Relaxing home in a quiet neighborhood providing just the kind of retreat we were looking for. We enjoyed the view of the Coecles Harbor and the chance to read books and catch up with family in a beautiful setting.
Incredibly beautiful location on harbor with breathtaking sunrise - close to everything , well equipped, 2 comfortable masters and 2 smaller bedrooms - very homey
We had a wonderful time at Shelter Island. The ferry ride is easy from New London to Orient Point and then a short 5 minute ferry from Greenport to Shelter Island. If you’re looking for quiet beaches and beautiful views, this is the place. The property is serene with a lovely view of the harbor. It has beautiful bathrooms, cozy furniture to read a book and a great deck to watch boats go by. We were able to go crabbing right off the dock and had enough for a delicious crab corn chowder. We would definitely go back! Thank you for a wonderful vacation!

Thank you, Christine. We are delighted that you had such an exceptional time staying at our home. We hope you can come back soon. Thanks for being such a fantastic guest!
Staying on Shelter Island was pure bliss. Our family enjoyed a beautiful summer vacation together on shelter surrounded by beautiful nature, in a lovely house situated on Coecles Harbor. It was our first time on Shelter and we absolutely loved it. The beaches were beautiful, the saturday morning farmers market was great and the low key, relaxed vibe of the island were perfect. Edward the property owner was gracious and accommodating to our every need. We will definitely plan to return.

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! I’m thrilled that your family had such a memorable experience on Shelter Island. It’s always rewarding to hear that our guests enjoy the beauty of Coecles Harbor and the charm of the island, from the beaches to the farmers market. It was a pleasure hosting you, and I’m so glad to have been able to help make your stay enjoyable. I look forward to welcoming you all back for another relaxing escape!
As we drove down the block we realized there would be no photo to give you the feeling you would have going into the long driveway. The house sits on a beautiful large piece of property. The location is very peaceful. The view from the backyard was fantastic. The 🌅 sunrises were beautiful.
The house has a deck in the back perfect to have a nice dinner. One of my favorite area was the porch with windows and screens. A great place to work or sit and relax. The master bed and bath were perfect size and very accommodating. The other bedrooms were equally as nice. Everyone in my family felt it was one of the nicest homes we have rented. It was also the first time staying on Shelter Island and we love it. Our host was very timely helping us with any questions we had. The photos listed, but no photo could capture the beautiful, peaceful home and property
Lovely property and view. Hard to access water from dock as steps are not well maintained but the views are beautiful. The kitchen is very well equipped except guests should bring a knife sharpener ! All rooms are very well decorated and comfortable. Takes a genius to figure out audiovisual system and even the very accommodating host had difficulty trying to explain it. But we seldom wanted to watch VCR or TV and we loved our stay!
We enjoyed paddleboarding off the dock, particularly. We had to cut our visit a little short because of the storm. Plenty of nooks for people to work remotely. Edward was very responsive to any little request! Send beach towels overnight, et cetera.

Sally and her group were excellent guests. Friendly, responsive, and very nice. We hope they come back soon.
On the day we were set to depart, my grandson grabbed his fishing rod, walked down to the water, and caught himself a striped bass from the dock (no bait needed). It was a fitting end to a wonderful month-long stay on Shelter Island. Life couldn’t have been easier on North Cartwright. Each day, several times, we walked out the door and onto the dock to wash some lures or take a dip, relaxed in the living room overlooking Coecles Harbor, had a chat while completing a Puzzle of the North Ferry in 1815 on the lovely screened in porch, or took a lounge on the spacious deck. If baking is your thing, as it is mine, the kitchen is well stocked; cooking on the new grill (bought while we were there, as a matter of fact) was a breeze too. And through it all, Edward couldn’t have been more helpful. If we needed anything, he was happy to oblige. As for Shelter Island itself, this was our first time staying, and it exceeded our expectations, both for its spacious beauty and its calm pace of life. All in all, my family heartily recommends.
We stayed at Edward and Tracy’s oasis in Shelter island for a month. Words cannot express the magic of this house and property. We created lifelong memories, taking advantage of the amazing view, lawn and dock.
We came during C-19 to shelter in place and escape NYC and there couldn’t have been a more perfect place with ample workstations, super fast wifi, a kitchen with all the gadgets for your at-home chef dreams and tranquility in the beautifully made up bedrooms that felt like you were in a boutique hotel! Edward and Tracy really made us feel safe, making sure we had ample supplies and ensuring the house was fully sanitized before we stayed.
There is so much to do at the property that you don't ever need to leave including swimming off the dock, lovely picnics on the lawn at sun set, grilling on the patio, taking a bath that overlooks the water and meditating on the dock. This was perfect for us to shelter in place in shelter island :) Although we never really needed to leave we do highly recommend the lobster and oysters from Commander Cody after going for hikes in the nature preserve a mile away…!
We couldn’t recommend their home more, we feel very grateful for Edward and Tracy opening up their house and they were an absolute pleasure in all of our communications and all. We cannot wait to go back. Thank you Edward and Tracy!

