Originally built and designed for our own family, this unique and beautiful home on Pierce Pond truly is a “dream” home. It is situated on the edge of one of the most peaceful ponds in Downeast Maine. Shared with loons, herons, bald eagles and jumping wide mouth bass, Pierce Pond is one of the few bodies of fresh water that is not lined with camps and houses! And it’s also close to the magnificent coast. In 10 short minutes you can be in downtown Blue Hill or Castine and a ½ mile walk takes you to Northern Bay on the Penobscot coast.
As you enter, you will immediately capture the incredible views. The open floor plan has a large custom kitchen with granite tile countertop, stainless steel appliances and breakfast bar/island. A fieldstone fireplace graces the living room and two large sliders open up the living and dining room to the covered wrap-around porch. To the right of the entrance are closets, a large tiled mud room for washer and dryer, a full bath and access to an oversized two-car garage. First floor has radiant heat.
An elegant open maple stair case leads you to the second floor where there are 4 bedrooms and 2 full baths. The master bedroom has its own master bath with 2 pedestal sinks, cathedral ceiling with pine, huge closets and sliders that open out to a balcony with one of the best views in the house. Three more bedrooms all with maple floors and another full bath are laid out to maximize the view.
The walkout basement is finished with maple floors and a beautiful fieldstone hearth with wood stove. It is set up as a den with lovely windows and French doors that lead to the pond for swimming, kayaking and paddle boarding.

My husband and I and our two children moved here in 2003. We are often pinching ourselves when we sit down and gaze over peaceful Pierces Pond. The tranquility here is difficult to describe. We chose this spot so that we could spend our summers swimming in the clean, fresh pond and still be close to the coast. Every summer we love to celebrate the return of the loons. They stay on the pond from early April to mid October. Bon fires and long days of swimming, sailing, kayaking and hiking are our favorite times here.
Joanne LaCarrubba Steenberg purchased this house in 2004
For its peace and tranquility.
Good clean water for swimming, and safe body of water for kayaking, sailing and paddleboarding.
We were four adults and two children. This was a perfect three generation spot for us. Our kids (9 & 11) swam all day every day. Us parents enjoyed the lake, swimming, hanging on the dock and taking early morning walks right from the house into the surrounding hills and blueberry fields. The grandparents soaked it all in from the deck overlooking it all.
The house itself feels airy and is very clean. All hardwood. Plenty of space. The beds are very comfortable. We love to cook and were happy to find a kitchen well equipped and a good outdoor grill. The owners are very friendly and helpful.
The only downside is the house lacks the sweeping views you might get with a place on the coast. But you cannot swim like this in the sea. And the quiet is wonderful. No lobster boats at five in the morning.
The lake is only about a half mile across and relatively shallow - but plenty deep to swim. The water is warm and very tranquil. Because it is small there were no motorboats. The dock faces west. Beautiful sunsets.
This was our second stay at Dragonfly Cove. The owners are kind, warm and helpful. The house is beautiful and well maintained, bedding and furniture is very comfortable. The house is perfectly isolated, yet close to small towns like Blue Hill and Castine, both are wonderful to visit. There is a small store just down the road run by friendly locals. We rented kayaks from The Activity Shop in Blue Hill. They deliver and pick up and also are very friendly (book in advance). The pond is great for swimming and kayaking. If you want a chance to reconnect with family, friends, and nature, this is a great spot. We have two teenagers and both times we have visited, they have told us that this is their favorite vacation! Acadia is about an hour away and a must see, but there are also plenty of closer hikes. It is such a peaceful place and I am thankful they are able to share it.
This house was perfect for a family with two active boys (9 and 11) during our first trip to Maine. We were able to swim in the pond, lounge in the hammocks, fish, have a bonfire, play ping-pong, hike, and just relax and read. The wrap around porch was a lovely place to sit and look at the pond while reading and enjoying a drink. The homeowners provided all of the information we needed to plan a wonderful week of activities, including restaurant and grocery store locations, sites to see, and even a wonderful and reasonably priced place to rent a kayak. The pond has lots of great wildlife, including a family of loons, turtles, and bass. There is only one other home on the pond, so it is like having your own private lake.
The house was located about an hour away from Acadia National Park. Close enough that we were able to make the trip there twice (once for the Park Loop and Bar Harbor, and the second to bike the carriage roads). In the other direction is Stonington and Deer Isle (which is a beautiful Lobstering town). Not far from the house is Castine, and even closer is Blue Hill. Everywhere you went the views were breathtaking.
The house itself had a beautiful kitchen with all of the pots, dish ware, and utensils you would need. Nearby, there’s a wonderful grocery store (Tradewinds) with an abundant selection of organic products (which was essential for my son with multiple food allergies). While there was just four of us, there was enough room to sleep more.
We were happy to put our cellphones down for the week and disconnect from the world. We were sad to leave and plan to return again. I would highly recommend this home.
We were looking forward to our week in Maine as we rented a house there for the first time. Before when in Maine we stayed in hotels or camps. And we think we made a perfect choice renting this house!
A bouquet of flowers was waiting for us as we arrived along with some samples of local made granola and maple sirup - what a nice touch!
It was a bit difficult to find the house as we made a turn from the main road - the GPS was not helpful. So have the directions to the house given by the owners printed - you may have difficulty logging on to the internet.
There is Wi-Fi in the house that works well.
The house itself is relatively new and kept really well. The furniture is very tasteful and sturdy - it is important! - we all know how old unsteady chairs or beds can spoil the stay in a rental house. But not here! The linens and towels were all pleasant to use. And all the rugs were nice to step on.
There are lots of little towns to explore nearby. Many within a 30 minutes driving distance. Acadia National Park is about an hour away - more or less. Still we went there 3 or 4 times to spend the whole day.
It was great to start the day with a morning swim and to end it with a swim lighted by the moon and the stars. The location of the house is very private and gives you such a different feeling especially if compared to the busy city. Isn't that's why we come to such places anyway?
The owners were very helpful with everything we had to know about the house, property and always available - only a telephone call away. Their advice about where to go and what to see was greatly appreciated by us.
A very nice store with a little of everything - food and non-food items - is nearby. Also right there is a gas station - very important for us because we drove around a lot!!!
We wholeheartedly recommend this house and would love to return there someday!
This was really the perfect house for our family of four to get away and spend time together. It is in a gorgeous part of the state. The landscape is hilly with lush greenery everywhere. There are nice hikes around the area. If you want to see the coast, there are opportunities in every direction. Blue Hill is a lovely town to explore nearby. The pond is lovely and peaceful. Our kids spent hours swimming and kayaking (we brought our own). There are just a handful of houses on the entire pond, so there is not the boat traffic that one sometimes encounters on Maine lakes.
My wife and I really appreciated the house and its furnishings. It is in a lovely forest setting and very private. The decorating is contemporary and tasteful. The kitchen had everything we wanted. It was impeccably clean.
The owner who welcomed us was very personable and we knew she was nearby. We didn’t feel the need to contact her, however, because the house had everything we wanted.
Very nice comfortable house in very quite setting. A perfect place to relax, away from it all. The pond is warm enough to swim and kids actually caught a bass there (let it go). We loved wild raspberry growing next to the house and little hiking trail. If you plan to go to Acadia - the drive is rather long with traffic, almost an hour. The cons are: it was a bit hard to find the house and cell phone reception is a bit spotty.
This house offers unique sightings of bald eagles, herons, loons and other wonderful birds.
