very pretty cabin in a great location

  • 3 of 5

The cabin/home itself is beautiful. The neighborhood is lovely and convenient. The driveway is steep...thank goodness for backup cameras!

The furniture is cozy, tasteful and comfortable. The hot tub is spacious and delightful to relax in. The back patio is very nice. Everything (inside and out)was clean when we arrived.

Areas for improvement: No where to put our own clothing, not enough coat hangers, drawers filled with owners items. It would be nice to have some areas open for renters use. There was no kettle available for the tea drinkers. Kitchen cabinets have a lot of useless items stuffed into them. I think it could be so much better if "stuff" was minimized.

Regardless, we enjoyed our stay in this lovely home. Location is extremely convenient.

Disappointed in house cleaners

  • 3 of 5

Right away we noticed the house cleaners had hung up a worn out bath towel that had large bleach stains on the front. It should have been thrown away. The other bath towel hung up also had stains on the front. How did the cleaners think this was acceptable? There were plenty of towels in the closet for them to choose from. Additionally, the bottom sheet put on the twin bed was two sizes too small for the depth of the mattress. The sheet kept popping off all night long and the guest had to sleep on a wrinkled mess of a sheet. Not a good way to sleep comfortably. The upstairs bed didn't have any mattress pad on it at all. The beds were comfortable though. The dryer had a full load of damp towels that I had to dry, fold and put away. I paid a cleaning fee and shouldn't have had to put away other guests' laundry. The house cleaners need some retraining. The closets are very full and there isn't much room to hang up clothes. I had to take the vacuum out of one closet in order to hang up our clothes. Lastly, we didn't appreciate the owner stating in her rules to only take one 5 minute shower per day. We have rented in Tahoe for 25 years and no owner has ever told us how long and when to shower. It seems to us that the owner just doesn't want to pay the water bill so maybe she shouldn't rent it out. A friendly reminder about water conservation would have sufficed. Would not rent this cabin again.

Owner's Response: Karen: Thank you for the specific issues you had with the house. As I am a remote owner I do not always see the results of the house cleaning with every rental. I periodically purchase new towels so they are fresh for renters; and a majority of my linens and towels are newer. However, it cannot always be prevented if there are bleach stains even on the newer items. I will address this with the cleaner for future guests and make sure the staff does not use any of linens/towels that have major stains. Also, as California in general has drought issues I include water conservation guidelines as part of my house rules. When multiple parties use the house I do expect that house rules are followed and used with good judgement, so that all my future guests have a good experience.

Great house

  • 5 of 5

Had a lovely ski weekend at this Truckee house. Everything was as described, Jill was a good communicator, and the house is great. Loved the hot tub, sizeable kitchen and fireplace. Only foible is that the bedrooms can get really warm at night; it’s challenging to get a temp setting so that all 3 are comfortable. But a small nit from a great weekend. Would gladly rent this again!

Owner's Response: Thanks, Rory, for your stay! Glad you enjoyed your weekend. Appreciate your feedback on the heating. It's one of those things that came with the house years ago when I bought it. I always recommend that renters keep the temperature down in the evenings and adjust each room's individual vents. Hope you can come again. Glad it didn't prevent you from enjoying your time. Jill

Great cabin super convenient for Northstar!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time at the cabin and had everything we needed! Open kitchen/living room makes it easy to cook and spend time with your group. The hot tub is lovely out in the snow. Would recommend!

the perfect family house

  • 5 of 5

We recently returned from our second winter stay at Jill's house, and all voted that we want to keep renting. We are 3 generations, ranging in age from 4 to 79, and we all love the location, the house, the surroundings, and the hot tub. Our dogs love it too. Thank you, Jill!
