Gorgeous Oceanfront Property with amazing views of Acadia National Park

Two floors that can be completely independent - perfect for an extended family!

Your jaw will drop when you come to the end of the driveway and look out over the ocean to the view of Acadia. The entire property is called Main Stay, and this house is known as 'The Barn', but don't be fooled by it's name. This building has been lovingly cared for and recently renovated, with every comfort in mind. Each floor has 1,000 square feet of living space.

What makes this rental so unique is the way it is configured. Each floor can be used as an entirely separate unit, because each has a full kitchen, bath, sleeping, dining, and living area. There are three separate sleeping areas with very comfortable beds. The Barn at Mainstay can easily accommodate three couples, with two fold out sofa beds with brand new mattresses that are great for kids. The property would be ideal for two families traveling together, or for extended families. One favorite feature that brings lots of comments is the antique cast iron sink in the kitchen.

Wonderful location

My family and I had a wonderful time here. It was such a beautiful, peaceful location for us to stay and very close to Acadia for us to go hike during the day. Kids had a great time playing on the beach area and the stars were amazing at night. Liz was a great and helpful host.

Acadia family trip

This is the second time we have stayed at the Barn. The location is incredible with the beautiful shoreline and its proximity to the park. We enjoyed hunting for shells and sand dollars, had a campfire, and cooked most meals in. We hiked trails in Acadia every day and took a trip to Schoodic. We enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning again someday.

The pictures don't do this place justice, it is beautiful! The kids had a wonderful time playing in the tidepools and finding all kinds of sea animals. Definitely recommend for all ages!

Lovely home in a very beautiful/tranquil setting. Loved the fully equipped kitchen(s), comfortable beds and furniture, and outdoor seating. We loved the nature setting and water views, while being within 30 minutes of Acadia/Bar Harbor, 15 minutes from Ellsworth for general shopping/groceries, and 10 minutes from the amazing Trenton Bridge Lobster Pound. Two living areas and two full baths provided plenty of space for everyone to gather and/or study/read. Liz was very responsive and helpful to all of our questions.

Getaway in Acadia

This was the best stay of our life. The location was great, nothing can beat the waterfront views. We felt right at home when we arrived. Amazing hosts, beautiful quiet area with gorgeous views and the overall incredible stay. Definitely recommend.

The perfect vacation in Maine

This vacation rental exceeded our expectations! We were 2 families with kids from 6 to 15, There is only one real bedroom but plenty of space to sleep everyone. We loved to have breakfast at the long table, bbqs outside and s’mores at the fire pit. The location was perfect for day trips to Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor.

The Barn

The view was great and we had a great time kayaking and swimming right outside the back door. Close enough to Bar Harbor and Acadia, but we still had a quiet, spot to ourselves and family. Great time!

Great rental on the water

What an amazing property right on the water! We had a great time staying at 'the barn'. The house is very clean and well stocked. It is secluded on a large property that made us feel like we were alone yet you can get to Bar Harbor, Acadia etc. with a short drive. Our host, Liz, was excellent! We look forward to renting again.

Exceptional setting. Feels like home.

This property was remarkable. Gorgeous views. Great location. But most of all relaxing - it felt like home. The kids enjoyed exploring the shoreline as well as the grownups. We enjoyed the fire pit and cooking over the fire. The owners Liz and Mike were the most friendly, accommodating people. They felt like family. Can’t wait to come back. Would definitely recommend a stay here.

Great stay on the coast of Maine

We had a wonderful time staying at The Barn. Oak Point is a nice, quiet spot on the doorstep to MDI. Perfect for making day trips to Acadia NP, Bar Harbor, or even the quiet side of the island! The Barn is also a very comfortable spot to just hang out and relax with amazing views of the mountains of MDI over the water views of the Western Bay of the Mt Desert Narrows. Perfect spot to launch our paddle boards with plenty of wildlife (birds, deer, seals!) viewing.

Great views, comfortable, clean, peaceful

Our family of 5 with dog had a wonderful stay! Best views of western bay and mountains of Mount Desert. The large rock by the shoreline was a great place to star gaze and watch the sunrise. We are able to launch our kayaks off the shoreline to watch the sunset and visit Black island across the water. Kitchen also had everything we needed to cook at home. Comfortable, clean, spacious with lovely gardens. Would definitely consider coming back here when we are visiting Acadia again. Thank you to the friendly hosts for allowing us to rent this special place!

Gorgeous scenery and close to Acadia NP!

We adored the scenery at this home! The sunrises and sunsets were beautiful. We saw deer, wild turkeys and seals daily and were treated with sightings of bald eagles, all from the comfort of this home. We loved walking along the beach right outside our door and found many shells. The main level of the home is updated, overall. Though the second story of the home is not updated, it was very clean and the kitchens were well stocked; we cooked several meals there. The owner was very kind, helpful and responsive. Acadia NP is an easy drive from the house. We had 4 adults and 3 children. The bedroom and Murphy beds were comfortable. The 2 pull out couches are standard and what you’d expect from that. Overall, this home was what we expected and we would stay there again for the views and ease to get to Acadia!

