House, 3 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 8)
Eastport, Maine - The Riviera, named for the old Riviera Packing Company, where sardines and tuna were packed in days gone by, is a newly-renovated premier waterfront property.
The original brick structure houses two bedrooms. The wooden addition features a wall of glass bringing the outdoors in by overlooking the waters of Passamaquoddy Bay. There is an open concept living room and dining area with a fireplace to ward of the cool Maine evenings.
There is also a den/game room downstairs where the brick wall has been exposed and one wall is whimsically painted with chalkboard paint. A kitchen with oiled mahogany countertops and open shelving and a bathroom with a claw-foot tub and washer and dryer are also on the first floor. Upstairs is an open area with two twin beds, another bedroom and a second bathroom with a shower.
Downeast Maine is where the sun rises first so make sure to watch a sunrise while you're here from the deck where whales swim by and porpoise frolic.

Peaceful
We loved staying here. The house looks exactly like the pictures. We spent a lot of time just sitting and watching the bay, the tide going in and out, the birds and even a few minke whales and harbor seals. Clarks Head Ledge, the rocks visible from the house, was fascinating to watch appearing and disappearing as the tide came in and went out. We loved how the house was decorated and were very comfortable. You need to be looking for a peaceful quiet place to enjoy this house. Not much to do in town except boat rides and ice cream. Bring books and binoculars.
Wonderful house in a wonderful town
We stayed at the Riviera for a week from July 21st to the 28th. It is really the perfect house in a perfect location in Eastport. The house will sleep 8, but we had 5 adults, so the two bunk beds were not used. It has in essence two wings with two bedrooms each, so it is great for two families to share. There is the back section, that was once part of the Riviera Packing Co. It is built on old brick. This includes a living room with only theTV in the house (you don't need it with the wonderful view.) The other area is the front section and it is new construction. In the new section is a small well equipped kitchen (no dishwasher, but everyone pitched in to help) and a glassed open area that has a dinning area and sitting area with fireplace. This looks out on the bay where we saw plenty of wild life, including harbor seals and fins of porpoises. Off this area is a new deck added just this May with chairs and a picnic table.
For anyone with problems with stairs, all of the bedrooms require negotiating stairs. The back section is only half a flight. I would recommend a hand rail on the front stairs.
The Riviera is within walking distance of downtown Eastport and only a few blocks from The Chowder House. Eastport itself is a wonderfully friendly place to visit. Everyone was open and welcoming. We attended an author reading at the Peavey Library by Sarah Graves. It was fantastic to meet one of our favorite authors who livse right there in Eastport.
If you are looking for a relaxing place to spend a summer week, go to The Riviera and Eastport, ME.
