Why Pamela Dunn chose Saint Helena
Limited availability because of all the repeat guests. The house has tall ceilings which give the house of open, spacious and sunny atmosphere. Bedrooms on 2 levels affords nice privacy for couples sharing the house. House is located at the end of a dead end street so quiet (and safe for little ones). Location seems to be the most coveted aspect of this charming house - leave the car at home and walk to everything. Downtown Saint Helena - 2 blocks, acres of vineyards - 2 blocks. I bought this property because it was stumbling distance from Tra Vigne - my favorite restaurant ;)

Napa Valley in the Winter
Location of the house is great. The kitchen is well stocked. Close to everything in St Helena. The house itself needs some updating. The sisal carpet going down the stairs is ripped and torn. The sisal carpet/flooring in the lower level is ripped and in some areas completely gone. The owner has placed a mat over the bare floor area going into the master bedroom. We got an email on our arrival day saying the front porch on the top level was leaking into the lower level den. Owner ask us to put out some buckets to catch the dripping water. She stated that the repair would take 6 to 7 days and didn't want to disturb us during our stay. Unfortunately we were there during a rainy week and the bucket stayed out all week catching the water. You could tell it has been leaking for quite some time from the water stains on the back of the area rug. The electricity needs to be updated too. The lower level breaker tripped a few times while we were there. Mainly tripped when we used the hairdryer. Washer and dryer worked great. The garage is for storage not for vehicle parking which was fine. As I stated the house just needs a little updating. Only tv is on the lower level. The bed in the master bedroom was comfortable. The living room furniture in the upper level is worn out. We were gone most of the time so it wasn't a huge problem but it would have been nice to have somewhere comfortable to sit while having a glass of wine before dinner or coffee in the morning. We were a little disappointed in the house but we were only there a week. It didn't stop us for having an awesome winter vacation in Napa Valley. No crowds and lots of great wine. It's a wonderful time to visit.
Perfect Spot surrounded by the gorgeous wine growing valley
We travel to Napa Valley every year and stay in the area of St Helena/Calistoga and during our trips we've discovered some fabulous favorite spots, and this house is in walking distance to many of those faves! Lovely, charming interior, nice outdoor garden spot for sitting as well as a lovely front porch to sip and enjoy coffee/wine. Great location and comfortable "home base" while visiting the area. Owner is extremely responsive, house was clean and well stocked with dishes, cookware, linens, etc. Perfect spot, highly recommended..
The ideal wine couontry vacation spot!!!
We go to Napa Valley every year but usually stay at a hotel in Napa. We love Saint Helena and decided to try out renting a house. What a wonderful experience this was. The owner was incredible prompt and helpful in answering any of my questions. The house was wonderful, spacious and sunny with wine country charm and the location couldn't be better. Right behind our favorite restaurant Tra Vigne and walking distance to everything in town. Can't wait to return!!! (FYI - Farmstead, also walking distance has a great outdoor happy hour.
Tough start turned great stay
We showed up to find the house not clean. Evidently the maid service left town and forgot to clean before doing so. What could have made for a miserable stay, turned out to be just fine. The owner was extremely apologetic and got a cleaning crew there asap. We simply headed out for some tasting and came back to a clean home.
Our stay was very nice. The home is very functional and open. The convenience is awesome. We were able to walk to coffee spots, shopping and dinner. The later being key so nobody had to be a DD, and we were able to enjoy the wine we bought each day.
Make a note that the upstairs bathroom has a tub and a handle shower so you either sit on your butt to shower or stand and deftly maneuver to shower. Not tough but good to know.
The back patio was nice and the grill was in good shape.
We would stay here again
A nice old Victorian which has clearly been upgraded. Nice quiet street - not a through street which keeps it pretty quiet. We were greeted by a nice bouquet of flowers and bottle of Napa Valley wine on our arrival. There are stairs to go up and down both inside and out, so if you have any disabilities be aware. The location is great. We never used our car to go out to eat in St. Helena. Walked everywhere. And there are lots of very fine restaurants in town.
The upstairs is a nice sitting area with fireplace, and the kitchen off to the side. Also, one bedroom with a queen is upstairs along with a bathroom. The kitchen is well stocked and the ice machine works! (some places it doesn't) Also, the wireless system works flawlessly and the user ID and password are displayed for you to use.
The bottom floor is a very nice master suite. One room has a nice sofa, coffee table and TV. As you go further, there is a bathroom with tub and shower and the bedroom. One thing that needs attention is the rope rug. About 2-3 inches of the subflooring is exposed between the rug and tiles. Should be covered up. The bedroom holds a queen bed that is very comfortable. French doors exit to a patio and picnic table.
I should mention that we survived the big earthquake with no issues so the house has to be built pretty well! This is a comfortable house, centrally located to enjoy the wine country and good food. We stayed for almost 3 weeks and enjoyed it immensely.
Charming, charming charming
We took my Dad for Father's day - we couldn't have been more happy with our choice. The house was equipped with all we needed for bbqing and having wonderful family dinners together outside. Left the car in the driveway and walked everywhere such a weclome treat from our normal work commute. We did spa at the Napa Valley Health Spa - great treatments and great pool - wish we could have stayed longer. Mom wants to come back for Mother's Day! Thank you.
Fabulous shopping, restaurants, wineries and tasting rooms within walking distance. Walk through acres of vineyards 2 blocks away. Sit up on the sunny front porch with morning coffee and watch the world go by. Hot air ballooning, great old style local movie theater. Tennis courts 5 minutes away. Rent bicycles from the local bike shop (5 minute walk) and ride thru along the vineyards path or great mountain biking 15 minutes away. Spa! Spa! Spa! Health Spa Napa Valley great fitness center, spa treatments and a fabulous pool to lounge by - 3 minutes walk. Don't forget to visit the Napa Valley Olive Oil Company - 1 block away for the best olive oil ever and lots of other Italian goodies. 5 minute walk to all Saint Helena restaurants, and downtown Saint Helena shopping and tasting rooms. 25 wineries within 10 minutes - how do you beat that! We recommend sitting a on the deck bar at Auberge de Soleil for a truly stunning view of the valley. Indulge in a cooking class at the Culinary Institute of American - held 2 times daily.
