Breathtaking Ocean Front Home! Gorgeous Views from Every Room!

Bedrooms 3

Space 2,800 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 5 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms + Bunk Area, 3.5 Baths, (Sleeps 6-8)

We invite you to escape to this beautiful, very private traditional Ocean Front Hawaiian home, just minutes from downtown Kona and a wide variety of other attractions.

This 2850 square foot home is perfect for family gatherings with a large master bedroom, a queen-bed bedroom, a 'bonus room' with bunk beds, and two and half baths. There is an additional studio-style 'ohana' (apartment) that is attached to the main house that has a queen bed, private bath, kitchen, washer/dryer and private entrance. The home is furnished in a comfortable, casual Hawaiian theme...some of the furniture is hand-made by Hawaiian artists. There are ceiling fans throughout the house. The kitchen is well-appointed with everything necessary to cook and then some, such as a blender, rice cooker, etc.

Open the French doors that stretch across the front of the home to allow in the Trade Winds, a wonderful respite from A/C. During the day, take a trip to the volcano, go whale-watching, visit the restaurants and shops of downtown Kona, or go deep-sea fishing. There are fascinating tide pools in the lava rocks right behind the house that are home to sea turtles, crustaceans, and an abundance of small fish. This house is a short walk from the sandy beaches of Magic Sands, or a half mile drive to the protected lagoon known for snorkeling. Be prepared to see gorgeous fish and gentle sea turtles!

Make sure to be home in the early evening, around 6pm, to relax in the hammock or on the lounge furniture and catch the famous Hawaiian sunset while drinking a Mai Tai! (see recipe below). During the winter months, watch carefully for the migrating humpback whales that swim. and sometimes breach, right in front of the house. If you're not in the mood to make your own Mai Tai, walk two doors down to Jameson's restaurant, which has a five star ocean view and wonderful food.

At night, each bedroom is filled with the sounds of waves crashing onto the lava rocks. This property is gated and walled which lets you relax and think of nothing but being part of a tropical paradise.

About Kathy Johns

We love to travel and of course, stay in nice places. Over the years, we've taken our 2 children many places they'll never forget. We hope our Kona beach home will become one of those unforgettable memories in your travels as well.

Kathy Johns purchased this house in 1999

Why Kathy Johns chose Kailua-Kona

We came to Kona and fell in love with it, now we would like to share that with you.

What makes this house unique

It could not be more ocean-front than this, watching sea turtles, tropical birds, dolphins and whales while eating breakfast, remaining in the United States but feeling like you are a world away.

Guestbook comments from the manager

I wanted to thank you for the fantastic accommodations during our recent stay in Kona. They exceeded our expectations, and we did not miss a single sunset…and the sea turtles even showed up a few times!

I will definitely be in touch if my travels take me to the Big Island again!

Location, location, location - Fantastic!

Kathy the property owner and her caretaker Gina were absolutely fantastic to work with - Kathy was so kind as we were literally flying in at the peak of hurricane Lane. The home was ready for us and she left several flashlight lanterns, as well as water for any instance of emergency. There was plenty of room for all. Our son thoroughly enjoyed the private, connected studio. The girls shared the bunk room. The master bedroom was lovely, well appointed with an attached bath that was perfect. The other bedroom suited my husband and I just fine. The kitchen had all you could need or want. Kathy also had an abundance of outdoor gear, snorkeling, boogie boards, beach towels, BBQ, lounge chairs, umbrellas and more.

We arrived from LAX via Kauai after a week in Poipu. We had been unsure of flights due to the hurricane, she and I stayed in close communication and her even keel, calm, cool, collected self certainly helped keep my stress levels down as we knew Kathy had her home ready for us. The first couple days were stormy as was to be expected - Mother nature at her finest. Then as it cleared to the lovely Kona our family knows and loves the turtles and sea life came to life just off the patio/lounge area that was essentially our front yard during our stay. At one point there were seven Honu (turtles) frolicking in the surf - Lovely to witness. I can not say enough about Kathy the owner and Gina her caretaker - This home was beautiful, peaceful, private, comfortable - Perfect! We plan on checking in with Kathy next summer to see if we could again stay in her lovely home, if available... You can not go wrong.

Aloha Kona till next year - Mahalo Kathy, and Gina, The Webber Family.

Owner's Response: I am so glad you and your family enjoyed your Hawaii trip - it most certainly occurred at a trying time with Hurricane Lane looming next to you! I appreciate your kind comments and will certainly pass them on to Gina - whom I couldn't do without! Mahalo and hope you can return next year! Kathy

The Kona family vacation

  • 4 of 5

We (our family of 8) thoroughly enjoyed our 10 days at your sea-side home with the waves crashing into the lava rock, the sea turtles in the small cove, the spinner porpoises doing their dances out in front of the cove. And the sunsets, my the sunsets-one that the locals were saying was the most spectacular they had ever seen(combination of the lava flow and hurricane Hector (which missed us). I do think the interior of the house is getting tired and the gate could be fixed to roll vertically on rales. For us, however, it worked out perfectly to explore the West Side of the Big Island-many beaches.

Thank you!

Fantastic place to stay

  • 5 of 5

This home is outstanding. Eight of us, 5 adults and 3 girls stayed there for a week and a half. The home is clean, had plenty of room for all of us and the most beautiful lanai that is right on the waterfront. We saw turtles every day, a couple eels and a school of yellow tangs (bright yellow tropical fish) from the lanai. The girls loved it there. Beautiful sunsets with waves crashing up to the wall. There were snorkels, masks, beach chairs, a cooler provided.....all the things you need. There's a "locals" beach one house away and next to that the Magic Sands beach, so if you don't feel like driving you can still have some beach time. Its a three mile walk into downtown for those who like to walk and a farmers type market one mile down the road. I stayed in the Ohana apt which was perfect for this grandma. Had my own kitchen and bathroom and door.

I totally recommend this house to anyone who needs a large house. I think that lanai was a highlight of the trip for me.......a beautiful place to relax.

Couldn’t have asked for more!

  • 5 of 5

Just got home from an incredible 11 days with my family in a beautiful ocean front home. You can’t beat the view and experience. The ocean is right there! Pretty much we lived outside on the enormous lanai and BBQ’d everything we could think of. With four bedrooms and 3 1/2 baths we had tons of space for everyone. Disappointment is impossible if you are looking for a relaxing vacation with incredible views. Magic Sands beach is a 1 minute walk away and you are only a few miles from downtown. We had an incredible time!

Tide pools with fish and sea turtles right off back wall. Walk to Magic Sands beach, 3 minutes away. We are very close, less than half mile away, to a beautiful public beach with protected lagoon for swimming and snorkeling.
