This was my second visit to this idyllic spot with a glorious view. The comfy, well kept cottage is located in a lovely private spot at the end of a dirt road with a view over to the bustling town of Rockland. It has everything one needs to enjoy a seaside vacation. It has become my happy place!
You can feel perfectly content watching lobster boats and loons all day!
Loved everything about this house... the location, the rooms and especially the screened-in porch. I have been renting in Owl's Head for many years and this was delightful!
Dynamite, an apt name for this little gem
We spent a lovely week at Dynamite Beach Cottage this summer. The location is ideal, so near to Rockland, Rockport, Camden, and many mid-coast amenities. The cottage is simple and well kept with everything one needs to relax and enjoy a holiday. The setting is beautiful - very peaceful and quiet. We enjoyed sitting on the porch and watching the view at all times of day. The only small suggestion I would make is to get a better mattress for the single bed. I think I found my happy place and plan to rent it again next summer. The owner, Christine, was very helpful and available.
Thank you Laura for your positive review and for letting me know about the single bed mattress. A new mattress has been purchased and will be in place for the beginning of the 2017 season. Best wishes, Christine
A little quirky cottage, away from it all, with a million dollar view.
The cottage is rustic, and quirky, with all the basics of home. No A/c, but it was the last week of August and we did not miss it. Located at the end of a gravel dirt road, and right on Rockland Harbor, if you are looking for peace and quiet, and a million dollar view, this is the place! The owner, Christine, was as helpful as could be, and we really just loved the entire experience. Our first visit to Maine, we drove up from our home in the Shenandoah Valley. Tho the cottage is "away from it all" it was only a few miles from the town of Rockland, where we could pick up everything and anything we needed. I think we spent 90 % of our time on the beautiful screened in porch overlooking the harbor. If you must go out and about there are many interesting places close by, including The Transportation Museum, the Marshall Point lighthouse, the Farnsworth Museum (Wyeth) and many, many interesting shops. Don't miss the 7 Napkin Burger at the Owls Head general store, and breakfast or lunch at Keags store just down the road on 73. We HIGHLY recommend this property. We will probably go back again, perhaps in the Fall next time, just to experience a different season in Maine.
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage very much. Christine, the owner, was very helpful. The cottage sits directly on the water. Our favorite thing was to sit on the lovely screened deck and watch the lobster boats, the many sailboats and the Rockland Light. We saw eagles and loons. It was so very peaceful. The sunsets were spectacular. The cottage is very close to Rockland all that town has to offer.
Classic summer cottage in a great location
We come up every summer to escape the southern summer. The cottage is small but perfect for two charming and the view is incomparable. We cycle we kayak we hike and spend hours on the breezy porch watching the endless show in Rockland harbor. The Osprey, Eagles Seals and Loons never disappoint.
Dynamite Beach Cottage is located on the water with sweeping views of Rockland Harbor, breakwater, lighthouse and the Camden Hills. You will be minutes away from Downtown Rockland where many shops, restaurants, museums and art galleries are located. Rockand's Harbor Park is also located nearby which is host to both the Lobster and Blues festivals. Camden is located ten miles to the north and Port Clyde is located 20 miles to the South. It is possible to visit 5 lighthouses in one day, all with scenic views. Owls Head Lighthouse is located minutes down the road. Rockland Lighthouse is viewable from the cottage and a ten minute drive. Port Clyde is host to Marshall Point lighthouse. Curtis Island lighthouse is located in Camden and Pemaquid Lighthouse is located about 45 minutes away in Bristol.
Two miles down Route 73 Owl's Head Transportation Museum hosts events every weekend throughout the summer. Permanent displays may be viewed daily.
Birch Point State Park is located 5 minutes away. It has a sandy beach and large rocks for sun bathing. Camden Hills State Park contains Mount Battie which is good for hiking or just driving the car up to see the views of Camden, Rockland, Lincolnville, and the Islands. Chickawaukie and Megunticook lakes have public swimming areas and are located in Rockland and Camden respectively. Acadia National Park, located in Bar Harbor, is a day trip away to the North and Reid State Park, in Bath, is a day trip away to the South.
In Owls Head Dynamite Beach is very private with no public access to the shore. It is excellent for children who like to search for crabs and snails under rocks and collect sea glass and sea shells.
