The house was great. The views were amazing. The hot tub was a nice treat after fishing all day. The extra cottage was great for our guest. We will be back again
The Briar Patch was all the photos show and so much more. Relaxing, rejuvenating and a wonderful space for connection. The property is very well kept, clean and very well stocked with kitchen ware and cooking needs. The communication with the owners was wonderful and so helpful in giving information about the area. We are already looking at our calendars to see when we can plan our next trip to the Briar Patch.
We had the most wonderful time! The atmosphere was incredibly cozy, perfect for a romantic getaway. The hosts paid attention to every detail, making sure our stay was both fun and relaxing. We loved the river and being surrounded by nature, which added to the charm of the place. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a memorable escape!
We really enjoyed our stay. My husband and I stayed in the cottage. Normally, when we go on vacations, we are constantly on the go. This time was different. We enjoyed the hot tub, the fire pit, and the view. We can't stop talking about what a great time (relaxing time) we had. We will definitely be back.
This cabin was just as advertised, nestled on the side over a mountain overlooking the mountain river! A quick walk down the road leads to breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and landscapes. The cabin was perfect for 3 generations of my family and the wood burning fireplace and snow while we were there topped it all off. A quick 30 minute trip to Sugar Mountain for the kids to snow ski was very convenient and it's a very quick trip into Boone as well for walking around and enjoying local shops. We would definitely recommend you consider staying here if you are looking for a peaceful retreat during winter or summer! You won't regret it!
This place is a gem! Nestled between Boone and Banner Elk. Our Kids love it… We did snow tubing at Sugar Mountain and It’s near Boone Downtown and Blowing rock if you want to dine in the restaurants. The Briar patch is so cozy and warm. Perfect if you want to escape the busy life in the city. The jacuzzi and Bonfire made this place extremely awesome! Very clean and complete with all the kitchen equipment that you’ll need and the Hosts are very hospitable and welcoming. Thank you Briar Patch for making our winter break memorable. God bless you Jerome and Kellie!
We had a wonderful time staying at this unique and fun property. We hated we could only stay 2 nights. We stayed with our two young children who loved the bunk room! The main cabin is really wonderful. The second, smaller cabin is such a neat part of the property! We enjoyed eating dinner at the table outside. We have stayed at a lot of cabins over the years, and this one is cozy, but with plenty of space at the same time. The only thing I would add is something about the history of the cabin! I would've loved to have known the age of the original part of the cabin and where the buildings originated. Overall, we hope we can return and stay longer next time!
Debora, we're sorry we didn't meet up to your expectations this time, but we're always grateful for feedback and will work to improve your experience next time!

It's disappointing to get 4 stars when we work so hard to provide a 5-star experience... particularly when the guest didn't mention any problems at all. Even here in the review there is no mention of a problem. Oh well...
About the host
Hosted by Jerome Daley
Tom and Dan are the owners and live in Chapel Hill, NC where they enjoy getting up to the mountains as often as possible. With young children, they love to introduce them to the beauty and adventures in this natural wonderland... especially the serenity of the Watauga River.
Jerome and Kellie are the property concierge and live in Boone where they enjoy waking up to the mountains every day! They love hosting families in their boutique retreat homes and creating wonderful memories of this special area.
Why they chose this property
Valle Crucis feels like a step back in time to a simpler era. The Mast General store (both the original and the annex) exude the aura of yesteryear, and the expansive park invites picnics and playdates for the kids. Summertime brings Music in the Park every Friday night, and wintertime brings skiing on the nearby slopes. The Watauga River carries a magic all its own, whether you're looking for world-class fly fishing or simply chasing minnows around the bank. Lean back in the adirondack chairs around the firepit and unwind.
What makes this property unique
Unique defines the Briar Patch. There is simply nothing else like it. With hand-hewn timbers, original wood floors, a massive chandelier that soars above the great room, natural branch railings, and an adorable cottage out back, it is truly one of a kind. All this refined rustic charm is perched above the river with its stone boulders and meadow views. It is the epitome of relaxation and renewal.
