill, but its a worthwhile trade off for the privacy, view, and beauty. A wonderful experience all around!

A Bit of Paradise

  • 5 of 5

Luxury coffee estate does not do this place justice. Randy and Atsumi run a magnificent estate. They were very cordial and greeted us upon our arrival. They were very friendly and took the extra effort to walk us through the entire place and showed us how everything operated. They even did a bit of small shopping for us so we had something for the next morning. They provided us with some of their amazing coffee. There is nothing like fresh Kona coffee, and their coffee is among some of the best we have ever had. They also provided most, if not all essentials (sundries, bathroom products, beach chairs, towels, coolers, etc) We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Randy and Atsumi and would highly recommend this to anyone travelling to the Big Island.

A relaxing vacation with wonderful hosts.

  • 5 of 5

We spent over a week at the coffee estate and would highly recommend it for folks with young kids!

The house was beautiful and relaxing as our children enjoyed swimming in the pool. Conveniently located, we were able to visit the volcano and also go up north with relative ease with plenty of restaurants and stores nearby.

Many thanks to our hosts for a fabulous vacation, wish we could have stayed longer!

Hawaii Vacation Nov 16-29, 2016

  • 5 of 5

I brought my family to residence of Randy and Atsumi over the Thanksgiving Holidays. I found his property on VRBO and was quite impressed with the number of 5 star ratings they received on their stay. I totally agree with them all. We stayed in the main quarters and were very impressed with the cleanliness, layout, and beautiful view one has over the Kailua-Kona shoreline from a coffee plantation! They keep the property in excellent condition and if there is a problem they fix it ASAP. We had a microwave go out and it was immediately replaced. Randy and Atsumi are there if you need them but otherwise maintain a low profile. We had access to a very nice swimming pool, hot tub, and gym most anytime right outside the back door. The neighborhood is quiet, relaxing, and quite charming. Most everything you need is provided from kitchen utensils and a Weber grill down to the beach chairs and snorkeling gear. The Kona coffee they roast on premise is with the very best. One is close to about anything in the Kona area and their residence serves as a base of vacation operations if one wants to explore the entire island which we did. My wife and I stayed with our older sons ages 20 and 24 and they loved it as well. The property can work well with younger children as well.

I highly recommend this VRBO listing to anyone. We did not want to stay in a resort close to the ocean. This beat a seaside hotel from our perspective by 5 times. Staying here helped us see the real Hawaii and we did indeed. Also Randy and Atsumi are very interesting people and you'll enjoy getting to know them.

Mahalo,

Jeff
