About the property

Dixie Farms Plantation is located at the heart of the Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge and approximately 20 minutes north of historic Charleston, South Carolina. This unique getaway is located on the Intracoastal Waterway and consists of 10 acres of land, a comfortable home with wrap-around porches, a private dock, and private boat landing.

The property was first settled by the Shackelford family in the mid 1700's, and several head stones bearing the 'Shackelford' name remain on the property today. The property has been owned by the family of the late Judge Paul A. Foster of Mount Pleasant for nearly 3 decades now.

Situated on the Intracoastal Waterway just south of the scenic fishing village of McClellanville, this property is an outdoorsman's paradise. Travelers from all across the globe visit this unique area to fish for Spottail Bass (Redfish), Trout, Flounder, King Mackerel, Tarpon, Sailfish, Marlin, and an exhaustive list of other species. Hunters make the trip to the Lowcountry of South Carolina to hunt Ducks, Whitetail Deer, Doves, Turkeys, and Wild Hogs.

Others stay with us to visit the untouched, pristine beaches of our barrier islands and view the countless species of flora and fauna. From Dixie Farms Plantation, one can access and experience the natural beauty and bounty of the legendary South Carolina Lowcountry.

Stay at Dixie Farms Plantation just once, and I bet we'll see you for years to come.

PERFECT PLACE & DOWNRIGHT HOSPITABLE !!!!

  • 5 of 5

I can not tell you how wonderful all of the people involved with the Dixie Farm Plantation have been on our recent visit; from the manager, Andy, to folks next door, to groundskeeper, Dale and his wife, Ann, as well.

Before we even got the boat in the water, we had two phone #'s to call for help if we needed it "at anytime."

We have "SeaTow" but were so warmed and overwhelmed by their willingness to be so quick to help us if we got in trouble on the water...that in itself was so impressive and comforting to know. It really says a lot about the people running this place. ON TOP OF THAT, you can't ask for anything more if you are into fishing, shrimping, and relaxing. Everything is so convenient with the dock right on the inter-coastal waterway, AND with our wonderful "government shutdown", causing Buckhall to be closed, the private boat-landing was a Godsend!! Was talking to POP next door about them wanting to 'fancy up" the place and I asked, "Why?" I said, "It is casual, clean, and most comfortable...That is what is so cool about it. It is everything and all you need for having a great fishing , boating, "anything you want to do" and relaxing time. Man we get dirty fishing, and shrimping, and I don't want to have to worry about ruining the "Persian rug!!" It has a great big back porch with tables and chairs, and a swing, and it is perfect for kicking off wet boots and dirty clothes. The house was very clean, and you'll find anything you need in the kitchen. This place is perfect for a bunch of fishing buddies, or for families. We will most definitely be back!!! " Thanks," Andy, and everyone, especially Dale, who was always checking to see if everything was OK, and if we needed anything at all... Feel like we made friends for life. Just a wonderful place with folks serving up a super healthy dose of hospitality.... LOVED THE PLACE !!!

Best Deal in the Lowcountry

  • 5 of 5

Dixie Farms Plantation offers the fishing enthusiasts the ultimate vacation opportunity in the Lowcountry. It is a short drive from Charleston yet you feel like you are miles away from civilization. The minute you arrive at Dixie you want to throw a line in the water. You can enjoy fishing, shrimping, crabbing, etc. from the dock or in the pristine estuaries of Bulls Bay and Cape Romain. I have visited Dixie often and will continue to do so in the future. I have never had anything but pleasant memories. The Rowland families are gracious enough to share this piece of heaven with the public and everyone should take advantage of this opportunity.

True Lowcountry Feel

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at Dixie Farms 3 years running. If you are into watersports, look no further. The house sits right on the Intracoastal Waterway. The reason we stay at Dixie Farms is to experience the abundance of fishing spots. Literally, minutes from the private dock, we were able to wear the fish out. Is there such a thing as catching too many fish? I never heard anyone tell me they got sick of catching fish until we stayed at Dixie Farms. Bottom line: the fishing was awesome and the house is perfect. It's casual, not stuffy, and has plenty of room. The kitchen has everything you'll need while being away from your home. The house was clean and fresh when we arrived. This is a place where you can relax in a simple environment and enjoy the natural treasures of life.

We are already looking forward to another stay at Dixie Farms in 2013. So, if you're tired of the same old routine of staying in a place where you're ready to leave by the third day, then give Dixie Farms a try. I promise, you'll be glad you did. Leave your tuxedo at home, it won't do you any good Dixie Farms!

Becoming a Family Tradition

  • 5 of 5

June 16 to 6/23 We had another great week at Dixie Farms Plantation for the 2nd year in a row and are planning on a return trip latter this year. Having our boat at the dock allows us to go fishing, going to an an isolated beach to your self for shelling, swimming and great place for lunch. If you have any questions Andy and Teddy are always ready to give their advice and assist you as needed. Going to try shrimping this fall can’t wait!!!

Very Accomodating

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Dixie Farms Plantation was VERY last minute. We thought we had another place lined up but it fell through the night before we were supposed to leave. When I talked to Andy he said he had just had a cancellation and though he didn't normally do this, he would let us have the place for only three days, instead of the week that is usually required. I know for him three days is better than nothing, but I was so so so thankful to Andy that our mini-vacation wasn't ruined. When we got there everyone was super nice and helpful and the house was very nice. The screened in back porch is wonderful and it was nice to have our own dock and boat launch. Unfortunately, our boat broke down, but Andy's father (who lives next door) came and towed us in. We would have been stranded without him! Despite this minor setback we still had a great time. I would definitely recommend this place!

Owner's Response: Thanks so much for your gracious comments. The formula at DFP is pretty simple - We want you to have a great time, so we can earn another repeat customer. I know that Dad was happy to tow you back in that first day out. There's nothing more frustrating than losing precious moments of your vacation dealing with an outboard motor. We look forward to seeing you again real soon. Please share your experience with someone that you think might need a little therapy time at DFP. Thanks again, Andy

A Real Lowcountry Experience

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at DFP was amazing. We drove all the way from Mt. Pleasant to get one of the most amazing weekends enjoying what the Lowcountry is really all about....boating, fishing, weather, and just relaxing on the dock with family and friends. We caught flounder and cooked them for dinner. We had a "true" blue crab boil that was some of the best weI've ever eaten. The house was clean and well-maintained. One of the owners was there to welcome us and assured us if there was anything we needed we could call him anytime but that was not necessary. It was everything we expected and more...we can't wait to go back.
