Why The Owner chose San Francisco Bay Area

We chose Dillon Beach and this house because of it's unhurried, friendly, easy relaxed feel and the great views of incoming waves from the house & the expansive ocean panorama. After about a year working on weekends, the house has been renovated into a comfortable retreat with new furnishings.

The area is relatively undiscovered and far enough off busy Hwy 1 not to be touristy like Stinson Beach or other beach towns full of cars and traffic and it's only about a 1 hour drive from San Francisco. Surrounded by a pristine natural coastline and trails, it's an incredibly relaxing and easy escape from the city and hot Sacramento summers. The sunsets over the ocean and star filled night skies are amazing too. The cool nights and sound of the crashing waves make for an incredibly deep night's sleep as well.

We regularly stay at the beach house when it isn't rented and are continually making sure everything is in order, stocked up and maintained.

What makes this house unique

Staying at the beach is magical - picnics, sandcastles, body surfing and uncomplicated fun. It's a chance to slow down, relax and be together to relish life for a few days and relive fond memories of going to the beach as a kid.

Guestbook comments from the owner

What can we say - this was a most beautiful stay, made more memorable by the incredible view, the tasteful aesthetic of the decor, and the spirit of so many happy and thoughtful visitors who have stayed in your lovely home. A wonderful and restful, peaceful respite for the aches of the world not too distant (sadly) - It is very important to know there are such places as this!

Lovely house - beautiful beach;

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay here over the 4th of July. The home is gracious and well maintained and appointed, and the rooms, amenities, etc. are as advertised. The path to the beach one house away. We enjoyed that the kitchen, living room and dining area are all integrated into one space, with a nice ocean view. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Quiet, majestic , stunning Dillon Beach!

  • 5 of 5

We've travelled extensively along the California coast, staying in multiple VRBO homes and Dillon beach is amazing! The house is perfect and very comfortable. We cooked gourmet dinners, had every tool we needed. It's an ideal layout, upstairs and downstairs bed and baths offer privacy. The deck and view are spectacular. Jerry was fast and efficient in communicating with us, check in and check out could not have been easier. Everything is explained clearly, flawless attention to detail. This home, in this special neighborhood is the quietest place we've ever been too. Truly, the only sound we heard is the ocean! Not a car, not a dog barking, total peace and quiet! As beach homes go, this is as relaxing as it gets. Thank you Jerry!

Traveller's notes: If you need groceries, Valley Ford market is just 12 minutes away. Want a nice dinner out? Terrapin Creek cafe in Bodega Bay is excellent. Be sure to check hours of any business in this gorgeous remote area. Not everything is open every day/night.

Haven above the waves

  • 5 of 5

We stayed 2 nights in this lovely home. We enjoyed the western facing living room that warmed up nicely in the late afternoon when we returned from the beach on these windy days. The path down to the beach is a typical coastal access and doable for most folks. It was also lovely to spend time on the protected deck area for our morning tea, as the sun warmed us and to visit its open view of the midnight sky to see the vast array of stars at night. Little details reflected the owner's care, and the beds were comfortable. The ocean view is interrupted by a few houses though it is still quite the panorama. The sauna added a sweet bonus to our stay. We look forward to returning to this Scandinavian haven.

Relaxing place to make great family memories!

  • 5 of 5

Truly a wonderful experience we had. From the moment you walk in the house everything is labeled clearly with specific instructions to help you have a smooth stay. The view was breath taking and the sounds of the waves crashing at night was amazing. Great place to star gaze too. Kitchen was stocked with everything we needed. Highly reccomend staying here!!

Girls' Weekend

  • 4 of 5

Our girls’ weekend got off to a rocky start; when we arrived there was no key in the lock box due to a housekeeper mix up. As there is minimal phone signal in Dillon it was necessary to drive several miles to call the landlords and then again later to check for responses. The contract had a land line number listed (left messages) and a “no longer in service” number. It was almost 3 hours, locked out, and we’d given up and were on our way back home before we received the alternative access instructions.

After 3+ hours, we were finally in the house and relaxing. It’s a beautiful home, well equipped, and comfortable. There’s a great view of the sunset. If we hadn’t experienced the first few hours of frustration and angst, this rating would have received 5 stars. Warning to some – you will be up and down the stairs a lot!

Shout out to the Dillon Café, who, though closed, let us use their land line and WiFi to try to make contact to the landlords. And, they do a mean breakfast. As does Estero Café, in Valley Ford.
