About Ross Furman

Ross lived in Eastport as a child and this is where he wanted to come back to own a piece of his childhood, he purchased the 1790 Jacob Lincoln Farm in 1987. Ross' passion for Rossport's natural beauty and the innate character and culture of the surrounding region.

Ross Furman purchased this farmhouse in 1987

Why Ross Furman chose Down East

There are eighty plus private acres with a mile and a half of ocean frontage that hug the shoreline and provide an intimate relation with wildlife and fauna that are our backdrop for daily living. Hens provide eggs, local fishermen provide lobster and seafood, and our own organic garden supplies herbs, flowers, and wouldn't want to be anywhere else. We have had many guests return, year after year, and always look forward to the next visit. We feel that Eastport and Way Downeast are a truly authentic Maine existence and love it so much that we wanted to introduce this region to others seeking a less hectic, more genuine experience, rich with history, culture, and character. It's home!

A beautiful and peaceful setting for your Eastport adventures.

  • 5 of 5

Ross of Rossport by the Sea was an amazing host. We loved this property and would return again. So peaceful and quiet yet close to town. We ended up staying in the Tidewater cottage, because of a booking problem, but we won in the end. We were right on the water, enjoyed the Rossport coffee, and even saw his cows combing the beach! The staff was excellent. The shops in Eastport were lovely with many locally made goods. If you go to Lubec, we recommend Frank's restaurant, the best seafood chowder we have ever had. Ross even signed a Pirate Festival poster for our little boy, which features a painting of Ross the pirate!!

We'll be back!

I fully recommend Rossport Farms. It's absolutely beautiful. Kids can run and play around outside on the gorgeous grounds, pick a fresh egg from the henhouse for breakfast, explore the rocky shores, play hide and seek in the woods, or if it's cloudy, escape to the red barn to play pac-man and billiards. Eastport is small and only a few minutes away with a great lobster shack, nice restaurant, a grocery store, a library that serves espresso(!), a small food coop, and a candy shop, among other antique and nifty stores.

Canada is also right there, We drove over to visit FDR's retreat on Campobello Island. If you are a history buff this should not be missed.

The 1790 farmhouse that we rented was rustic but fine. I imagine the next time we go back we may try the cottages. The cabins seemed really cool, too.

Our host, Ross, was 110% great. He had firewood delivered even when he was not around so that we could have a fire for s'mores, gave us a great tour of the grounds, and even let my son stock a pond with turtles.

A hidden gem Downeast!

  • 5 of 5

Our multi-family group was looking for a summer vacation spot that met a long list of needs. After much research, we chose Rossport Farms in Eastport, ME. I cannot overstate that Rossport By The Sea exceeded our expectations in every possible manner. From the charming 1790 Jacob Lincoln farmhouse, the Belted Galloways grazing in the field, deer sightings on walks at nightfall, to wandering the beautiful grounds and beachcombing the shore, and the ultimate host himself, Ross Furman, Rossport By The Sea is an absolute slice of heaven! As active vacationers, we had many things planned in the Eastport area, and came with the intention of using Rossport as merely a place to hang our hats at night, but as a pleasant surprise for us, Rossport By The Sea turned out to be the vacation itself!

Owner's Response: It is always so rewarding to read the positive responses we get from our guests! With over sixty acres to maintain, and a mile of shoreline to preserve, we feel that we are privileged to be stewards of this spectacular down east sanctuary. Every year we are able to move closer to our goal of self - sustainability, while offering clean, comfortable, and unique accommodations that encourage an intimate, natural setting. Our Facebook page will keep you posted as to what new additions and changes are being made - we hope to see you again 'where the sun first lights the sky, and where the stars shine brightest!' Thanks Samantha, and we wish you much success with your new career! Sincerely, Deborah and Ross

spectacular farmhouse getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at Rossport Farms was perfect! The host and hostess opened up their 18th century farmhouse to our family of six and we were awed by the eclectic, historic decor as well as by the fresh flowers in each room. The grounds were breathtaking and our kids didn't want to leave the property during our four day stay. (They loved feeding the alpacas and exploring the beach during the extreme high and low tides!) Their hospitality in sharing their unique retreat made us want to return. The nearby historic town of Eastport had a nice selection of restaurants and many interesting art galleries. We took the ferry over to Lubec, but in hindsight wished we had just stayed in downtown Eastport longer. The locals were extremely friendly and everyone seemed to know each other. We wish we could return for the Pirate Festival in September. (Check out the local Chamber of Commerce website for more info. about this family-fun annual event.) It is the ideal location for families, couples' getaways...anyone looking for a peaceful respite in an idyllic location.
