Absolutely Delightful 3 BR/2 Bath Home-Large Lot with Beautiful Trees! Sleeps 6
Maine is called "Vacationland" and you are going to LOVE it! Mt. Desert Island, home of Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park, is an incredibly beautiful place where people come to relax, to play and to appreciate all that nature has to offer. 'Acadia Retreat' has been created so that you and your family can stay in a wonderful and comfortable environment while you explore and experience all the beauty that surrounds you! Our charming home is beautifully maintained & lovingly appointed with great attention to detail. We have a bright, open floor plan where the living room, dining area & kitchen share one big space. The kitchen has an abundance of cabinets & counter space. The laundry area located right off the kitchen has a full-sized washer & dryer. The dining area has a handsome round oak table with matching chairs. The living room has 'comfy' sofas & an HDTV and DVD player. Great Vacation Spot!
The sunny bedrooms are located on opposite ends of the home for maximum privacy. The master bedroom with a queen-size bed has a private bath & walk-in closet. The second bedroom with twin beds has two closets & the main bath is located right outside the door. The 24 x 14 sun room is the 3rd sleeping area and has a queen sofa bed.
Both baths offer spotlessly clean tub/shower combinations. The heating system is very efficient & we also have Central Air conditioning! A ceiling fan and portable fans are available for extra comfort as well. The home has been freshly painted bright white & accented with attractive & colorful furnishings & collectibles.
Outside you can enjoy a beautiful yard with exquisite trees & colorful wildflowers that will make you smile. You can just relax in the hammock with a book, send the kids on a treasure hunt in the surrounding woods, cook some lobsters & have a picnic or even shoot some hoops! 'Acadia Retreat' is Truly a Great Vacation Spot for Everyone!
Activities: Hadley Point Beach is a public area (3 miles) where you can launch a boat, have picnics, sunbathe, skip rocks, watch the seals & other wildlife. This is a favorite spot for the kayak rental companies to start & end their day trips-it's fun to watch them come & go--and you just might want to join them! There are several freshwater ponds/lakes on the Island where you can enjoy swimming, boating or fishing. You can even go horseback riding on the gorgeous carriage trails that wind through Acadia. You can hike, ride bikes on your own, go out on a whale-watching tour or a sunset cruise on Frenchman's Bay or participate in tons of activities that are offered by Acadia National Park! Definitely go and see the movie that is shown at the Visitor's Center which is less than 10 min away! Try to get to the Jordan Pond House for afternoon tea, popovers and homemade ice cream and of course, take a drive up Cadillac Mountain and around the Ocean Drive where you will see Sand Beach, Thunder Hole & Otter Cliffs!
There are fantastic restaurants, great shopping and even mini golf courses nearby. There is an awesome 'Art Deco' movie theater called The Criterion located in downtown Bar Harbor and two evenings a week there are band concerts on the Village Green. Several art shows are held during the summer and cruise ships come into the harbor weekly! Mt. Desert Island is Truly an Unforgettable Place with Something for Everyone!

About Lorie Wiebrecht
I was born in Bar Harbor and my entire family lives or works only 5 minutes from our rental homes. My husband was born in Wisconsin and he fell in love with MDI the first time I took him there in 1996. He knew even before I did that we MUST have our own property there so that we would always have an excuse to go north whenever we could! Mt. Desert Island is such a beautiful place - we both are so thankful that we can experience it many times a year and I must say that we are struck by the beauty and the solitude every time we go 'home.' We hope that you truly have a wonderful time whether it is your first experience or you have been visiting for 20 years. My Dad's motto is...'If you come to Maine once it won't be your last time.' Of course he is pretty bias on the subject - having lived in Bar Harbor all his life! I wish everyone could get one of his Island tours-they are awesome to say the least! He started working as a chauffeur at age 15 and he can tell some stories. He and my Mom owned several restaurants and motels and even developed the largest campground on the Island, Bar Harbor Campground which my youngest brother now manages. Seems like our family has been in the hospitality trade forever and...with all that experience we have certainly learned how to take good care of our guests!
