Large enough for six adults, plus a couple of keiki (children), this home was designed by the late Vladimir Ossipoff, award-winning Hawaii architect. Mr. Ossipoff's trademark includes open-plans blessed by the trade winds. Views of the dramatic Koolau mountains surround this lovely family home.

Peaceful and safe for families, this house is in a quiet residential upscale neighborhood ideal for a getaway, a place to come together again with family and friends, or a celebration of the generations.

Kick back, lie on a comfortable chaise lounge, choose your lanai (there are two), inside or out, the tropical foliage and flowers surround you.

This home is just a seven-minute drive to world-renowned Lanikai and Kailua Beaches and friendly Kailua Town where you can rent a kayak, learn to windsurf or dine on local delights.

Features include beamed ceilings, teak and tropical wood furniture, a tile-floored dining/family room, ceiling fans throughout, a fully-equipped kitchen, modern-style bathrooms.

Living Space: A full living room with TV/DVD player, extra sitting area, large dining/family room with large dining table that extends for groups and a full kitchen.

Bed Set-up: 2 queens, 1 full, 1 double futon

Bedrooms: The master bedroom has a private bath with windows opening to an enclosed garden, a queen-size four-poster bed, mirrored closet doors and air conditioning. Bedroom 2 has a full bed and a big closet. Bedroom 3 is the Gecko room. It has a queen bed, has A/C and looks out on the garden.

Exterior: A covered lanai with table and chairs, lounges, and another covered lanai with chairs and barbeque are available. Tropical plants surround the home. The yard is completely fenced in.

If you want a quiet spot away from the bustle of Honolulu and within a 15 minute drive to the beach, this house is for you. Located in Kailua you are near some of the most beautiful beaches on Oahu, according to our daughter who has lived in Hawaii for six years. Situated on a hill in a quiet neighborhood, it is a short walk to the grocery store and about a 35 min. scenic drive over the mountains to Honolulu and points of interest. Carol's home is beautiful and spacious with lots of room for families to spread out and play or relax. Our grandson especially enjoyed watching the geckoes romp in the backyard. The photos are just like what greets you when you arrive. Even though the owners live on the property and share the garage, you have complete privacy. Carol was very helpful. The microwave died the day before we arrived and she delivered a new one our first day there. Thank you Carol for providing a quiet and restful place for our vacation on Oahu.

We recently returned from a wonderful stay at Mala Pua Hale in Kailua, HI. The property is exactly as represented in the photos and description and we would stay there again.

The property manager was very helpful and the owners promptly refunded our deposit after our stay.

We would recommend this property.

Real Hawaiian living

Aloha. If you'd like to live like a real Hawaiian, this is the a quiet neighborhood without tourist and a beautiful beach without the crowds. A real home with all the comforts of, lots of beach and bath towels, convenience of a very nice washer and dryer, and parking in the garage or on the driveway. Nicely located. Close to beautiful sandy beaches, nice road access (without the noise), and friendly neighborhood. We loved the vintage Hawaiian lamps which some may say are dated, but I say artsy! Large and comfortable home. This community and its beaches are laid back away from the hustle and bustle of Waikiki. The two boys went to North Shore three times to do serious surfing from here. It took about 55 minute on the coast road for a beautiful scenic drive. We also went to see relatives staying in Waikiki using the beautiful Pali road. Kailua is a small and friendly town that we prefer over hectic Waikiki. The owner Carol is very friendly and maintains the property nicely. It's very clean. A fellow power washed the outside and the monthly exterminator service showed - Carol handled it all. If you're looking for a nice place for a family with lots of peace and quiet, great light, convenience, and living like a local, this is the ideal home. A short drive to the beach or you can walk. Try Island Grill for excellent food. BTW, if you'd like to cook, the house was already equipped with spices, sugar, etc. while we were there. Mahalo Carol!

