Why Jackie Williams chose Gatlinburg

Newly renovated and designed in 2015. Whimsical 1960s / 1970s decor gives the feeling of being in your groovy grandpa's mountain get away. A time capsule retreat. Step back in time without leaving behind any contemporary comforts. Modern luxuries include free Wi-Fi, complimentary streaming Netflix, DVD, Atari, flat screen TVs and cable and shuffleboard table. So close to Ober Gatlinburg, you can walk there!

What makes this condo unique

Spectacular views, year round. Home is nestled on a hill, on top of a mountain. Trees surround the property giving a feeling of seclusion. A quick drive down the mountain leads to Gatlinburg's bustling down town.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We loved this chalet, the owners went to great detail with all the decor to make it almost seem like you had gone back in time to the 1960's or 1970's. It also included modern luxuries such as wifi and flat screen televisions throughout the house which was great. This chalet is definitely very unique and one of a kind which I loved. I would feel lucky to be able to stay in this chalet again sometime in the future.

Transported back in time!

  • 4 of 5

Stayed 4 nights in the Shaggin' Chalet and it truly was like being transported back to the 70's! Our kids, who are Brady Bunch fans, thought the decor was very interesting & funny. As someone who was a teen in the 70's I can vouch that the decor is authentic in almost every detail (except flat screen TV's) - it even smelled like I remember our house smelling! The cabin was fairly clean, but because everything is actually from the 70's (i.e not replicas) it could come across to some as a little worn - several door were creaky (and thin just like the '70s) & the floor creaks in a few spots (we had a sleeping baby so we notice things like this :)) and the "shaggy" carpet had a few minor stains (maybe it was original too?) Nothing major, but don't expect 5 star amenities & quality... we are very picky and thought it was a nice enough place to stay. The view is awesome and this is as close as you can get to the National Park (only 5 min. drive bypassing all the traffic). It's also off the same road (Ski Mountain) as the Ober Gatlinburg ski resort which had some rides open during the summer. The only issue I had was my full-size, rear-drive Chevy van didn't like a sharp & steep section of Ski Mountain road as my rear tires slipped a couple of times - I wouldn't have liked to drive the roads in this neighborhood in severe rain or with any snow on it! There also was a nice community pool with a slide that we were able to use. I would recommend the Shaggin Chalet to any one looking for a unique stay in a great location.

My husband and I had so much fun staying at the Retro Swiss "shaggin chalet". Great get away for a couple. I could also see a group of friends entertaining here and having a blast. If you are looking for something different from the standard decor, this is your place. Fantastic view of Mt Leconte, secluded from the street, and very comfortable. The owners have done a fantastic job keeping it "retro" in every detail yet with modern wi-fi, cable and flat screens. The hot tub was a great retreat and the outdoor lighting was excellent for evenings on the patio. Private with a beautiful view, we pulled the curtains open only to never close them again. Convenient location close to downtown Gatlingburg and on the edge of the National Park (which was closed due to government shutdown). We really enjoyed spending time here. Great communication with the owner as well as with Chalet Village Properties, pictures are accurate. Easy check in/out. We can't wait to return. Staying here was truly an adventure.
