This family friendly home features 3 fireplaces, with plenty of firewood stacked on the property, ready for your use. The Master Bedroom is on the 2nd floor and has its own pot belly fireplace insert. It has a full shower and walk-in closet. The second and third bedrooms are on the ground floor. One has a queen bed and ocean view, the other has 2 twin beds. A twin roll away is also available. The second bathroom and additional half bathroom are on the ground floor. The new full size washing machine and dryer are in a closet in the downstairs area.
The fully equipped kitchen is upstairs, and features a Jenn-air convection gas range with infra-red heat lamps. Additional kitchen utensils include Keurig pod coffee maker, and we also have a drip coffee machine, waffle maker, blender, standing mixer - everything you need whether you are making a gourmet meal or a picnic lunch.
Time will appear to stand still while you sit on the ocean facing balcony where you can listen to the surf, smell the ocean, and watch the waves. The dining and living areas are also upstairs and both have ocean views; and the cream leather couch and loveseat are perfect places to relax, put your feet up and enjoy nature at its best.
We also provide a 40' flat screen TV with Netflix, Blue Ray DVD and VHS, with many family movies or CD's for your listening pleasure.
If you would prefer to read a book or do a puzzle, we have a variety of genres from which to choose, together with coloring books and board games. Sitting on the rug doing a puzzle in front of the fireplace has got to be one of our favorite things to do.
The front garden is a special feature of the property, as lavender bushes spill onto the brick walkway, and humming birds and deer are regular visitors.
Just like a Summer's Eve, we had fabulous weather; gorgeous views and able to be out on the deck without even a sweatshirt until 11pm!!!! Fun place to stay - we'll be back for sure
Three generations of our family got to enjoy this wonderful house. The view is excellent, everyone loved the garden in front and everyone was complimentary of the hosts for having plenty of towels, family games and other necessary supplies. The telescope was great for both wave viewing by day and fortunately for us star gazing at night. Slept soundly for a brief but very peaceful two nights. Relatively short drive up the coast to Mendocino and Fort Bragg. Highly recommended for families and we'd love to stay again in the future.
The house was great. Kim made everything easy and was a delight to work with.
If you are looking for a wonderful place for a family vacation, this is it. The house is clean and well-maintained and has views out over the Pacific and coastal headlands. It is also wonderfully located approximately 20 miles from Mendocino if you want that sort of tourist experience, is equally close to great redwood groves in Navarro Canyon, and is within easy distance of the wine country in Anderson Valley.
We were especially lucky the nights we were there to have a waxing moon illuminating waves beating against the shore below us from where we sat on the veranda sipping some of that wonderful pinot from the Anderson Valley. Truly charmed evenings in a charming house.
I would recommend this place to anyone!
If you're looking for a family friendly beach stay on the Pacific coast, this is the spot for you. From the living room and dining room, you'll have gorgeous views of the sparkling ocean, right across the street from this charming cottage. The house was clean and comfy, and the kitchen was well appointed.
The garden in front of the house is a sanctuary for hummingbirds and butterflies. The Greenwood State Beach is located just across the beach from the house. This particular beach was refreshingly free of noisy crowds. One beautiful morning during our stay, we even had the beach to ourselves for quite a while.
My family and I could walk to the Elk General Store, which is on the same side of the road as the cottage. At the store, you can procure unique souvenirs, delicious sandwiches, salads, beverages, snacks, and organic coffee.
This property is a great value--one of Northern California's hidden gems.
There is construction taking place on the property, with an extension ladder, new and old lumber, shingles, pavers, etc. We had been told the windows might be worked on but did not realize that we would be walking through construction materials. The path to the beach is a steep, steep 10-15 minute walk on an old fire road which is not handicapped accessible. The locals said to be sure we avoided poison oak by staying in the center of the path. The beach itself is lovely.
The kitchen is quite well furnished and very clean. The bedrooms have carpet. There is a vent in the floor of the master bedroom which opens directly to the floor beneath. The wall of the master bedroom does not extend to the sides of the fireplace; it is open to the very bright living room/dining room/kitchen area. There are no windows which can be opened upstairs, where the LR/DR/K/MB complex is; there is a set of French doors but no screen. We had a large fly in the house. The upstairs windows that face the ocean are either "smoked" or just plain dirty. (We tried to clean them but they don't swing in for cleaning like many windows do.) The furniture is serviceable and undamaged. There are foam egg crates on the mattresses. The downstairs bedroom with queen bed is quite narrow, with fewer than 2 feet on either side of the bed.
There was miscommunication regarding the cleaning schedule prior to our arrival. After the house was cleaned, it was spotless with the exception of the windows and bathroom rugs (wet footprints) which we washed ourselves.
The area is safe and the locals are quite friendly. The puzzles we assembled had all their pieces. We feel this house has awesome potential-- it seems to be in the midst of a renovation and we'd consider staying again after the renovation is complete.
I cannot say enough good things about this well-equipped house and the friendly and attentive home owner. We were a party of 4 adults and 3 children and this house suited our every need and desire. I would stay here over and over again and highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a quite getaway along the ocean. The beautifully maintained grounds offered plenty of flowers and it was enjoyable to sit on their new patio looking at the ocean. The trail to the beach is a bit long, but the reward is worth the hike. All in all, it was a perfect weekend getaway for my family.
Whether you are looking for rest, relaxation or romance, this property is ideal. The ocean views are breathtaking, and you can walk across the street to Greenwood State Beach or behind the house to the redwood trees for a short stroll to the river.
There are many local restaurants within walking distance, or we are only 17 miles South of downtown Mendocino where unique boutiques, antiques, and fine dining await.
The Point Arena Lighthouse is 20 miles to the South, and at 115 ft, is the tallest Pacific Coast Lighthouse which you can still climb to the top. It is also the closest point of land to Hawaii in the Continental US. Full Moon Nighttime Tours are scheduled on full moon nights through December.
If you are in the mood for wine tasting, the picturesque Mendocino Wine Country is close by, where you can taste fine wines and champagnes, and then bring a bottle home to sip while watching the spectacular sunset.