Beautiful. Serene. Comfortable. Idyllic.
Rented this house for the month of June, 2018. Loved every second of it and hated to leave. The house is at the end of a quiet drive and looks out onto Coecles Harbor. The view is stunning. Everything about the house- the layout, the furniture, the linens, the view of the harbor- everything exudes beauty, comfort and calm. As if the house itself isn’t perfect enough, the owners Edward and Tracey are the nicest people you will ever speak to or meet. They are easy to work with, are very reasonable and accommodating, and responsive. I do not have the slightest negative comment to make about the house, the owners or my trip. If I could go back tomorrow I would.

Wonderful spot to experience Shelter Island
This home was a perfect spot for our 3 generations to spend time relaxing on and exploring Shelter Island. The master bedroom on the first floor and 3 additional private bedrooms on the second floor suited us well. The enormous yards both front and back made us feel we were the only ones on the Island. There was no one else in sight. We enjoyed cocktails and apps on the deck with the views of the water and under fabulous tall trees. The dock was a great place from which to swim and feel the warm sun. Without moving the car you can bike anywhere on the island or take long walks into the Center or out onto Ram Island. We also took a lovely walk through Mashomack Preserve which offers 12 miles of inland and coastal trails. An afternoon on Silver Beach provided some sand. The cozy living room was just the place to watch the storms across the water when we had a rainy day.

Shelter Island Home is a cozy delight for sisters' reunion.
Shelter Island was a very cool vacation destination. This rental house was charming. Bedrooms were very comfortable - providing excellent nights' sleep and spectacular sunrises over the water. Were snowed in one day but had brought in plenty of food so with hot coffee and tea and some DVDs, we were set. So easy to use the ferry to get to wineries on the north fork and sightseeing and shopping on the south fork. It was a great stay. Perhaps we will try this again when the weather is warmer. Thank you Edward for your hospitality.

Amazing Stay!!
We are old hats at the Home Away game and have stayed in many many homes over the years. Our trip of 4 nights during the Thanksgiving holiday to this lovely Shelter Island property was really amazing. This is property must be ranked as one of the best amongst some pretty tough competitors. Firstly, the owner Edward was absolutely fantastic to work with. He is a consummate professional, responsive, and so communicative, and simply said, so nice. Secondly, the home was exactly as described: clean, serene, functional, historic but cozy, relaxing, and so user-friendly. We spent time walking the grounds, cooking in the kitchen that overlooks the harbor, and sitting by roaring fires while sipping Irish Coffees, what could be better? To top it all off, the house truly feels like a home, not a rarely used second house.
Aside from the great photos and look of the property, part of the reason we wanted to stay at the home was all of the great previously written reviews. After our stay, I am happy to add to that roster and we will plan to surely be back again.
Edward - thank you again for all of the communications leading up to our trip, it was a blast!

Amazing Stay - Perfect Home!
We are "old hats" at the Home Away game and have rented properties all over the country, some were great, some were subpar. This Shelter Island home is ranked at the very top of the list for many reasons. Firstly, Edward (property owner) was absolutely amazing to communicate with. He is flexible, communicative, and so helpful. Secondly, the house itself was more than a house, it truly is a home. It is warm, cozy, clean, and has a real cared for feel. Unlike some home rentals, where you feel that the property is a second house used for income and seldom cared for and enjoyed by the actual owners, this home feels very lived in, loved, and very up to date. You feel that in the home immediately upon entering! Further, the property was beautiful, quiet, serene, and a the home has a real "step out of time" while still feeling so comfortable, what a perfect blend, just amazing (house dates to the early 1800's).
The kitchen is highly functional, the bedrooms are clean and quaint, all linens were in top repair, and the fireplace (wood burning) was just awesome for those cold nights. The house was larger than we expected, but still very comfortable for a small party of just two! Really delightful.
The house, property, and the fantastic owner make this an easy answer to any desired seaside North East vacation. We are looking forward to many returns in the future. It was an awesome 4 day holiday. Thank you again, Edward!!

Peaceful Getaway with Gorgeous views
Our 2nd year at Ed's shelter island house. House was clean and well kept. House is just as pictures show. We had 8 of us 4 adults and 4 kids. Kids enjoyed all activities we bought with us on the well kept yard. We had power wheels, bikes, slip-in slide, a pool, corn hole, catch baseball &football, we brought a small blow up pool and kayaks. We had our boat out on the dock which was great we went somewhere everyday. House was pleanty of room for us and look forward to going back for years to come. I would recommend this house to anyone going to shelter island for a vacation as it has gorgeous views of harbor and very peaceful property.