Lorie Wiebrecht purchased this House in 2005
Why Lorie Wiebrecht chose Bar Harbor
We love the land which is approximately 2.6 acres. The open, grassy area is big and level but the perimeter of the property is surrounded by big beautiful evergreens! There are many other varieties as well so the land is interesting during the fall season. The location is peaceful and quiet yet the property is not very far from anywhere on the Island. The wildlife is plentiful-you might see several deer just a few feet from the windows and the wild turkeys and other birds are all around. We have had rabbits, chipmunks, squirrels, ducks and even a bear was spotted while eating a neighbor's bird seed last year!
What makes this House unique
This property is on a private road with only 7 other homes yet it is right on the Island Explorer (free) Bus Service route. You can take the bus and travel all over the Island all day long and even take your bike along. We also own the home next door and the two lots combined are almost 7 acres. Now when you live in a city where the houses are so close that you can hear your neighbor walking across her hardwoods floors with the windows CLOSED you really know it when you have a peaceful spot where you can relax and focus on the sounds of nature!!! It is heaven for us and we hope that it will be for you, too!

Very clean and extremely well stocked for visitors
"Acadia Retreat" was a nice, private place to enjoy our family vacation. The house was very clean, well-maintained and stocked with everything we could possibly need while on vacation. Our family enjoyed all the aspects of Acadia National Park including hiking, biking, fishing, and swimming. The town of Bar Harbor had great shopping and restaurants too! After a full day of fun it was nice to come back to a quiet place to relax. Lorie was really great to work with and very well organized!
Another Happy Vacationer! That is what I like to hear! :-)
When it comes to being organized I think that that can really help make the process of planning and enjoying vacation so much easier and satisfying!!
We have been offering vacation homes for rent in Bar Harbor since 2003 and we have made the process quite simple, efficient and straightforward. I think that is what helps takes some of the stress out of venturing into the "unknown."
After all...when you are renting a house that you have never seen that can give you pause...we understand that and we try to give you a sense of order and comfort as you prepare for a great new experience!!
I let the guests know right up front when the payments are due, when the travel package will be emailed, when the house will be inspected and how soon their deposit will be returned. We are very good about returning the deposits quickly and I love it when the guests tell me that the deposit beat them home!
Please give me a call to discuss your vacation plans. I know that we have a house that would work beautifully for you and your family/friends. Thank you!
Best "home away from home" we have ever stayed in!
Acadia Retreat was the perfect "home" for us on our recent trip to Maine. I knew from my first conversation with Lorie that we would not lack for anything, but was still amazed at what we found at Acadia Retreat. The home was immaculately cleaned. Our bed was by far the most comfortable bed I have slept in while traveling. There was never an item we were lacking for. There was laundry soap, there was bug spray, there was a little cooler to pack a lunch in, you name it - it was there for you. The kitchen was supplied with everything you could need. I loved that I didn't need to buy seasonings for cooking - it was like I was home and could just open the cupboard and get what I needed. When we were looking for something and reached out to Lorie, she quickly got back to us. We probably spent 90% of our time in the sunroom. It felt like we were in a log cabin in the woods. It was perfect for eating meals, playing games, reading, and relaxing after our longs days in the park. I wouldn't stay anywhere else if we are able to get back to Acadia/Bar Harbor again. Thank you Lorie for all you did to make our "vacation home" feel like home!!
What a great review! Thank you so much~
I think that it is very important to talk personally with my guests before they make a decision to proceed. It can be a bit unsettling when you are choosing a vacation rental that you have never seen and I can appreciate that. My goal is to help prospective guests feel informed and comfortable with me (and my business practices) by the time they make a reservation.
I tell them what to expect and I expect to make good on my promises! And the real WIN happens...when you can give them MORE than they expect! :-)
As far as stocking our rentals...I tell guests that they need to bring 4 things. Clothes, food and drinks, personal gadgets and personal toiletries. I try to provide all kinds of items that you would have at home but can't pack for a short trip. It's fun for me and helpful for you.
