Built by our great grandparents, we three close siblings, John, Ben, and Katharine, co-own this property which has been in our family since 1923. We have all been going to North Haven island for over 40 years and hope to never miss a summer there!
Owner/Manager purchased this House in 2013
Why Owner/Manager chose North Haven
This is a truly unique island, free of commercialization yet offering all the amenities that make a vacation unique. With only 335 year-round residents, you can enjoy the waterfront at your doorstep. In addition to exploring the unbelievable island of North Haven, there is also the charming town of Vinalhaven to explore as well as Vinalhaven's warm, natural quarries. Hundreds of uninhabited islands surround North Haven and can be accessed by short boat rides. They are perfect for picnics, hiking, and roaming.
What makes this House unique
Our home sits right on the thoroughfare close to town. You can feel connected to the hustle and bustle, while also enjoying the privacy the house provides. The property provides stunning views, with easy access to both land and water alike.

Wonderful, as always
We had another perfect monthlong stay in this property this July. The gracious (and spacious) house in the ideal location, close to town but feeling private—and with beautiful views for breakfast on the deck as well as sunset viewing. There is so much to do on this small island, with friendly people to meet as well. The owners are responsive and easy to deal with. It’s really the perfect package.
Gorgeous views on a quaint island
My family and I have stayed here twice and both times we stayed in September. September is a wonderful time in Maine and especially on North Haven. The summer crowds have dwindled, but things have not quite shut down for the season. You can still visit the local shops, farms and restaurants during limited hours and you have a lot of time for peace and quiet. We absolutely loved staying at this property. The owners are very pleasant and easy to deal with. The house is very spacious while still being cozy and charming. The views from the deck are spectacular and offers one of the best sunset views on the whole island. My dad really enjoyed getting up early to have coffee on the deck and watch the lobster boats go out. You could easily spend the whole day on the deck just watching the boats coming and going. There were a couple days when watched the fog roll and in and completely envelope us within minutes. It was magical to watch. Luckily when the weather changed there was a cozy living room with lots of games and a fire to keep us warm. The kitchen is also large and accommodating. We spent several evenings sitting around the large kitchen table talking. The island is small, but there is a lot to keep you busy. Right down the road you will find a short walk up Ames Knob that will give you an amazing aerial view of multiple harbors. There are beautiful rock beaches that are great for exploring and having picnics. You can also bring bikes and ride around the whole island in a few hours. I highly recommend this property to anyone who is looking for a relaxing vacation with a little adventure.
Wonderful, spacious home in a great location
We have rented this house for three summers now, using it for a full month in 2017 and 2018. The location is perfect, an easy walk or bike ride into town, while feeling private and serene. The views from the property are fantastic, enjoyed from the spacious back deck (perfect for a morning cup of tea or evening appetizers and drinks) and from the windows throughout the house. The house itself feels like a real home, clean, well maintained and furnished like a lovely family home and not a rental or hotel, well equipped with kitchen utensils and appliances, towels and bedding, and just about anything you could need. Every bedroom is appealing, and all the space makes for a relaxing stay even for larger family gatherings in that people aren't on top of each other. The pictures on the website are accurate, although they perhaps don't fully convey the charm and character of the house.
The owners are friendly and responsive and have great suggestions for activities on the island. Our family loves to bike the loop of the island, hike to the top of Ames Knob (so close and offering a spectacular vista), hike also Mullins Head Park, jog and run along all the roads (safe and user-friendly), swim from the dock, kayak, go to readings at the Library and weekly artists' shows at the gallery, patronize the North Haven Brewery and Calderwood Hall (best cinnamon rolls!), visit the local farms for the freshest produce, meats and cheeses, and baked goods, and just enjoy the serenity that comes with being in such a beautiful place.
In other words, this house is pretty much perfect.
We LOVED our accommodations!
We were blown away by our WONDERFUL accommodations! Three of our immediate families stayed together in this spacious, gorgeous, BEAUTIFUL home. We were on North Haven for our daughter's wedding weekend. Honestly, it could not have been more perfect for us!!! The location, the layout, the spaciousness of the house and the yard - nothing could have been more perfect! Our family will DEFINITELY come back at some point in the future.....
Thank you! We can't wait for your return. Your welcome back any time!
The quintessential Maine experience!
The house is full of new England charm and perfectly equipped to accommodate many people of various ages. The house is clean and comfortable. There is an incredible view from every window and an adventure waiting to happen. Fresh lobster delivered to the dock, blueberry bushes to be picked, boats to be rowed, and islands to be explored all within a short bike ride to "downtown' . The owners are knowledgeable , gracious and very accommodating. We will definitely return!
We had a wonderful few weeks here and wished we could have stayed longer. The house was very pleasant, pretty and well-maintained, with beautiful views and a fun shared boat house. Highly recommend.
Thanks for you positive review - you were GREAT renters and would love to have you back year after year.

North Haven island is a small, unique lobstering island off the coast of Maine. North Haven, one of Maine's fourteen unbridged island communities, lies in Penobscot Bay approximately twelve miles from the mid coast city of Rockland. It is served by a Maine Department of Transportation ferry making three round trips a day from Rockland. The island's ferry link is of course dependent on the whims of wind and tide.
Its year-round population of 355 swells in July and August with the return of families who own or rent seasonal homes on the Island. In 2014, North Haven celebrates the 167th anniversary of its name day (and its 168th year of independence from Vinalhaven).
North Haven is an island town proud of its traditions, its treasured natural beauty and its unique community of twelfth generation natives, fourth (as well as first) generation seasonal residents, retired and pre-retired baby boomers, maverick spirits, new arrivals, young year-round families, old bachelors, reconstructed hippies, young farmers, not-so-young Grangers, artists, straights and gays, sailors, artisans, fishermen, ne'er-do-wells, boat-builders, babies, politicians (of past, present and future renown), actors, makers-of-many-things, brides, romantics and curmudgeons. There is overlap among these categories.
