Welcome to Our Cottage in Charlevoix the Beautiful in Michigan's Northwest region. This could be your home away from home. Cottage is located on the north side of Charlevoix, one block off historic Michigan Avenue with access to the beautiful beaches of Lake Michigan. Five-minute walk to charming downtown Charlevoix where shopping, dining, and entertainment await you. It's just a short stroll to see breathtaking sunsets or an evening concert in the park. A brisk 10-minute walk can take you to a beautiful City library, Depot Beach, and many of Charlevoix's historic, whimsical Earl Young 'mushroom homes'.

Upon your first visit to Charlevoix, you will understand why it is called 'Charlevoix the Beautiful.' For over 100 years, people have traveled to Charlevoix to make this one of the great vacation destinations in Northern Michigan.

The town of Charlevoix is situated around three lakes: Lake Michigan, Lake Charlevoix, and Round Lake, a natural harbor connecting the two lakes to each other.

Charlevoix is known for its beautiful beaches, clear blue waters and stunning sunsets. During the summer months, the average high temperature is 75 degrees with relatively no humidity. This amazing weather lends itself perfectly to the wide variety of outdoor activities that are offered in the area.

The downtown area of Charlevoix is the heart and soul of Charlevoix. It offers art galleries, clothing boutiques, restaurants, and world-famous fudge shops. In the middle of town is the City park and marina. The City park has a band shell that hosts evening concerts all summer long.

Downtown Charlevoix is also the port to the Beaver Islander and Emerald Isle, two boats owned and operated by the Beaver Island Boat Company. Beaver Island is located 32 miles off Charlevoix coast. Surrounded by freshwater and accessible only by boat or plane, Beaver Island is a one-of-a-kind getaway.

Family-friendly property with four bedrooms including master bath and bedroom which to an outdoor patio/deck on the first floor, and three bedrooms and full bath/shower on the second floor, two bedrooms include queen-size pillowtop mattress beds and one bedroom has two twin beds. All bedrooms have many windows allowing the cool breezes in off Lake MIchigan. Home has been completely renovated and newly-furnished and includes a complete kitchen with all the necessary cooking utensils and components to prepare, cook and serve full family meals or wipe up a quick snack. The front porch is a treasure and a get place to relax, have a cup of coffee or a glass of wine and watch the world go by and to enjoy the breezes off Lake Michigan. A warm and inviting feeling greets you in every room.

Centrally located in the heart of Michigan's northwest, Charlevoix is 50 miles from Traverse City, 15 miles from Petoskey, and about 65 miles from Mackinac City and historic Mackinaw Island. Come and enjoy all the beauty that northern Michigan has to offer in all seasons!

About The Owner

I am a Michigan native, and although life circumstances have resulted in me living in Florida for many years; my heart will always be in northern MIchigan. While growing up in Michigan my best memories are from when we went 'Up North!' Up North is not just a location, to me it is a mindset of relaxation and enjoyment in beautiful surroundings! My dream is to become a true 'snow-bird' and retire in the best of both worlds, spring/summer & fall in Michigan, and winters in Florida!

The Owner purchased this house in 2011

Why The Owner chose Charlevoix

The Charlevoix-Petoskey-Traverse City-Glen Arbor/Glen Haven were always our vacation destinations while growing up in the metropolitan Detroit area. Charlevoix has not grown as fast as some of the other northern Michigan cities and it retains its quaint charm surrounded by water, water everywhere. The charm of the town and the friendliness of the people are why I wanted to have a vacation home in Charlevoix the Beautiful!

What makes this house unique

I enjoy walks along the Lake Michigan shoreline, Mt. McSauba Recreation area, or along Park Avenue down to Boulder Park to see the Earl Young 'mushroom' homes, or over to Depot Beach in the early mornings, or into downtown to shop, dine, or enjoy a concert in East Park long the marina!

Clean, comfortable cottage in a great location

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with my family (5 adults and 1 small dog) in May 2017. We loved everything about our stay here. The cottage was extremely clean and decorated nicely. The kitchen was equipped with everything that we needed, which can be a rarity in a rental kitchen. Having a fenced-in back yard and gates on the front porch were perfect for traveling with a dog - we could let him roam around the yard and porch without having to keep him on a leash, which was convenient for us and fun for him. The location was excellent. It's a very short distance from the downtown area, only a block from Lake Michigan, and the neighborhood is filled with beautiful houses. If we are ever in the Charlevoix area again, we wouldn't hesitate to stay here.

Wonderful, spacious, comfortable cottage in prime location

  • 5 of 5

My family and I stayed here for my brother's wedding (6 of us plus my dog) and it was perfect. Walking distance to town and public access beaches and a short drive to Shanahan's Barn for the wedding. Plenty of space for all of us and included everything we needed. Loved the front porch most of all.

Family Vacation - August 12th thru 19th 2017

  • 5 of 5

This is our 2nd time staying at the cottage. Our first time was August of 2015. This has been the perfect place for our family vacations in Northern Michigan. The location makes day trips to Petoskey, Harbor Springs, Mackinac Island or even the Upper Peninsula very easy. The cottage is very clean, comfortable and charming. The perfect setup for 8 adults and 2 large dogs. The kitchen is a nice size and is very well equipped. All linens are supplied and the beds are all very comfortable. We spent mornings on the very spacious front porch enjoying coffee and conversation before walking to the Lake Michigan Beach just one block away. The spacious backyard offers a beautiful deck with a gas grill and privacy fence. Our 2 dogs ( a Golden Retriever and German Wirehaired Pointer) love the backyard, especially going in and out through the "doggie door" on the side porch. The cottage is just north of the bridge (a short walk to downtown). Faith, the owner is a joy to work with. We are grateful to her for welcoming us and our 2 dogs to her beautiful cottage. Charlevoix is a very special place and so is this cottage. We plan to return many times in the years to come.

We enjoyed our stay

  • 4 of 5

We stayed as a family of 4 for 1 week. We quite enjoyed our stay. Its always hard to find someplace that allows the 5th member of our family, our dog!

PROS: The location is excellent. On a quiet street yet a short walk from downtown and beaches. The owner was communicative. The front porch was wonderful to relax on. The entire house was quite functional and had nearly everything you might need. Plenty of hot water and the water pressure was fine. With the windows open there was almost always a nice breeze and no need for A/C. The mattresses all seemed relatively new and were comfortable. The washer and dryer worked well. The security deposit was promptly returned. The pictures online were accurate.

CONS: The house was not nearly as clean as I would have liked when we arrived. I spent about 30 min cleaning the floors (baseboards) and vacuuming the carpet and furniture as they had sand on them. The house is quite old (with charm!) but its in relatively good shape. We could not use the fenced in back yard due to a skunk issue. The bikes had several issues including poor brakes and flat tires. The tire pump was broken (though the owner did suggest I could buy a new one and she would reimburse me). We had to clean many of the items we used, such as the blender, pans, and wine glasses as they were not clean.

We would certainly stay again, and I feel that is the best review one can provide.

Owner's Response: I would have gladly had the housekeeper return to address the minor issues but the renters did not agree to that. The house is over 117 years old as most in the neighborhood and as with most older homes there are a few quirks - the house is not advertised as a new home. A skunk was seen once this summer most likely passing through the yard; wildlife refuge company came out but renters would not allow a trap to be set in the off chance that a skunk was present and no other renters have seen any evidence of a skunk. Three of the bikes are a year old, the other three are older & all have been used extensively by other guests & the bicycle pumps worked in June when owner was present. It's disappointing that my home did not meet this renter's expectations, but offers were made to address any issues and those were not accepted.
