About this property

Kenwood Cottage-Canyon & Creek Setting, No cleaning fee, Tesla Charger.

Kenwood Cottage is located in the heart of Sonoma's wine country and the town of Kenwood. This two bedroom, two bath vacation home is walking distance to Sugarloaf Ridge State Park and to some of the premiere wineries in the region. Our house is now Tesla (EV) ready - we are an approved Tesla destination charger, and free charging is included for overnight guests.

We have full solar and battery backup. None of our competitors have this! Relax! No worries about power outages which have been recently discussed in the media.

This idyllic cottage rests on a year round creek in the historic Adobe Canyon and is situated in a bucolic setting. With private gardens, luminous canyon scenery and wildlife spilling through your cottage windows, you can walk to hiking trails that lead over bridges and waterfalls to spectacular vistas. Picnic at Sugarloaf Ridge or hike to Bald Mountain with 360º views of Northern California and the Golden Gate Bridge. Spend an evening at the Robert Ferguson Observatory at Sugarloaf Park stargazing and learning about current astronomical events.

Kenwood is in the heart of the Valley of the Moon and is considered one of the premiere towns in Sonoma's wine country. This retreat offers privacy and serenity, yet is only minutes to some of the best wineries in the region.

The interior design has an eye for sophistication, simplicity and beauty, and this cottage is artfully appointed with many of the amenities of a 5 star resort. There is a spa/hot tub only a few steps from the master suite overlooking the creek, with exquisite views of the stars, mountains and the majestic trees that surround this private oasis.

The kitchen and main bathroom were just remodeled, added a second (full bath but a little smaller with shower but no tub) bathroom in the front bedroom, central air conditioning, new doors and windows, solar and battery backup, new furniture, along with many other upgrades to make your stay more relaxing and enjoyable.

We added a desk with spare PC monitor to plug into your laptop to keep in touch with the office or to work from “home” at the Kenwood Cottage!

Each room at the cottage was thoughtfully crafted with our guest’s comfort in mind. From plush down comforters and 100% cotton linens, to all the amenities of a gourmet kitchen, the cottage is a place for true pampering & relaxation. Each room at Kenwood Cottage has been given detailed attention for our guest's satisfaction.

Our beds are top of the line Serta pillow-top mattresses. The master bedroom opens up to the back deck where the hot tub/spa are a just a few steps from your room. Both rooms have remote controlled ceiling fans.

The outdoor spa/hot tub is set on the back deck overlooking Sonoma Creek - the largest year-round creek at the Valley of the Moon.

Sip our bottle of complimentary wine while you take a dip in the hot tub under starry nights or have your breakfast on one of the several outdoor tables thoughtfully placed around the cottage. An outdoor grill (Weber gas grill) and fully equipped kitchen is ready for your culinary artistry.

While there are plenty of wineries to choose from in Sonoma Valley, should you decide to experience more of what the wine country has to offer, the Kenwood Cottage is centrally located to the other wine regions. Driving times to other famous regions from the Kenwood Cottage are as follows:
Kenwood wineries < 3 min
Sonoma Square 20 min
Carneros Region 25 min
Russian River 25 min
Calistoga 30 min
Healdsburg / Dry Creek Valley 40 min.
Napa valley / St. Helena 40 minutes
There is one internet camera above the garage so we can keep an eye on the property when not rented. Another camera is located overlooking the creek so we can watch the water level during large storms.

House was exactly as advertised, clean, and cute. Nice stream in the backyard and a great location next to Sugar Loaf State Park. I think the only comment I can make beyond “great” is that we stayed there in March and hoping to enjoy warmth and escape the Midwest cold and the house is in a steep valley and so AM/PM sunlight is limited …but that is being pretty pick. Great VRBO

Lovely Stay
Kenwood Cottage was just as advertised. A lovely, peaceful setting with a babbling brook set the tone for a relaxing stay. The house was clean and had everything we needed. It is in a great location. We were able to visit vineyards in Healdsburg and Sonoma easily.