Delightful stay in Shelter Island
We stayed at Ed's house this summer around Labor Day weekend. It's a charming house with nice bedrooms and bathrooms that look just like the pictures. Almost every room has a beautiful view of the harbor. The grounds are nicely shaded by old walnut and maple trees with plenty of room for our young kids (3 and 5) to play in either the front or the back yard. Our older son didn't want to leave.
Although the weather was bad, we still had plenty of diversions. We saw a family of wild turkeys nearly every day patrolling the neighborhood. We also caught several fish off the dock and spotted crabs, birds, and even a sea turtle in the harbor. At many points, Ed checked in to make sure we were having a good stay. In advance of a bad storm, he checked in to make sure we would be prepared.
We had a great time and hope to be back soon. Thanks Ed!

Idyllic for Creative/Strtgic/Family Getaways of Entreprnrs, Politicos/Diplmts, Writers Seeking Prvc
Loved this property so much that less than a month later, I was back again, spending overall nearly 2 weeks there all together, by myself, and finding new inspiration every minute. If you're an entrepreneur, celebrity, diplomat, politico, writer seeking to do some privacy-ensuring R&R, visionary work/thinking by yourself or with your close cadre, away from the nosy scene of the Hamptons, this is the island and this is the property.
Located right on the harbor, with its own dock put in by Ed just a few years ago, and some of the best views on the Eastern seaboard, it provides the perfect, absolutely perfect ambiance for creative/strategic/visionary work, be it summer on the veranda or in the living room by the fireplace, overlooking the harbor, boats floating around it, and $25mm mansions accross it. In the summer, the sunsets over the harbor are unbeatable and the plethora of birds dancing in the air and squirrels, chipmonks, and deer playing in your 2 acres of land between the house and the water, is just magical. Inside, Ed's wife did a superb job decorating - the house has a charming, slightly rustic (and hence even more charming) feel to it, with fully renovated bathrooms, and overall Hamptons' style decor that will suit even the pickiest. If you're looking for Aman Resorts, Mandarin Oriental or One & Only, this isn't it. If you're looking for the best alternative to a destination club's villa or a chalet, a lodge/chalet/cottage, this is a charmer at an incredibly affordable price with an owner that truly cares for the property and for its guests (Ed, hope you won't hike up the price on me in the future after this comment :)).
The property has absolutely everything you will need - you just need to show up with your groceries and a cook (if you want one). I came by myself, did not have a car (Hampton Jitney (North Fork to Greenport) from Manhattan>8min ferry ride from there to Shelter Island >short 5min taxi ride and in 2hrs, you're door-to-door); and didn't get out of the property AT ALL, except every morning for jogs around the island - some of the best I've had globally - truly phenomenal views, great air, and very friendly fellow joggers from all walks of life, if you decide to strike up a conversation.
Ed, thanks for your incredible hospitality. Look forward to coming back!

Best Place on Shelter Island
We rented Ed's place for 5 days in June 2016. We are a family of 5, 3 young kids, ages 9, 7 and 3, and we had guests for two nights. The house is perfect, the waterfront location has an amazingly breathtaking view. You can sit outdoors by the grill, stare at the water, eat outdoors staring at the water, basically do everything while taking in the view. The owners were fantastic, responsive to everything we needed and they made a lot of great recommendations for where to eat, what to do, what beaches to try etc. This is a great place to escape the bustle of the city with family and friends and to really and truly relax!

family fun
I booked this waterfront property for my family and my girlfriends family to spend time together and relax we all loved the house and property , from the quaint fully restored 200 year old farm style house to the spacious 2 acre property. I brought my 21 FT center console fishing boat and docked it at the floating dock at the end of our own 100 FT pier dock to fish the extensive fishing grounds surrounding the island. we also took friends and family out tubing and to private beaches to explore what a blast thanks for the memories

Home on the Harbor
We stayed here for a long weekend during the 2015 Memorial Day Holiday. The House is so charming with unmatched views overlooking Coecles Harbor across a beautiful lawn with the perfect number of old-growth shade trees. We had everything we could ask for to satisfy the needs of our family which ranged from 3 children under the age of 5 up to the In-Laws enjoying quality time with the grandchildren! Everyone remarked all weekend long how peaceful and tranquil the views and home were to experience.
Truthfully, we barely got started exploring and experiencing all that this property has to offer before we had to return to reality. Looking forward to the chance we can visit again! The owners are incredibly helpful and very accommodating.

Charming Cottage and Terrific Owners
We had a wonderful multi-week stay here. The house is as charming as advertised. We swam off the dock every day. Also kept my 20' sailboat at the dock and had great fun sailing in Gardner's bay. Topping it all off, the owners were a delight to deal with as we settled in and got our bearings. If you're considering this property give it a go, you'll be glad you did!
