About Donna

We've been happily married for 51 years this year, and have enjoyed traveling around the country in our camping van for the past 15 years, since retiring from our hectic careers. We were so often drawn back to the Black Mountain / Asheville area, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, that we finally realized we needed to own a little piece of it. Finding, restoring, and updating our little 'Black Mountain Hideaway' has been a dream come true. We love this cozy, romantic little place so much that we've decided to share it with others when we can't be here. Our wish is for you to enjoy this tranquil home and wonderful area as much as we do.

Donna purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Donna chose Black Mountain

We chose Black Mountain because no matter where you look, you are surrounded by these beautiful mountains, and each season has its own special appeal. The local people always have a welcoming smile for you. Most of the shops and restaurants are pet friendly, and often have water bowls and dog treats handy. There is a wonderful variety of activities and entertainment venues in this area. Fantastic outdoor life all seasons.

What makes this cabin unique

We love returning to this quiet, cozy cabin after a busy day of shopping or sightseeing for a relaxed evening in front of the fireplace, or by the outdoor firepit. Even a lazy day at home is a treat. Some of our favorite Black Mountain restaurants are 'My Father's Pizza' for the best crust we've ever had, 'Ole Quacamole's' for their authentic Mexican meals, and the 'Veranda Cafe' for their fantastic homemade soups and sandwiches. We often enjoy afternoon coffee at the 'Dripolator', or yummy treats at the 'Black Mountain Bakery'. All of these favorites have cozy outdoor dining as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is our first time to Black Mountain NC and we couldn't be more pleased with what was waiting for us. This mountain hideaway cabin with its majestic view of the High Top mountain peaks came alive each night with unobstructed views of the sparkling night sky and hills dotted with glimpses of distant house lights. The best part was waking up during the night and it was all still there, right outside our windows all around the master bedroom and living room. Unbelievable! We started every morning with a short walk to nearby Cheshire, for coffee and more, which we really recommend doing (we brought our two maltese dogs - this is a very dog friendly area). Spent time in the town of Black Mountain, eating, shopping, meeting the friendly shop owners and locals. Always looked forward to returning to our cozy cabin for an afternoon out on the deck. We really loved our stay here at Black Mountain Hideaway and definitely want to return over and over (perhaps hitting all the seasons). A BIG thanks to the owners for making their home so welcoming and warm. Can't wait to come back!

Black Mountain Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying in Donna and Jerry's Black Mountain Hideaway. You truly get the feeling of being tucked away in the mountains while being within minutes of downtown Black Mountain. We enjoyed a weekend of mountain biking, enjoying local brews and eats, and our yellow lab absolutely loved exploring around the property. Thank you for accommodating us and taking care of the small details. We will certainly return.

Cozy and Convenient

  • 4 of 5

This space is cozy with all of the amenities you could want for a trip to the mountains. There were four of us, and there was enough room for all of us. We lived on the porch and around the fire pit, but the cable TV setup indoors is pretty extensive. A few spaces could use dusting, but overall it was rather clean. Donna was helpful and responsive. We genuinely enjoyed our stay!

Peaceful Getaway--Helpful Owners

  • 5 of 5

Tucked away in the woods but convenient to town, Black Mountain Hideaway was a perfect location for us. It's secluded and peaceful, the cabin is nicely outfitted, and the mountain view from the back porch & hot tub is lovely! There's no dishwasher, but we definitely appreciated having the full-sized washer and dryer available. I was about to write a positive review when I realized I'd left some clothes hanging in the wardrobe. I called Donna and Gerry, and they immediately set about getting the clothes to me. Extra kudos for going above and beyond--thank you!! We had hoped to glimpse a bear while we were there, as some other visitors had, but I guess we'll just have to come back and try again!

Perfect location

  • 4 of 5

Just south of Black Mountain proper, the Hideaway was the perfect location from which to explore the area. We loved Black Mountain, Asheville, and Pisgah. Close to entrances to the Blue Ridge Parkway and lots of trails in the area. Beautiful view from the back windows of the house / back porch. Wonderful black bear sighting just around the corner on the mountain (drive slowly!). Kitchen had the basics. Lots of clean towels. Having a washer & dryer was super helpful for a week's stay.

Very homey with amazing view!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed for 2 nights and loved every minute of it! The house is great and has everything you need. The view is even better! We really didn’t leave the back porch! My husband loved the dulcimer! I was able to get some really good videos and pictures of him playing and the mountains! Also enjoyed the town. Everyone was very friendly and it has unique little shops all over. We will definitely be returning!

Quiet cabin with a tucked away feel that is not far from shopping and hiking.

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I enjoyed our two night stay here. Just what we needed from a weekend escape from Raleigh. The cabin is very easy to locate with only a few turns off the route 9. We loved the back deck’s Mountain View as we sipped coffee Saturday and Sunday morning. This cabin had everything we needed to prepare a couple of meals. It’s always nice to find a home away from home that is pet friendly. Our dogs were very comfortable and enjoyed the nearby hiking on the Rocky Knob Trail. We hope to stay here again soon!
