The perfect spot for a family vacation or a romantic getaway, this four-bedroom home in Georgetown, Maine, has panoramic views of the Sheepscot River, Five Islands Harbor and out to sea. From your bedroom, you can watch seals basking on nearby rocks and osprey building their nests in the bay. The living room has a working fireplace, and the deck receives glorious light from dusk till dawn. The house also has two bathrooms, a dining room, a full-equipped kitchen, and a brand new washer and dryer. The spectacular views are seen from all rooms. During the day, you’ll soak in the splendor of the Maine coast—canoeing, hiking, beach and fresh water swimming and lounging in the sun—and at night, the sound of the waves will lull you to sleep.

My wife and two older dogs spent a week here. While we have spent time on the south coast of Maine, this was our first trip to Mid-coast Maine. It was a wonderful introduction. The first impression after the hustle and bustle of the southern beaches is that this is sure isolated. You are about 20 minutes from Bath and all its restaurants and stores.. Perhaps because we live in the country ourselves, those reservations quickly melted and it soon felt like home. I love to cook, so I prepared all our breakfasts and dinners in the well appointed kitchen and ate them in the comfortable dining room. Large windows in the front and side of the house take full advantage of the spectacular views of the river and bay, all the way out to the ocean. A nice screened in porch complements the deck. As it was past bug season, we preferred sitting on the deck. In fact, my favorite day was one the only time we drove was to the dump, and the rest of the time we languidly sat on the deck or house and enjoyed the serenity of lobster and pleasure boats coming and going, the seagulls overhead, the diving ducks, and just watching the tide come and go framed by the blue sky and clouds. There are two masters with queen beds that each have great views of the water, and two other bedrooms if you need them. Missed no TV during playoff baseball season, but you can't have everything. We definitely enjoyed lots of time to read. The lobster pound up the road was only open weekends, but we did take advantage of that by sharing a big boy on our first and last nights. What really impressed me too was that in this seemingly remote spot, you can still get to many of the mid coast attractions in an hour or less, and Camden in less than an hour and a half. The internet is very fast and reliable too. All the amenities are here. No nickel and dining you on salt or water or anything else. We had the pleasure of meeting the owners the last day when they came up and stayed at their house next door. Betsy has been part of the Five Islands community all her life. We'll be back for sure.
Beautiful, well equipped home close to so many great attractions! We spent a wonderful week looking out at the osprey's nest and watching the lobster boats come in!
This proved a wonderful rental for our (one day) family reunion / lobster feed and a legitimate vacation getaway for myself and my husband (with several return visits for a local offspring) the remainder of the week. Our main course was provided ready-to-eat by the conveniently located Five Islands Lobster Co. a few minutes away, which proved to be a great go-to destination for an evening stroll and ice cream on the dock. One could not improve on the beautiful Maine coast view, from both land and water (kayaks), and the local doe which both startled and was startled several times on the hillside between deck and water was yet another reminder that we were not in "Kansas" anymore.
The beds were comfortable, as even my elderly mother who spent a night with us will agree, and the limited boat traffic in front of the cottage was welcome entertainment for those less able to amble down to the dock. Some nooks and crannies of the house which might not always get good use through the year (corners of window seats, windows) did find some web-comfy creatures disturbed during our stay, but were overall not the big attraction. Also, providing linens for renters' use would improve on the overall experience here.
One note to kayakers: The current up river, between McMahon Island and the Southern end of Westport Island heading to Robin Hood Cove showed some "determination" at times, so unless you are a strong paddler, planning excursions here around slack tide might be wise.
Over all we are grateful for the wonderful week this rental provided.
My husband and I, along with my brother and sister-in-law, decided to get away for a mid week lobster fest. We found the home to be exactly as described and the pictures accurately depicted both inside and out. Bought our lobster "right off the boat" every afternoon, about a five minute walk from the house. Fabulous! Cooked them at home in a well stocked kitchen, including assortment of spices, which we really appreciated. The views from inside the house and the front porch are spectacular. The lack of a television was not a problem...sat in front of the fire and talked. Spent a few hours the first day having lunch in a waterfront restaurant and exploring the Maritime Museum in Bath and the second day went to L L Bean in Freeport which also has some high end outlet stores across the street.
We've traveled all fifty states & most all Canadian provinces, and if you're looking for a truly beautiful, quiet, layed back, comfortable vacation spot; this is it. The pictures & description are right on, and the owner is a delight. Just don't tell too many of your friends: we want to be able to book it ourselves!
My family rented this home along with my brother's family, and we had a magical time. The house was roomy and comfortable for the whole group of us. The views were mesmerizing. We spent many hours just looking at the water, the islands, and the changes in the light. When the weather was warm, we soaked up sun on the deck. When it got cold, we enjoyed a fire in the fireplace, and card games around the roomy dining table. The kitchen was well stocked, and everyone - from 20 somethings, to us older folks - had a wonderful time. We loved Reed State Park, we enjoyed delicious meals, we frequented the tiny organic food store up the road, and of course we ate too much lobster right on the dock. Fantastic vacation home.
Excursion boat rides available locally as well as from Bath and relatively nearby Boothbay. Kayak rentals locally available. Botanical Gardens near Boothbay an easy trip.
