About this property

On Beautiful Mount Desert Island

During peak season the house is rented weekly only. Friday to Friday. Peak season being mid June to mid September.
Newman Cottage is a three bedroom, one bath home located in Southwest Harbor Maine, on the “Quiet Side” of Mount Desert Island. This home is the perfect choice for the budget-minded traveler who does not wish to sacrifice comfort over expense. The kitchen is fully appliance and is adjacent to the dining room, seating up to 8. The spacious living room allows for socializing or TV watching at the end of a busy day. The house sleeps six people, having two queens and two twins. All sheets and towels are provided. Newman Cottage holds a right of way to the Manset Shore. Just a short five minute walk to the beach. Seawall picnic area and Bass Harbor Lighthouse are just minutes away as well. Southwest Harbor has bike/kayak/boat rentals, sailing, golfing, shopping, restaurants, groceries, drug store, and playground. Easy access to several lakes, biking and hiking trails. Close to Acadia National Park Activities. Only 20 minutes from Bar Harbor. See Cadillac Mountain, Thunder Hole, Jordan Pond House, or Park Loop Road. Go whale watching, or take a ferry to Swan's Island or Islesford. Our property is NON-smoking.

Quiet, comfortable and lovely!

This is a great cottage in a great location. We loved spending our days kayaking and hiking, with peaceful breaks on the enclosed porch, plus cooking in the well stocked kitchen absolutely would stay again!

My family stayed here for a week and we loved it. The house was beautiful, the hosts we're gracious, and we really appreciated the thoughtful items the home was supplied with, including plenty of books, toys and games for the kids. Amazing location as well, walkable to the ocean and close to downtown southwest harbor. Highly recommend.

This was the third time my family and I have stayed here. We love location because it is away from all of the over touristy areas. The house is very clean and homey and goes above and beyond to provide anything you may need.we love it!

Perfect stay!

Like previous reviews said, the house was perfectly outfitted with everything we could possibly need, and thoughtful extras too. There was some minor issue after we just checked in, but Joe quickly came over to fix it. Location is quite convenient too being very close to the beach. We really enjoyed the stay - the kids didn’t want to leave at the end of the week. We hope to visit again!

We stayed September 13 to September 20, 2025. We loved Newman Cottage Joe and Bobbi had everything we needed. Very clean Farmhouse. It was a short distance from all the trails and tours we did. We saw plenty of deer in the yard every day. Our family played games that were well stocked in the Farmhouse. Check in and out was so easy…we will be booking again in the future.

Wonderful visit

We had a wonderful visit to Maine and would highly recommend staying at Newmans cottage. We were able to visit Acadia and also spend time exploring the quiet side as well. The hosts and property were great!

Wonderful experience

The home was the cleanest vrbo I’ve ever visited. It had everything we needed. We were able to easily drive to all of the Acadia hikes, Bar Harbor, Bass Harbor, and Southwest Harbor from this location. We loved staying on the quieter side of the island. We explored the beach almost every night and enjoyed finding sea creatures in the tide pools.

It was a great little house!