Great location for Acadia vacation

We had a great stay at the Barn! Our family of 5 stayed there comfortably. The location of the home is gorgeous on its own and about a 30 minute drive to Bar Harbor or Seal Harbor. It’s very relaxing to sit and watch the activity in the water out front. We were fortunate to spot a seal or two every day. Bring binoculars with you! We also brought kayaks along and were able to use them right from the shore. The water was calm as glass most mornings then too rough to use them from an onshore ore breeze usually by afternoon. Our hosts were onsite in a neighboring home which was nice if we needed anything (which we really didn’t - everything was provided in the home!) The layout is a little quirky so pay attention to the listing. There are ample places to sleep but only one private bedroom and only 2 “real” mattresses - the others are pull-out couch or futon type beds in common areas. There are plenty of pillows, towels and sheets and 2 sets of washers and dryers, though when we visited the front loading washer on the first floor had quite a mold odor. The first floor kitchen is very well supplied! It had all the cookware we have at home and more. The closest big grocery store is about 20 minutes away but there was a smaller store in Trenton about 12 minutes or so away. There is also a kitchen on the second floor that we didn’t use. The balcony upstairs has 2 nice chairs on it since the photos were taken. Very nice to sit out and enjoy the view. Lovely home!

Perfect Acadia getaway

My wife and I are just back from 10 days at Liz’s place. The location of the house could not better! Direct water front with views of Acadia but away from the crowds of Bar Harbor. The house was very clean upon arrival. Check-in could not have been easier. The house has everything you could possibly need for a relaxing stay. There were only 2 of us but the house is huge. Definitely enough space for several people. It’s only 20 minutes to Acadia and Bar Harbor but you feel like you’re hundreds of miles from civilization; seclusion with convenience. I highly recommend this rental and would absolutely stay here again.

Perfect Maine Getaway

My family (husband, myself, and 3 adult sons ages 19, 22, 26) had our first week long vacation in years. I chose the perfect state, the perfect region, the perfect time of year, and the perfect place to stay. This home provided plenty of space for my adult family. There are 2 floors, 2 kitchens, 2 bathrooms, 1 bedroom with a comfy king sized bed, and living areas with Murphy beds. The second floor has a balcony with an incredible view of Acadia National Park across the water. The yard has a fire pit, which we used many nights. Plenty of room to play games and do puzzles and watch baseball games together. It was truly one of the best vacations we ever had together!

Certainly one of our best vacations as a Family. You just cant beat this place. Fantastic views, extremely relaxing and it affords you the flexibility to spend quality time with your family. Kayaking right out your backdoor with seals and porpoises. Just unbelievable. Liz and Mike are so friendly and thier local knowledge was key to great food and adventure. Highly recommended this place!!!

Beautiful Views

We enjoyed our stay. The house worked for our family of 10 despite the lack of formal bedrooms except for one. The views of Acadia from the house were absolutely incredible. Everyone loved being able to walk right down to the water and explore the shore. We drove to Bar Harbor and Acadia every day to enjoy the park and enjoyed the fire pit and a supermoon over Acadia at night. We would love to return someday.

Terrific property

This property has everything - stunning views, great location, super amenities, and terrific hosts. Be advised that there is only one private bedroom - the remainder of the beds are Murphy beds (both very comfortable) and sofa pull outs (didn’t need those), but the living areas and bathrooms are great. The kitchen is as well-stocked with utensils and cookware as home. Highly recommend this property.

Our family has owned Main Stay for four generations. My grandmother's family bought the property back in the early 1900's and built a small family camp they called Sea Breezes. My parents retired there in the 1970's, and I own my parents home as well as The Barn, and my sister in law spends time every few months in her home in the middle. My family enjoys our time on this idyllic piece of Downeast Maine.

I work at Scholastic, and my husband is retired. Our grown son and his wonderful wife enjoys his time with us in Maine

My husband and I spent the past several years extensively renovating 'The Barn'. Everything was done with the understanding that some day, we will be able to retire to our Maine home. We hope you will love it as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

The view from the tip of Oak Point looking toward Mt. Desert Island and Acadia National Park is nothing short of spectacular. There are many islands in Western Bay which are populated by seals and bald eagles. The boating is legendary, the environment is pristine, and the beauty of the area is simply breathtaking.

One of the great features of this location is it is so private, and yet so convenient to everything. The airport is minutes away, and Ellsworth is great for stocking up on groceries and dining out.

What makes this property unique

The sun and moon rise over Cadillac Mountain. The weather changes constantly. Many mornings are still and calm, inviting kayaking and powerboating, and the afternoons often bring lively breezes that are perfect for sailing. Right around the point is Union River Bay, and Blue Hill can be seen from the southwest side of the point. Because the property faces mostly south, we have lovely sunshine that reflects off the water, so even in the winter you feel bathed in light. Foggy or stormy days bring their own pleasures, with antiquing or shopping nearby, or quiet afternoons curled up by the fire with a good book. The extensive lawn is perfect for any type of outdoor activities you might enjoy.

The unique beauty of Acadia National Park is just minutes away. There are so many things to see and do! Bar Harbor is filled with fun shopping and dining options. You can enjoy a day on a windjammer or go out on a lobster boat. Although you technically could go through Acadia National Park in a day, you wouldn't be able to do more than scratch the surface of all it has to offer in just one visit. "Must see" views and experiences are the Loop Road, the views from the top of Cadillac Mountain, the Thunderhole, Sand Beach, the Carriage Roads, and so much more. Plan on visiting the Jordan Pond House to see 'The Bubbles' and try their famous popovers.

Relax and breathe in the fresh clean air, watch the waves crash on the pink granite cliffs, smell the fragrant pines, hear the gulls call. But, be careful. Once you experience the coast of Maine, it will never leave your heart.