Great base for Sonoma wine trip
My husband and I stayed at Kenwood Cottage for 3 nights to celebrate our anniversary. The house had everything we needed; kitchen was fully stocked and most cabinets/drawers had labels to assist in finding items. The creek in the backyard was soothing to listen to. We did not have time to use the hot tub. We took a walk up the road into the canyon and the state park - it was really beautiful up there. Plenty of wineries and restaurants in the area. Highly recommend booking a stay here.

An Excellent Stay in Wine Country!
We had a wonderful stay at the Kenwood Cottage! The house was spotless, had everything we needed, comfortable beds, and we enjoyed spending time on the deck as well. The location was perfect for exploring wine country and we enjoyed a hike in the neighboring SugarLoaf Park as well. Highly recommend!

Lovely cottage, serene location
We adored this cottage. Perfect for two couples. The property is beautiful. The creek was not visible from the seating areas in the back, but we could certainly hear it which was so pleasant. In higher water, you might see it from the lounge chairs, so I think this is a result of weather vs. misdirection. There are steps down to put your feet in. Saw fox, deer, heron, and more! We enjoyed the back porch; even though it was 90+ degrees, it got cool enough at night for the hot tub which was perfect. Bedrooms: very comfy beds and bedding. A/C did seem to reset at night to a higher temp, which meant getting up to lower it (we sleep hot). But that wasn't a big deal for us since we inevitably have to get up for a nature call. Living room: comfortable furniture, nice layout. Didn't get a chance to play the table-top video game (hail, Galaga!) but I can imagine this is a big hit. Kitchen: aside from the grounds itself, this is where the place shines! I have rarely seen a VRBO property this well-equipped. There are numerous spices, even flour and sugar if you wanted to bake. There is both a Keurig (with pods available) and a drip coffee maker. There are dishes galore, and the cookware is of good quality - yes, there is a pan you can fry an egg in (a most difficult thing to find in rentals, in my experience) and sharp knives. We cooked both nights, so really appreciated having everything we needed. The Weber was perfect for our steaks! 10/10 recommend. Wish we had more time!

Quiet Escape
Kenwood Cottage was the perfect place for us to stay while in the area for a wedding. We specifically came a few days early to enjoy the surrounding area as well as the peace and quiet of this beautiful cottage. The cottage is very close to numerous wineries. If available, we will definitely stay here again!

Perfect location for relaxing
Kenwood Cottage was even more beautiful in person than pictures can capture. The cottage was comfortable and well-equipped, the location convenient to wineries and hiking. We were able to visit Bodega Head (less than an hour from the cottage) for a stunning day on the California Coast. Sugerloaf Ridge State Park is so close and offers amazing hikes. It was lovely to come back to the hottub after some long hikes and relax on the gorgeous property. I highly recommend this house to anyone looking to spend time in Sonoma!

Peaceful Sonoma
Peaceful, cozy, exceptionally clean, sets the standard for any place we visit in the future. The setting was beautiful. The only thing we needed was food. Restaurants and wineries were easily accessible. On a scale of 1 to 5 we rate Kenwood Cottage a 10! Hosts Wayne and Laura were always available if we needed them.

Top Notch!
We have stayed at many, many home rentals and Kenwood Cottage was, without a doubt, one of the best. Communication and information provided from initial request through arrival and stay were fantastic. The location is perfect - secluded but with easy access to wineries, restaurants, and other towns. And the creek - Ahhhh! What a bonus! The house is so nicely appointed - comfortable beds, spacious living areas, and the best-stocked kitchen we’ve seen. Just so much thought and attention to detail to make our stay wonderful. We would come back again without question.

Kenwood Cottage is a Winner!
The property location is amazing...along a babbling brook and walking distance to Sugarloaf Ridge State Park. The house is well equipped for fun inside and out. Lovely deck and patio overlooks a wooded hillside just across the brook. Lots of nature right there, including birds and deer. The kitchen is especially well equipped! Property owners were very accessible. A definite winner!

Perfect in every way
Words can barely describe how wonderful Kenwood Cottage is and how fabulous Sonoma and Napa is as a vacation spot! We were a group of 4 and the cottage was the perfect place. It is a very well stocked place, ideally located, and very comfortable. There is a charming babbling brook behind the house and if the weather had been warmer we no doubt would have spent much time there. The views in Sonoma are pastoral, there are hundreds of vineyards to choose from. Our favorites were St. Francis and Kunde. You can't miss with Kenwood Cottage!

