We loved this place! Bill, Chase, and everyone else were so nice and really great about giving us ideas about where to go, and what to do. The house is beautiful, the view amazing. We would definitely stay again.
If you are looking for something different... Experience life not at the beach :-)
We just spent 12 days at the Heavenly Hawaiian Coffee Farm guest house. This was our second stay with Dave and Trudy and we can't say enough about the location and the serene life at 1600' on the Big Island.
If you are looking for a Hawaiian Beach vacation, this is probably not something you would be interested in. Heavenly Hawaiian is a small, working coffee farm with a bustling tour and mail-order business operating out of the adjacent home on the property. Most days there are a number of tours going on and and overall hustle and bustle of an operating business 30 feet from your door. But... the house has sufficient privacy and is idyllic if you are content with awesome views, wildlife (turkeys, pigs, birds (lots of birds), geckos, etc.. and fruit trees ready for the picking.
We found our daily routine to be close to home in the mornings (as they tend to be sunny), and then start out on a daily adventure when the afternoon cloud cover rolls in. There are beach chairs, coolers and snorkeling equipment available for use and all the things you need to cook meals in the kitchen as well as a grill (and remote controlled tiki-torches!). Downtown Kailua-Kona is only 15 minutes away and there are other shopping and eating options in Honuloa, Keahou and Captain Cook only a few minutes away.
The only negative (and a small one)... We first stayed there 4 years ago and some of the interior items in the house are in need of a refresh. All were things that we were assured are about to happen.
We plan on returning again and look forward to reading and relaxing by the pool and the lanai. The view NEVER gets old. Thanks Dave and Trudy for sharing your special place with us!
Heavenly Stay in every sense of the word
There is nothing more I could have asked for. In the past 15 years I stayed at dozens of luxury homes around the world, from Australia to Costa Rica, from Italy to Florida, Thailand to Japan and the list goes on. When we rent vacation homes - we look to experience something that would resemble actually living in that city, that neighbourhood, sensing what locals do, taste, how they treat one another, what they see around them. This Coffee Farm home is the epitome of Kona Hawaii. It's the Shangri-La of oasis among 40 acres of coffee, overlooking the most amazing ocean views from morning to night, and gorgeous sunsets. There's nothing missing in this house. And if you come there and look for things to pick on - then maybe you do not belong there at all - maybe you need to find a hotel room where things are standard and boring, predictable and mondaine.
Here you are surrounded by hundreds of fruits trees, free to enjoy, sounds of nature, vistas that will make you jaws drop from the minute you get there, the flowers, the people, the starry nights to enjoy from the comfort of your own hot tub, counting stars falling from the sky (no light pollution in Hawaii ).
I didn't mention the people yet - Chase, Bill, RunningBear, Claudia, Tine, Victor, Jimmy, Juam, who make this place what it is. Who are so helpful, so friendly and will make your stay so cozy and will make you feel at home from the minute you get there.
I am definitely going back to this place one of these days. It feels like Heaven, and it feels like home. You are welcome to discover it for yourself.
A few tips ( wasn't going to leave you without them).
1) For swimming and world class snorkelling - Go to 2 Step Beach. If lucky you will swim with wild Dolphins there.
2) Walk around the farm and go down the road to the main highway to enjoy not just flowers but pick up fresh fruit from tress that grow right by the road. (passion fruit, avocados, papayas, and more )
3) Get a macademia nut cracker. Tons of trees around
4) The pool is solar power - means - when it's very warm outside and you don't mind the slightly cooler water, then you are good. Otherwise, enjoy the hot tub and swim at nearby beaches.
5) There's a juicer at the house so pick up some citruses and enjoy a fresh cup of OJ every morning
6) it can get chilly at night, depending on season most likely ( My stay was in December ). Get extra blankets.
7) Washing machine does work - ask for instructions.
MAHALO for EVERYTHING
The views from the house are amazing. Had the best time sitting in the hot tub watching the sunset turn into a nighttime star gazing show.
The elevation is high enough so that it’s a little cooler - and no lights at night let you see the galaxy.
Bill is fantastic host - and having a coffee roaster 5 steps from the front door is a nice benefit too!
Will definitely stay there again on the next trip.
Fabulous hosts in a glorious retreat
The photos on the website are great--the actual house is even better. The view, the pool, the hot tub and all make it a wonderful retreat at the end of a busy day exploring. The hosts were very welcoming and had great recommendations of things to do.
beautiful and comfortable cottage, great hosts. the cottage was fully stocked and plenty of amenities. only downside is it's a bit remote so you can't walk to town or local shops.
