Why Christie Dysart chose Southwest Harbor
We just love this area of MDI! There's hiking, biking, boating, exploring just minutes away. Southwest Harbor is just a little bit quieter than BarHarbor and the kids can walk or bike anywhere. There's restaurants and a great ice cream shop just a hop, skip, and a jump away.
What makes this House unique
This house has fantastic views of Southwest Harbor from almost every room in the house. There's a great marina directly across the street where you can view amazing boats, and a fun restaurant that is across the street that has outdoor seating right on the shore.

Everything We Expected and So Much More
Our family has spent many summers camping at the Nat'l Park's Seawall Campground. Now our needs have changed, but our desire for a laid-back vacation on Mt Desert Island has not. Staying at the "Head of the Harbor" provided the perfect option for us, and I would very confidently recommend this home.
The location is excellent for short walks - just across the street to watch the activity in the harbor, or just a very few minutes stroll to the Little Notch Bakery for fresh bread and baked goods, as well as gift shops and a fine grocery.
The kitchen is very well equipped and organized. The rooms are all super clean. The over all feeling is of a nicely decorated home that has been well loved and cared for. We were very comfortable, as was our dog.
Each day we set out for hikes and easily retured in time for a relaxing break, and hot shower. We especially enjoyed hikes around SW Harbor - Flying Mt and Long Pond. We could easily return for lunch - Seafood Pizza from The Quietside Cafe, not to be missed atleast once, twice is better - and set out for more activities until dinnertime. The Seawall Hikes are so close that there seemed no reason not to enjoy them everyday. Evenings were perfect, we could cook dinner and clean up in no time. Twice we purchased fresh scallops from the back of a fisherman's truck (look for him on Sunday and Thursday, just a short walk toward Bass Harbor). Then all 3 of us could relax on the comfy couch, streaming BBC series which we rarely slow down long enough to enjoy. A good nights sleep-in the master bedroom or even the bunk bed- and we awoke ready to take off for a trip to Bar Harbor, arriving before the crowds Our only regret was not booking for two weeks, we will know better next time.
Cosy 3Br with all the comforts of home.
Christie has gone beyond the call of duty to both decorate and outfit this cute vacation home. First rate towels, Kureg cups for the coffee maker, soap for the laundry, all the kitchen utensils,...., the list could go on. If you haven't been to SWH it's a real treat. Close all that MDI has to offer, yet with peace and quiet. If you've been there, you know. Choosing this place to stay will just make it all the better.
We loved the house and our time in Acadia!
The house had a great view and everything we needed for our stay. Being able to walk to shops and restaurants in SW Harbor was a huge plus. We had great hikes, sea kayaking, art galleries, and theater shows all within 10 minutes. We'll be back!!
Beautiful spot for exploring the island.
Beautiful home with a spectacular view and easy walk to the center of town. Accessible to so many wonderful spots on the island. Kitchen is wonderfully equipped! Host is very responsive. A great place!
Great rental, thoroughly enjoyed it
We stayed in the Head of Harbor house right at the beginning of peak season in Acadia. We have two young children, and felt like the house was perfect for us. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of things that were included in the house: all basic necessities plus all kinds of other things that would have been a pain to bring (child high-chair, some toys for kids, movies and DVD players and a gaming system, etc.). In general, it felt like Christie went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. There was also a nice view of the water from the large window in the main room.
In terms of location, we did end up driving to the other side of the island most days, but we did spend a few days entirely on the west side (Acadia Mountain was such a great hike we did it twice). We felt we got great bang for our buck by staying in SW Harbor.
In short, if you're staying in Southwest Harbor, this is an excellent choice.
Marina slips are available to boat owners.
