As Great as Promised

  • 5 of 5

So many VRBO units look great online, and then you get there and it's more Meh than Wow! But this cottage was every bit as good as we hoped. I have stayed in probably 100 VRBO units over the last decade or two, and this is the second best one (#1 was in Hawaii and impossible to beat). The Lavendar cottage is very well laid out, with a great, updated and spacious kitchen and a wrap around patio. There are actually 3 bedrooms here, not 2, so you could sleep 6 here. The bedrooms were nice, had good mattresses, and secluded and comfortable. The bathrooms are fine too and include a ton of extra toiletries in case you need anything. Also the kitchen had a lot of food basics for cooking, which is great so that you don't have to buy salt and pepper and butter and stuff like that to cook.

It's a funky neighborhood, but really nice trees and interesting houses and landscaping and great for walks. Lots of birds and squirrels doing battle. Also saw several deer in a field nearby. The cottage sits atop an arroyo, sort of surrounded by other houses, but there are so many trees around that you really don't notice the other houses, giving you the feeling of having your own quiet retreat.

The TV in the main room is fine, along with TV's in both bedrooms. We used the gas fireplace which was nice (but required a long stretch to light). We used the grill on the deck and it was fine too, and we ate both indoors at a large kitchen table and outdoors on the patio.

The only negatives, and these are very minor, are that the driveway is a bit tricky to pull into. The tree leaves on the patio are kind of sharp, but is just an issue if you are barefoot. The website shows a wine cellar, but that was not available. The owner and the neighborhood value their peace and quiet, so if you have a rowdy group, you should look elsewhere. The arroyo carries sound very easily.

The unit is just a mile or two from town, with a great produce stand very close, as well as a coffee house and bakery. We were about 5 minutes from wineries and tasting rooms in Sonoma, and about 45 minutes to get to Napa.

The owner was really nice and professional to deal with. The price was fair and a much better value and property than staying at a hotel or corporate property. I would absolutely stay here again. 1500 sq ft is perfect for a group of 4-6, the kitchen and main room are great, the patio is beautiful and tree-shrowded, the bedrooms are comfy, and the location is solid. I highly recommend!

Great Sonoma house!

  • 5 of 5

If you're destination is California wine country, this must be your rental. Close to everything. Five minute drive to downtown Sonoma, an hour to San Francisco, an hour to Goat Rock Beach which is a must-see, 30 minutes to Napa. Everything is at your fingertips. The house is great. Very spacious and comfortable. When we come back we will stay here again if it's available.

Enjoyed Our Stay

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed staying at the Lavender Hill Cottage. The home is well furnished and was great for our two (2) couples.

I would definitely recommend this home and its centrally located for both Sonoma and Napa winery visits.

The perfect spot to launch and land!

  • 5 of 5

Lavender Hill Cottage provided the perfect spot for our party of four to explore and enjoy Sonoma County. We began each day on the expansive back/side deck, and ended each evening in front of the living room's gas fireplace. The kitchen was well-stocked to prepare and serve every meal, and the bathrooms supplied everything a guest could need. Beds are comfortable and closets offer plenty of space for luggage, hanging clothes, and shoes. The homeowners' "take one, leave one" policy for the wine fridge is a very hospitable touch! We would love to vacation in Sonoma again, and Lavender Hill would definitely be our home rental of choice!

Perfect for our purposes!

  • 5 of 5

This was a father-daughter trip...father being almost 87 and daughters in mid 50s! The house was perfect for us...3 bedrooms, two baths, a living/kitchen area where we hang out most of the time. Loved the easy firelplace in the mornings and evenings. The wine cooler was so,! The idea is you can pull bottles out as long as you replace something similar on the honor system. Especially nice first night. Then we found nearby grocery stores, restaurants. All you need is there... I packed some Splenda and coffee and all was swell. Even found a small ice chest in the garage so we could carry cheese etc for a day of wineries. It may or may not be decorated in your style but it is very comfortable with all you need. Thank you for a memorable stay!!! PS If you are a yard or bird person, you will be delighted!