Promo photos misrepresent condition of the rental

Pleasant neighborhood, and house is spacious and relatively comfortable, but there were many detractions. Patio, BBQ grill, and adjacent yard were not well kept up. No TV in second bedroom. CDs and DVDs were provided, but nothing set up to play them! Not even a clock radio anywhere. Toilets slow to function, and no plunger provided. Shower curtain dirty. Giant cockroaches in bathrooms. Wifi had to be reset by owner. Kitchen appliances and cooking utensils need updating. In its present condition, and given the misrepresentation of the premises in the photos posted to advertise the rental, we cannot recommend the house to others who might be visiting Hawaii for the first time.

Owner's Response: We are so sorry that these guests were not happy staying at our home. We do our very best to make sure everyone is comfortable and happy. Our home may not be brand new, but it is clean and quiet. We would, however, like to address some erroneous comments. There are two DVD players in the house -- one in the living room right next to the TV and one in the sitting room in the cabinet under the TV. There is a toilet plunger in the main bathroom. The toilets are the water-saving type so there is no huge flush. The shower curtain has soap stains that do not come out. It is not dirty. But if that makes people uncomfortable, we will get a new curtain. Just like in your own home, we replace kitchen appliances when they no longer work. All of our kitchen utensils are pretty new as we are constantly replacing them. And appliances, stainless steel refrigerator and freezer, electric range and oven, and dishwasher, coffee maker, blender, and toaster are in perfect working condition and are not very old at all. If you have never been to Hawaii, you probably wouldn't know that salty ocean breezes and humidity rusts everything. So yes, you will find some rusted places on the dishwasher racks and on the bottom storage drawer handle of the oven. You also might not know that roaches love Hawaii too. We do tell our guests when they check in that we guarantee that they will see a few if these large ugly beetles, probably in the kitchen and bathrooms -- especially if it has been raining (the roaches live in the ground). Although we have a pest control service (in fact, they serviced the house 7 days before these guests arrived), they can only keep these creatures at bay. There is no way to kill all of them or to keep them all out of the house. They live in all places with tropical climates. We don't like them but they are as much a part of Hawaii as geckos and rainbows. BTW: Geckos come and go in the house too. Our photos have not been retouched. They show the way the house is. Some of the furniture may be different or rearranged but other than that, what you see is our home. If you expect perfectly manicured lawns and shrubbery, with absolutely no creatures ever, a TV in every room, wifi that may never need to be rebooted, and brand new appliances, please do not stay in someone's home. If you are expecting a five-star hotel experience, please stay in a five-star hotel. Aloha and Mahalo.

Very Dissappointing

This house is in need of serious upkeep, The was kitchen poorly accompanying, so we did not cook there. I have many photos but HomeAway does not allow them.

Owner's Response: We agree that our kitchen needs new cabinets. However, they are completely stocked with many dishes, glassware and pots and pans and utensils. The kitchen has a stainless steel refrigerator freezer, a fairly recent electric range and oven and dishwasher, small appliances (coffeemaker, toaster, blender, etc.) The counter tops are tile and the floor is marble. Not sure why you wouldn't want to cook in it. To re-do the kitchen cabinets means taking the kitchen completely apart for several weeks, at least. We haven't had the time to do so. But it shouldn't interfere with cooking. Please understand that this is not a new house. It is 57 years old. And, updates and renovations have been made throughout and are always being made. The cabinets were renovated several years ago. They are now in need of replacement. They get a lot of hard use.

Good place to stay if you aren't too picky

We enjoyed our time staying here. The entire home was clean and well taken care of, and it has some nice areas as shown in the photos. Carol is great to work with and responsive in communication. There are plenty of beach things and other useful items that are there for your use during your stay. The incredible Kailua beach is a 15 min walk away. The Kailua area with the mountains is stunningly beautiful, and an outstanding place from which to explore the entire island.

If you are really picky then you should know that the house is older and shows its age in places, especially in the kitchen. Also there are a bunch of geckos outside (that are pretty cool to watch) and I did kill a couple cockroaches inside - which I am used to doing from living in Houston (in some places it is impossible to keep them all out). So if you are looking for a five star hotel, don't stay here, go find a five star hotel. There are some others living in another building on the property but we generally felt that we had privacy and the place to ourselves.

There is so much positive about this place (see the pictures) that it easily overcomes any drawbacks. The home has a nice retro feel and has some well designed spaces to let in the ocean breezes. Overall, this home was nice and I would stay here again!