This was my family's first trip to wine country and this home was the perfect place to explore and relax. We greatly appreciated the well-stocked kitchen and the booklet with wonderful recommendations for local vineyards and restaurants. The hot tub on the outdoor deck was a wonderful way to end a day of wine tasting and exploration, and the tranquil backyard setting was beautiful as well. The owners have thought of everything and made our stay comfortable and relaxing. We hope to visit again!

Enjoyable October Weekend at Kenwood Cottage
The property was exactly as described and we enjoyed a long weekend in wine country. We would like to return to do some hiking in the Sugar Loaf State Park. It was sad to see the fire damage in the area; my Aunt lives in the area and had to evacuate - so we recalled her frightening experience a few years ago. Great to see the local airport expanding - makes it really easy for us (Oregonians) to visit. Thanks for the opportunity and for sharing your charming cottage! Jolie Sellers

About the host

Hosted by Wayne and Laura Best

Host profile image
We are a happily married couple of over 42 years and live in the San Francisco Bay Area. Wayne is the chief economist at a Fortune 500 firm and Laura spends time with their grandson and manages the Kenwood Cottage. We enjoy cooking, wine tasting, relaxing, travel and sight seeing; all of these we found at the Kenwood Cottage!

Why they chose this property

Kenwood is a small town in the heart of Sonoma Valley. We spent over 5 years looking for just the right place in the wine country. Once we became familiar with the differences between Sonoma and Napa, we landed on Sonoma due to its more laid back and friendly atmosphere. The charming town of Kenwood had it all for us and the Kenwood Cottage with its canyon setting and lovely sounds from the year round creek really sold us. We have had this property since 2006 - we are constantly upgrading the Kenwood Cottage!

Not familiar with Kenwood? Look what the Wine Spectator wrote in a recent edition about the area, “There are beautiful wine roads all over the world, rambling through Tuscany and Provence, or along the Rhine in Germany's Rheingau. But you needn't cross the ocean to find some. The route, coming into Kenwood as you drive north through Sonoma Valley, the mountains ribbed with hillside vineyards, is in the same league.”

This is why we so fell in love with the area and why this is such a great place to relax and unwind.

Experience the much more laid back atmosphere of Sonoma vs Napa valley where it is not uncommon to have the wine maker pouring his own wines, the staff more friendly and passionate than we have found in other regions.

What makes this property unique

Nearly all the other properties listed above and below this one on VRBO do not have the quiet, canyon setting with a creek running through the property and the ambiance that creates for our guests. Don’t be misled - other properties are nearly all in residential neighborhoods and are not a serene, relaxing environment. Yet the location of the Kenwood Cottage is so ideal: only a mile from over 25 excellent wineries, yet romantic and secluded. It was everything we had hoped for after looking for a second home for over 5 years.

We use the cottage when it is not rented and thus, have it fully equipped the way we want to enjoy it and make all of these amenities available to our guests.

We provide a complete guest guide that tells you not only everything you need to know about the cottage, but also all the great wineries, restaurants, and things to do around the cottage.

Walking on the seldom traveled road in front of the Kenwood Cottage is a favorite thing to do in the morning hours. Coffee on the secluded rear deck overlooking the creek (or while in the hot tub) is also a morning favorite. We often head to a local store (we provide many ideas where in our guest guide) to pick up picnic supplies (we keep a picnic cooler for you at the cottage) and then head out for wine tasting and picnicking.

The exciting part for us is that every year, the wines change! So we often revisit the local wineries several times per year to enjoy their new offerings. Once back from wine tasting/exploring/hiking, we relax in our front yard garden with some wine and cheese and then either enjoy one of the many great restaurants within minutes of the cottage or prepare a feast with our fully equipped kitchen. We finish the evening sitting in the hot tub looking up at the millions of stars (it is amazing what a slight elevation change from the valley floor will do to make millions more stars appear!). Tell me, what is there not to LOVE about this destination!
