Absolutely Perfect!

  • 5 of 5

Our family of 8 stayed at this lovely home in early October, 2017 and we absolutely loved the house...the layout, the view, the amenities, the cleanliness and most importantly the great responsiveness of the owner Bruce. We loved the dock and wished we had a boat to explore the beautiful lake with, but it was nice catching some rays and enjoying the peacefulness of the beautiful surroundings. We loved all of the wildlife! We say many deer, an armadillo, several eagles, a lizard, a harmless rat snake, and many more beautiful birds. Lake James is absolutely beautiful and this house is perfect! We would definitely stay there again. Thank you!

Beautiful house, breath taking view

  • 4 of 5

Each summer, my husband and I enjoy spending time with our adult children and their families. This year, we had 10 people, including the newest member, our 9 month old grandson. This house was perfect for us. There are 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 2 living rooms, a large dinner table and a comfortable back porch with an awesome view of the lake and the mountains. The kitchen was large enough to accommodate several people preparing food. We cook dinner every night and ate together at the dinner table.

The kids enjoyed having the downstairs area for watching TV and playing games. There was a ping pong table, which was a family favorite, and a downstairs refrigerator/wet bar. Since our grandson is walking, we were thankful to find a baby gate at the house.

We rented a pontoon boat from a local marina. The dock at the house easily fit the boat, it was surrounded by 3 sides making entering and exiting the boat safe for everyone. We spent a great deal of time at the lake, either boating, swimming or fishing. The swimming was wonderful, the water was warm (our vacation was in August) and there was a ladder from the dock into the water.

The only difficult part was that the lake was approximately 140 steps down from the house. This required us to plan our trips and make sure we took everything with us to the water. Fortunately we had several strong men who could carry kayaks, cools down for us. If someone had knee/mobility issues, they would have trouble getting to/from the lake. Personally, I didn't mind the wooden steps; however, prior to the steps there was a gradual slope covered with mulch and occasional stone steps. I found these more difficult to navigate, especially after the rain.

We would definitely return to this house, even with the long steps to the lake. The spacious, comfortable house was worth the walk to/from the lake and we didn't have anyone with mobility issues.

Really nice rental

  • 5 of 5

The property is situated on a rise making the views of the mountains and the lake truly spectacular. The home is well appointed and comfortable. We brought our boat over and kept it moored at the dock below the house which was very convenient. It is a hike to get down to the water, but we had 3 strong men to carry all our stuff up and down so it wasn't a problem for us. Lake James is a beautiful clean lake with many islands you can beach your boat up to so the kids enjoyed several great beach days while we were there. We also brought a "lily pad" with us which we tied to the dock- it's basically a water mat and our little ones loved playing around on that as well. We all enjoyed the outdoor deck off the great room but especially the adults after the kids went to bed spent some great nights hanging out there in the cool bug free mountain air. It proved to be a great choice for our family's summer get together. We enjoyed it immensely.

Beautiful house and amazing views

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our vacation on Lake James. The house comfortably accommodated 10 people. The homeowner provided great restaurant recommendations and information about the nearby boat launches. It was a bit of a hike down to the dock so we usually packed to spend the day on the water. The lower deck provided shade and a place to rest while playing in the water. Wish there was seating though...luckily we had some camp chairs. The water was clean and warm. The lake had limited boat traffic especially during the week. Highly recommend this property and lake.

Beautiful mountain and lake views

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for a week at the end of June and had a wonderful time. The house is spacious, well maintained, clean and has famtastic views of Lake James and the mountains. We ate every meal out on the deck so that we could enjoy the views - although the lake side of the house is all floor to ceiling windows so you could enjoy the views from inside as well. We don't own a boat so we explored the area and found Black Mountain (lovely mountain town, golf) and Catawba Falls (good hike to waterfalls) to be about 1/2 hour away, Asheville is about 45 minutes away. The homeowner let us use his kayaks which were great fun for all. As far as the stairs to the lake are concerned - forewarned is forearmed. They are steep and long but we all managed to get up and down several times a day, some of us stopping to catch our breath more often than others! I think to make the very most of your vacation at this home it would be good to either have your own boat or make arrangements to rent a boat through the homeowner or perhaps at the marina. The homeowner was very easy to work with and provided lots of brochures, maps and other helpful info at the house to ease in exploring the area. We highly recommend this rental.
