About the property

Condo, 2 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 2 Baths, (Sleeps 6)

Our clean, contemporary, spacious upper unit condo has vaulted ceilings an automatic pellet stove to keep you warm on those cold evenings after a long day on the slopes or out in the wilderness. Downstairs, it has a nicely equipped kitchen with a great, cold fridge to keep your favorite après ski beverage frosty. The living room has two large recliners and a couch with two “lazy boy” seats built in, perfect for viewing the 51 inch HDTV or napping. The master bedroom has a comfortable king sized bed, a large window with beautiful lightning and a full size dresser for all your belongings. Out on the balcony you can soak in the sun from the southern exposure and grill your favorite food. The upstairs bedroom has two sets of bunk beds, TV, xbox 360 and some some games provided for the kids to hang out, watch movies or play games.

In the winter when it is time to relax and unwind there is a Jacuzzi just out the door and down the stairs. And during the spectacular summers there is a tennis court, pool, horseshoe and picnic area just steps away from the unit.

Skiers will appreciate the “Green line” shuttle that puts you at Eagle Lodge and on the slopes in minutes. No driving, no fighting for a parking, no looking for a locker, just head to the end of our parking lot and grab a seat on the bus, after all it is the first stop and there is never anyone on the bus at this point!

About Brian Shockley

We are a family of four that thrives on activity. Our two children play soccer, basketball, Volleyball and football. As a family, we ski, backpack, mountain bike, golf and fish. We love the outdoors! We live in Santa Clarita, Ca and often take our two dogs with us on our outings.

Brian Shockley purchased this condo in 2007

Why Brian Shockley chose Mammoth Mountain

We would like you to you know the following about our family: After years of growing up with tremendous childhood family experiences in Mammoth, we decided to purchase the condo in 2007 and share that experience with our children. Our goal is to continue that tradition of family fun and outdoor adventure with our children, and to provide the same experience for all our friends and acquaintances, with a low cost, cozy, and inviting place for all to enjoy year round.

What makes this condo unique

Our comfortable place is walking distance to local restaurants bars and grocery stores. You can drink a local brew at Grumpy’s and watch your favorite team, or enjoy a margarita and some great Mexican food at Roberto’s and several other local favorite places. If you prefer a home cooked meal, Von’s grocery is only a block or two away and you can prepare any of your favorite meals in our nicely equipped kitchen. You can do it your way!

Good value rental in Mammoth.

  • 4 of 5

This second floor unit was spacious and very clean. The kitchen was well equipped and there's plenty of seating at the breakfast bar. We self-catered and there's a Vons supermarket three minutes drive away so it was easy to get supplies. The laundry facilities are in a separate building near the pool, you will need lots of quarters as the machines are coin operated. Having two bathrooms was great as teenage daughter could have her own. Entry instructions worked well. The property is less than a five minute drive from the centre of Mammoth, and as we visited off- season it was pretty quiet. Talking of quiet, bear in mind that you will have neighbours at this property and do expect to hear them and they'll hear you too! Only two issues need attention; the master bed needs repairing as it's very creaky and we couldn't get the PlayStation to work. Overall a good rental in Mammoth.

Owner's Response: Andy, thanks for the comments and feedbck. We have recently purchased a new king bedroom suit and plan to have it in place sometime next month for the upcoming ski season. We will have to look into the PS2 to see what the issue may be there. You are correct about having neighbors as with any condo complex you may hear some noise from time to time but being on the upper level minimizes that. Thanks again, Brian and Tina

We had a good time

  • 4 of 5

We were very happy with the place. We had contacted the owners prior to booking since we were concerned about the recent posting about the smell issue. Brian told us that they were having a deep clean done on the place - including the furniture and carpet. It looked and smelled great when we got there. We thought the accommodations were accurately described and enjoyed using the onsite amenities. The only thing we struggled with was the heat on the last couple of nights of our stay. The upstairs bedroom got very warm and even though we had the ceiling fan going all night and had opened the windows it was hard to sleep. I'm sure we could have gotten this resolved had we contacted the owners, but we kept trying different things on our own or felt it was too late to call. I would recommend placing a box fan in the window to draw in cold air from the outside in the evenings. I wish I could give 4.5 stars, but the system won't allow me.

Great location, but improvements needed!

  • 3 of 5

The very first morning we were there we were abruptly woken up at 7:40am to workers banging on our door. They wanted to paint the inside frame of the front door and needed it to remain open for a couple hours to dry. Needless to say, this wasn't how we wanted to spend our first morning in Mammoth when we had so looked forward to sleeping in (and for once our children were fast asleep). The owner said they had no idea that work was going to be taking place and was apologetic., so I understand they had no control over this. Still, it was very irritating since we were on vacation.

While the condo is in a great location and we loved the amenities like the pool, jacuzzi and tennis court, as well as how close the condo was to them, there were some things that were very hard to overlook. While I can forgive an outdated looking condo if it's clean and is a good value for the $$, this place just didn't smell or feel fresh. Everytime we sat on the sofas we could smell a funky odor. The sofas should be completely replaced. The carpet was dirty and stained. I had to tell my children not to lay on the ground as it just didn't feel clean. The carpets need a big steam cleaning or full replacement. The entire condo had a funk odor and just felt dirty and old.

I was surprised that this place has so many 5-star reviews. I've stayed in many many rentals over the years and rarely complain or leave reviews. Most places are to my satisfaction, but cleanliness is a deal breaker for me. If I smell something gross, that pretty much ruins it for me and my husband. While the condo is in a great location and it has enough comfy beds for everyone, it not only needs updating, but also a big scrub down and maybe installment of an air diffuser. Although we adore Mammoth Lakes and want to visit once a year, sorry, we won't be returning to stay at this condo again.

Owner's Response: Hi Rachael, we appreciate the feedback on our condo, I am sorry to her that you were not satisfied with the cleanliness. We make every effort to ensure that it is kept clean for guests but in this case we fell short. We typically have the carpet and sofas cleaned twice a year, as it is not uncommon for renters to stain the carpets with debris from ski equipment, boots in particular. Based on your comments we are adding an additional carpet and sofa cleaning service to remedy any possible cleanliness and odor issues that may exist. Thanks again for the feedback and I hope you will reconsider staying with us in the future. Sincerely, Brian and Tina Shockley

Couldn't ask for a better experience. Condo was nice and cozy, really close to the resort, walking distance from old town Mammoth. I would love to stay at this property again!

Great Mammoth Ski Trip

  • 5 of 5

Overall this was a great last minute condo booking for a Mammoth Ski Trip. The condo was the perfect size for the 6 of us and the large kitchen with ample counter space was helpful for cooking with all the utensils and pots/pans needed to cook a meal. The condo was clean and had extra pillows and blankets. It was nice and toasty and we were never cold. Having two bathrooms was a plus and the proximity of the spa was very nice. With 6 people in our group not having to deal with a key and using the keyless entry was ideal. Lots of storage space for boards and boots/jackets. Really great price for the accommodations. It was walking distance to Rafters and Grumpy's and the mammoth shuttle picked up right outside the complex. I would definitely stay again!

Great condo and location!

  • 5 of 5

This condo was perfect for our family! I spent most of the time on mountain with my two young boys, however my wife stayed in the condo most days and was able to walk all around town to shop and pick up food from some great restaraunts. The listing is very accurate, however the only thing I noticed is that we couldn't get the playstation upstairs to work... not sure if it's broken or we just don't know how to use it. The owner gave us clear instructions on how to get to and use all the amenities. I would recommend this unit!
