Cozy Lakefront Cottage White Mountain Area on Lake Gardner

Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Cottage, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1 Bath, (Sleeps 6-8)

This is a cozy cottage sitting directly on the shore of private Lake Gardner on top of Mount Gardner in Bath NH. Both a screened porch and an open deck provide fantastic views of the lake and surrounding mountain area. This is a private area that feels remote, but is not far from necessary shopping area and restaurants.

The upstairs bedroom has a queen bed, the downstairs has two singles and one fold down double bed. There is a sleep sofa in the living room as well.

Local attractions are Lost River caves, Williams Trading Post, the oldest general store in America, Six Gun City, Santa's Village, the Whales Tale water park, and the aerial tramway.

Hiking and just relaxing on our beautiful private lake are our favorite activities!

About Jane Warren

I am a business owner who lives in Massachusetts, but love to get away to the White Mountains for rest and relaxation. I have a local property manager and cleaning service for the benefit of my tenants if anything is required. I like to rent the cottage to people who respect the property and the quiet location.

Jane Warren purchased this cottage in 1986

Why Jane Warren chose Bath

I originally purchased this property for my own use, but as I seem to have less and less time for vacationing, I decided to rent the cottage during times that I will not be occupying it.

What makes this cottage unique

This is a great place to de stress from the hectic world! The forest and the lake are wonderful surroundings, away from city and town life. Bath is close by for shopping, restaurants, groceries, and laundry. One of my favorite places is Lost River caves which is close by, but there are many beautiful spots. The Fall is also a great time to visit.

Guestbook comments from the owner

I have always wanted to stay in a rustic cabin with a screen porch overlooking a lake. After serching on Craigs List I found this place and it was what I was looking for. It is a simple cabin with two decent size bedrooms. It has a nice large claw foot tub for a good soak. There are some floaties and a aluminum row boat. The lake itself is very serene and warm to swim in. No motor boats! Very quiet and peaceful, especially nice to sit on the screen poarch and watch the moon come up over the water. I even saw a loon one morning.

The living room and kichen are tiled in Mexican tile. You must bring your own sheets, towels and blankets which I like to do anyway cause I like my own stuff. It is really out of the way but only minutes to a little town with all you need and we took some great trips to through the White Mountain region, also close. It is simple and rustic which I like but if you need luxury, it may not be for you. The kitchen is fully equiped so no need to bring pots and pans.

All in all, a good place to relax and get away from it all; lovely for swimming.

The perfect place to stay and relax

  • 5 of 5

When I arrived at the property I was amazed at how beautiful the location was in person! The view of the lake was breath taking and the area itself was the perfect place to relax. The Property was clean, adorable and decorated nicely. The screened in deck was well kept and my favorite place to wake up and watch the sunrise over the lake.

This place is a great place to disconnect and relax with nature, but close enough to local attractions such as Clarkes Trading Post or Storyland that it really is the perfect place to go for a vacation, even with kids! I would recommend anyone who is looking for a beautiful place to stay in New Hampshire to check this place out!

Great cottage inside, but the outside needs help

  • 3 of 5

We stayed here for 5 nights in August. On the positive side, the cottage was in a perfect remote location free from any cell service. The lake is small and we hardly saw anyone else on the lake, which was great. The cottage itself is exactly as described, the screened in porch is a perfect spot to eat meals and watch a rain storm over the lake. We did well fishing, and really appreciated being away from it all. All the other houses on the road were well kept, neighbors were friendly. There was a great walk around the lake (on the road). There was also a great hike for kids about 3 minutes away (Mount Gardner lone oak trail). This was a fabulous hike.

On the not so positive side: the house was infested with spiders (seriously everywhere you looked was a spider web). This didn't affect our vacation, but could be an easy fix. Most importantly the outside needs a lot of help. There was a lot of trash and cigarette butts all over. The grass was as tall as my son and obviously hadn't been mowed in a very long time. The floating dock was barely usable, and my kids got some splinters from climbing out of the lake (dock was falling apart). The small sandy area COULD have been a great place for kids to play in the lake, but it was filled with sharp rocks, concrete pieces, trash, and broken bricks. We could only access the lake by swimming off the dock, which was difficult with small children. If the sandy area was cleaned up, it would be a great area for kids to play. Also, the boat and canoe were not usable with broken oars (and they looked in pretty rough shape). The fire pit does not face the lake, and had glass and trash in it.

This cottage has a lot of potential if some work is done to the outside. I would definitely stay at this lake again but not at this house unless the outside is renovated.

Long weekend getaway

  • 3 of 5

Very rustic, clean and comfortable. The lake was so quite and clean. We did need to get propane for the grill but Walmart was not far away. The guys caught lots of fish, big and small. We bought fire wood at the ice cream place not far away. Check out the covered bridge in town, very cool.

Wonderfully relaxing weekend

  • 4 of 5

Great location- lake is private & quiet. Screened-in porch was perfect. Cottage has a bit of a "rustic" flavor, which was just fine by us. Definitely wish we could have stayed longer!

We enjoyed the location and the peace and quiet the property provided. The view was postcard like but the house needs some attention. Its hard to believe someone even checked on the house before we arrived. Many lights inside the house were not working. TV remotes upstairs were not working. . The gas grill tank was empty. And then was told we need to fill it if we want to use it. I feel if the owner has a gas grill there for us to use the tank should be filled.

I love fishing so i spent alot of time in the boat provided by the owner. But couldnt of been more annoyed with the fact that the row boat had one working oar and one was brocken and the oar locks would not stay in place making rowing impossible.

There was also a kayak there to use. Never seen a kayak like that. Very old and to small to hold a child let alone an adult. And no kayak paddles only canoe paddles. We made the best of our time there. It was still enjoyable but could of been exceptional with some attention to the rental property

Owner's Response: Thank you for the review. I am sorry there was a broken oar, on your arrival. I will have that replaced asap . The kayak was not listed for tenant use because, as you say, its kind of an odd duck of a boat! I will restock with light bulbs and batteries for the remote. There should have been supplies in the kitchen closet, but we will check Gas is a consumable, and like food and drinking water is not provided. Some people use the gas grill and some don't. Most people will use whats there and refill if needed in town for $20. If that was an inconvenience or an unexpected cost to you, I am more than willing to refund the filling fee. I am reachable by phone and have both a local cleaning service and a property manger who could easily have provided batteries, light bulbs, and replacement oars during your stay, thereby preventing any inconvenience. No reason to be dissatisfied during your stay for items like these. Glad you enjoyed the fishing, its great! Jane
