About Donna

We've been happily married for 51 years this year, and have enjoyed traveling around the country in our camping van for the past 15 years, since retiring from our hectic careers. We were so often drawn back to the Black Mountain / Asheville area, and the Blue Ridge Mountains, that we finally realized we needed to own a little piece of it. Finding, restoring, and updating our little 'Black Mountain Hideaway' has been a dream come true. We love this cozy, romantic little place so much that we've decided to share it with others when we can't be here. Our wish is for you to enjoy this tranquil home and wonderful area as much as we do.

Donna purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Donna chose Blue Ridge Mountains

We chose Black Mountain because no matter where you look, you are surrounded by these beautiful mountains, and each season has its own special appeal. The local people always have a welcoming smile for you. Most of the shops and restaurants are pet friendly, and often have water bowls and dog treats handy. There is a wonderful variety of activities and entertainment venues in this area. Fantastic outdoor life all seasons.

What makes this cabin unique

We love returning to this quiet, cozy cabin after a busy day of shopping or sightseeing for a relaxed evening in front of the fireplace, or by the outdoor firepit. Even a lazy day at home is a treat. Some of our favorite Black Mountain restaurants are 'My Father's Pizza' for the best crust we've ever had, 'Ole Quacamole's' for their authentic Mexican meals, and the 'Veranda Cafe' for their fantastic homemade soups and sandwiches. We often enjoy afternoon coffee at the 'Dripolator', or yummy treats at the 'Black Mountain Bakery'. All of these favorites have cozy outdoor dining as well.

Guestbook comments from the owner

This is our first time to Black Mountain NC and we couldn't be more pleased with what was waiting for us. This mountain hideaway cabin with its majestic view of the High Top mountain peaks came alive each night with unobstructed views of the sparkling night sky and hills dotted with glimpses of distant house lights. The best part was waking up during the night and it was all still there, right outside our windows all around the master bedroom and living room. Unbelievable! We started every morning with a short walk to nearby Cheshire, for coffee and more, which we really recommend doing (we brought our two maltese dogs - this is a very dog friendly area). Spent time in the town of Black Mountain, eating, shopping, meeting the friendly shop owners and locals. Always looked forward to returning to our cozy cabin for an afternoon out on the deck. We really loved our stay here at Black Mountain Hideaway and definitely want to return over and over (perhaps hitting all the seasons). A BIG thanks to the owners for making their home so welcoming and warm. Can't wait to come back!

Absolutely lovely!

  • 5 of 5

Our weekend was exactly what we had hoped it would be. The cabin was cute, quaint, and perfectly located just a short drive from town. We were welcomed with a complimentary bottle of wine to a clean, cozy getaway, perfect for a couple or a family with one or two small children. The town of Black Mountain actually offered more than we expected. There were many shops and a wide variety of restaurants. The owner and the locals were eager to please and very friendly. Our only regret is that our stay was too brief.

Quiet little get away in an ideal location.

The cabin has just the right amount of upgrades without losing the cabin feel. Amazing mountain views as you set by the fire or on the back porch. Perfect place for a family of 4 or less.

Wonderful getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We so enjoyed our time at the Black Mountain Hideaway. It was cozy inside, with a relaxing hot tub under the stars, and nice grilling & eating out on the deck with a mountain view. Our two sons and pup had a great time too. Especially loved the Bear connection - as that's my son's favorite animal! Thanks very much!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for this lovely review, Susan. I'm so happy to hear that you and your family enjoyed your vacation. I hope your son also saw my husbands chainsaw carvings in the old tree down the hill from the cabin. If not, you'll have to come again. Several carved bears in it! Thanks again!

Cozy and good location

  • 4 of 5

Overall the cabin was cozy and close to town. The pictures were a little deceiving so it was smaller than we expected. The beds were not very comfortable but we enjoyed our time. The kitchen was nicely stocked so we didn't need anything but food.
