Gorgeous Spot

  • 5 of 5

If you're looking for spectacular vistas, this property and has a gorgeous view of the water with Mt. Desert Island in the distance! The house is old but clean and has most of the amenities you would expect, including a well-stocked kitchen. The downstairs bathroom is the only room that seemed to be in need of a really good scrub.

We spent most of our time outside of the house playing in the yard, sitting on the front porch, and exploring the shore and surrounding woods. My kids delighted in picking blueberries from the property in mid-to-late July. Acadia National Park, Perry's Lobster Shack, and nearby Ellsworth were favorite driving destinations. This is really a great place to "Get away from it all" and it was hard to leave, especially after many days of great weather. We'd love to come back again!

Quiet beauty

  • 4 of 5

Charming classic house with room for a big family and abundant outdoor space. Worth the drive away from the bustle, this nicely stocked house had lots of beds and common areas, but we likely the screened-in porch and paths to the water. It was a calm place to relax with access to the bay for kayaking and a little splashing in the water (albeit a little early in the season for the water to warm up when we went). While a little further from Bar Harbor than we'd anticipated, it wasn't a bad hop into the nearby towns for provisions and some nice restaurants.

Great vacation!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Maine Stay was wonderful. I think the seaside porch was occupied by at least one person during every daylight hour, drinking in the view and the sounds. We had a lovely paddle from the beach around a nearby island, sharing the experience with a loon and some porpoises. The garden was a delight, and the lawn is perfect for bocce. We loved the walk through the woods to the beach on the far side.

We ate every meal at the table on the side porch, enjoying the view and the Maine air. The kitchen is incredibly well-furnished with everything a cook could need. The microwave died while we were there, and the property manager provided amazing service, coming over with a new microwave the next day! We hope to come again!

What a gem!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Maine Stay was magical. Each day began with a cup of the tea sitting on the front stoop listening to the birds and gazing out over the bay. Even the foggy mornings were great as I watched the fog lift. Spring is a bit chillier than summer might be, but the lilacs, lupine, and rhodadendron were blooming and made it so beautiful. One chilly evening we had a lovely fire in the fireplace as we played cards. Very relaxing. There is so much to see and do in the area that I feel like we barely scratched the surface. We were fortunate to be here for the opening of Pugnuts Ice Cream in Surry Village. Odd name (it turns out the owners love their pugs and the pugs love ice cream) but I predict it will be a winner. The Blood Orange sorbet was to die for and I had to bring a pint of Chocolate gelato home with me. One of our favorite days was walking through the woods to get to the west shore and watching the lobster boats pull their traps. It was so peaceful. We hope to return at a different time of year to enjoy all the area has to offer.

Well worth the long journey

  • 5 of 5

We all very much enjoyed our time at Maine Stay. There is something truly serene and peaceful about being there. The house was very comfortable and roomy. There is a quite a bit to explore both in the immediate area and around Blue Hill as well. We especially appreciated the hiking trails and proximity to the water. I was truly impressed with how welcome we were all made to feel. We all hope to return one day.