Feel free to call me anytime so that I can help you plan a wonderful vacation for you and your family. Thank you!.
Good for Those Seeking Peace and Quiet
During our four day stay, we didn't hear a sound from neighbors. We were surprised twice by deer, so be mindful when driving that you're sharing your space with nature. Our family of four adults had more than enough space to spread out and claim a spot of our own. If we had not been out and about each day, my husband would have been perfectly content to lounge for hours in the backyard hammock. We prepared dinner once there, but drove the other three evenings into Bar Harbor. This is a good 20 minutes from the house. You really need to allow 30 minutes if you have a reservation, since finding a parking place in Bar Harbor is challenging at best. The house is completely stocked with everything you might need and then some. Thank you Lorie for having bandages for blisters, an umbrella, and insulated lunch bags for guests to borrow. All came in handy. We found the house to be very clean and comfortably furnished. Since we arrived after three on our first day, we only had time for a short excursion. We drove by Somes Sound along Sargeant Drive off of Route 198. Lovely and peaceful towards dusk.
Beyond PERFECT! AMAZING Place to Stay!
We stay at the Acadia Retreat, along with another couple, for 4 nights in September and we all absolutely LOVED the place! It was so warm and inviting and very tastefully decorated. It felt like home immediately. More importantly the house is impeccably clean! The new sun room is so beautiful and cozy. And the place is so private! Everything we needed was in the house. It's in a great location - very short drive to Acadia National Park or downtown Bar Harbor. The owner (Lorie) was an absolute delight to work with from our first inquiry right through our entire stay. She's very responsive and helpful! I can't tell you how much we loved our vacation! Our only regret was that we couldn't stay longer. We are already trying to plan dates that we can return to the Acadia Retreat. Honestly don't think twice about renting this place....do it now! You won't regret it!
Now that is a FANTASTIC review! These guests came all the way from Wisconsin and this is their first time visiting Bar Harbor, Maine and Acadia. My husband is from Wisconsin and he was born in Chippewa Falls which is the home of Leinenkugel's beer. There are several varieties of their beer (so good!) that can't be purchased outside the state and of course his favorite is one of those! This lovely couple offered to bring 2 cases of beer with them on their trip! SO sweet and my husband is SO happy! Soon all of our friends will be tasting his favorite beer as well.
It is those kinds of experiences that we enjoy with this fulfilling vacation rental business. We meet such good people along the way and they tend to come back year after year and soon they feel like family!! It is very satisfying.
I would love to assist YOU and your family with your vacation plans. Please feel free to contact me-it is not too early to plan for 2017.
Thank you! Lorie
We Had a Blast at Acadia Retreat
Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor were great, and the house was the perfect place to stay. Roomy and comfortable and great attention to details by the host.
The house was clean as a whistle and VERY comfortable. Much better that we expected. Really quiet...a true "retreat".
The kitchen had all the basics...spices, sweeteners, etc., everything we forgot to buy!
The suggestions provided by our host, Lorie, and in the guest book comments were spot on.
Don't miss whale watching and lunch or an early dinner at Jordan Pond. And if you like lobster....HEAVEN awaits you!!!
Oh, and there's a great country store called Town Hill less than a mile or two away. it even had a good selection of organics and homemade foods.
I plan on going back to the area and will certainly stay at Acadia Retreat!!!
Beautiful property with everything you could think of and a lot that you would not even think of!! We rent homes regularly for vacations and this was the best stocked of any we have ever rented. Those little and not so little things being there when you need them is so refreshing especially when traveling with children as we were. Lorie is so responsive and a pleasure to deal with. There is a great feeling to this home - so welcoming and well cared for! Thanks for a great week!
'Acadia Retreat' is conveniently located just 2 miles from the bridge onto Mt. Desert Island and 9 miles from downtown Bar Harbor. The Visitor's Center at the entrance of Acadia National Park is less than 10 minutes away.
