House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, (Sleeps 4)
Nestled in the beachside community of Lanikai in Kailua, this fully furnished home is over 1400 square feet of luxury living. Beautifully decorated with antiques and Asian art, this unit is the whole upper half of the main house with its own separate entrance. This entrance is at mid-floor level with a Brazilian cherry staircase leading to upper and lower levels. The caretaker lives in the lower level.
Your home away from home has a large living area that basically divides into two sections: one with a comfy couch for watching television, hidden behind carved house panels from Borneo; the other for reading or computer work. Down the hall is a laundry room with a stacked washer and dryer as well as a sink for pre-soaking clothes. Just a few steps away is a second bedroom with a queen-sized bed and an adjoining bathroom (Rubber ducky is included!). Across the hall is a blue bedroom that has two twin beds and its own separate bathroom with a walk-in shower. There is also an eat-in kitchen fully equipped with plenty of dishes and glasses as well as pots and pans.
Outside is a small garden area with a teak table and chairs for enjoying a morning cup of coffee or a dinner hot from the barbecue. There is a wide array of tropical plants as well as a very large monkey pod tree that spans two properties. It is home to a large number of songbirds (manu mele), providing you every morning with a serenade!!
We are approximately a five to seven minute walk to the world famous Lanikai Beach, undoubtedly, the best swimming beach in all of Hawai’i. The town of Kailua is only a seven minute drive. It has a plenty of shopping including a new Whole Foods Store and some great restaurants. Even closer is the Kailua Beach Center that has kayaks and other ocean toys for rent. The property is managed by long-time Hawaii residents.

The Perfect Place to Stay in Lanikai
This magnificent property is in the most ideal location for any holiday be it with family, friends or just to be self indulgent. Nancy is to be congratulated for not only sharing this idyllic home away from home, but for also creating a guest property that services everyone's modern needs whilst at the same time being able to still encapsulate the charm of true Hawaiian style. We fell in love with this property as soon as we walked in through the welcoming doors. As for Nancy, one could not possibly ask for a more accomodating or helpful host. Full of local knowledge and only too willing to share. Our experience in Lanikai was truly enriched by her suggestions of places to visit. Our airline lost our luggage and Nancy was so helpful every day to assist in contacting the airline for updates and offers of clothing and supplies. A host is one who truly makes you feel at home and able to take the pressure of problems off your shoulders, Nancy did this in every way possible. We had THE best time.
Wonderful stay in Lanikai
Here's our review from The Netherlands, family of 4 (2 teenagers).
After a good week of staying at hotel rooms this was the perfect home to stay and relax. The home and garden look absolutely stunning. The home was very clean and we did not have any issues with insects.
Everything you need is available in the home, beach equipment was next to the garage.
The beach is the best, 10 minutes of walking and you're there, white sand and a lovely sea. There are almost no waves so if you want to bodyboard you'll have to go to another beach. This calm sea is ideal if you want to sup or canoe.
During our stay we went to the north shore twice and spotted lots of whales from the beach. We also enjoyed watching the big wave surfing and turtles sunbathing on the beach.
Buzz's is indeed a good restaurant to eat. Our first try for dinner didn't work out because the president had dinner reservations but the day after that everything worked out fine :-)
Nancy is very friendly and the whole progress of renting this home went flawless. When we return someday this beautiful home will be on our list again.
Mahalo and Aloha
Wonderful family friendly rental!
My husband and I and our 2 kids (1&4) stayed here this October for 8 nights. The property is located in a great, quiet neighborhood, just a short 5-10 minute walk to the beach! We loved staying here and Nancy was an amazing host. She keeps the grounds impeccable and the inside of the property was much more spacious and beautiful than the pictures show. I think this was the cleanest pack and play and high chair we have ever used at a rental! All the details from the plush baby blanket, to the environmentally friendly soap, to the sweet souvenirs for my kids did not go unnoticed or unappreciated. We absolutely recommend this property to anyone, especially families with young children. Aloha!
The Perfect Place for Us
My wife and I and our two teenage children has the pleasure of staying here in Lanikai in Kailua. We arrived a bit early by accident and surprised the cleaning crew. They were very polite and allowed us to drop off our luggage while we went grocery shopping to stock the fridge. The house was very beautiful and was just perfect for our family of 4. I had the pleasure of being the first to use the brand new Weber grill Nancy has purchased and had installed. Everything was very clean, the queen bed was supportive for me and my back, there were no bugs anywhere, and even though there was no AC we were very comfortable, especially at night. The Lanikai beach was amazing. The sand was almost like powder and so soft on my tootsies, plenty of room and was never crowded. Buzz's restaurant just down the street was amazing, make sure you get the Calamari steak mmmm. I would definitely stay with Nancy again, she is a wonderful hostess and really friendly.
Nostalgic ambience and lots of space, wonderful beaches
We were a party of two couples from Europe and spent a wonderful week in this 1940s nostalgically furnished property which reminded us more of a manor than of a holiday accommodation - the type of place where you first tend to walk on tippy-toes or felt slippers. Lots of beautiful details, which were carefully arranged, went perfectly together.
Somehow we were wondering why Mr. Hemingway never joined us for dinner; maybe it was because he would have missed a fan in the kitchen which tended to become quite hot after we had prepared our dinner. So we withdrew rather soon to one of the other rooms where silent, but efficient fans made us feel highly comfortable. The fact that there was no dishwasher was clear from the description of the property, and Hemingway would certainly have refused to use such a bourgeois appliance. On the other hand, he might have appreciated a slightly bigger table in the garden and a canopy above it.
The property was impeccably clean. Knowing from trips to Southern Europe that no food should be stored outside the fridge and no garbage in the house overnight we didn’t have the slightest problems with insects. Nancy was a most friendly and helpful hostess and answered each and every question we had. Throughout our stay we admired the two beaches of Lanikai and Kailua; Kailua eventually became our favourite where we spent many hours in the Ocean so that in the end we embarked with heavy hearts on our 16 hours plane trip back to Germany.
We loved our stay at this beautiful home in lush and quiet Lanikai. The house was immaculate, just as pictured here, and the owner was extremely friendly and helpful. This was a great place for our toddler, who loved the bathtub and rubber duckies and the delightful picture books at the house. The owner even had a souvenir gift for him on parting. Dreamy (and toddler-friendly) Lanikai beach is only a half a mile walk down the hill, and the pillboxes of the Ka'iwa Ridge hiking trail are visible from the driveway (a great place to watch the sunrise). Kailua beach and town are a quick drive away (or bicycle). We appreciated the beach chairs, mats, toys, and towels provided at the house, and we did lots of cooking in the well-equipped kitchen. Unfortunately, we were there during some record-breaking heat and humidity and the house has no air conditioning (which is common for the area). We adjusted fine, but just a heads-up to anyone sensitive to such things who might be traveling during the very hot season.
Our most unique activity is just swimming in the calm, reef protected pacific ocean at Lanikai beach. You'll love our accommodations - please inquire. PLEASE EMAIL US WITH ALL YOUR INQUIRIES, THANK YOU
