About Rich Summit View

Our family has been vacationing in Boone since 2003 and have been in love with the area ever since. We particularly love getting out on the Blue Ridge Parkway, Moses Cone Property and Grandfather Mountain for trail hikes.

Rich Summit View purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Rich Summit View chose Blue Ridge Mountains

After much searching, we chose this property for is proximity to nature, seclusion (non-winter months) , mountain views and the way the cabin sits on the land. Because of the southern exposure the morning sun lights up the house with natural light and keeps the deck and living room warmer in the winter. Where we are located we can head out in any direction and be in Virgina, or Tennessee in a very short time. Since we are close to the TN border and Watauga Lake we can head there for Rafting or kayaking. Being close to Todd means bicycling and running on Railroad Grade road as well as fishing, river rafting, and canoeing at RiverGirl. We are 5 miles away from Elk Knob State Park, a newly opened park that covers and protects 3,473 acres the second highest peak in Watauga County. This offers a spectacular view for miles in each direction.

What makes this cabin unique

Our side deck, Master Bedroom and Living room all look out onto Rich Mountain. The sun rises over this mountain and shines into the house providing tons of natural light. In the evening sun sets over our front deck which gives you a different perspective of the surrounding trees, colors in the sky are different each day. Get out and take a walk through the neighboring apple orchard or trails.. just enjoy yourself.

One our favorite things about the cabin is the quiet and seclusion that surround our home – you can curl up with a good book or play a board game, with only the birds, wind, and creek as your soundtrack. You'll also love relaxing in our hot tub, kicking back on our deck in the rocking chairs and watching the sunset, counting the constellations, or just enjoying a beverage. But if you're itching to get out and explore, we have quite a few recommendations.

Guestbook comments from the manager

We LOVED your cabin and would love to live here. It is so cosy and peaceful here, and the hot tub at night was great for stargazing. Thanks so much for sharing your home and we definitely plan to return. Our dogs loved it too.

Comfy cabin with nice deck and views of the mountain

  • 4 of 5

My husband and dog were here for the month of September. The cabin was very comfortable, even when we had a couple of visitors for a few days. The deck is like having an additional room, and the hot tub was enjoyable. There are lots of things to do within twenty miles of the location. Reason for four stars, not five? The last few bends in the gravel-dirt road are quite steep and we have a minivan, no AWD, so coming back from outings was always a bit of a nail biting experience, spinning tires and skidding our way into the driveway. Other than that, two thumbs up. The kitchen could use a decent veggie peeler and a few wooden spoons and larger bowls. We are a little picky because we cook a lot, and we were there more time than the average visitor. Generally, very quiet, lots of wildlife sounds, and we thought we saw the Milky Way one evening. Wifi was good, Verizon and US Celluar work, AT&T requires a short walk up the road to the top.

Owner's Response: Your are our first MONTH LONG GUEST! We are so pleased you enjoyed your stay and love some of the very things we enjoy...the natural sounds, the quiet, the deck, and view. We are at 4100 feet which definitely means curves and inclines. We regularly drive our 4 door sedan (not 4 wheel drive) up those roads during non winter times. Our housekeeper comes up each trip in her van so I think its a matter of practice. We are headed there next week to bring up two new quilts my mom made so we can certainly pick up an extra mixing bowl, wooden spatulas and a better peeler. The feedback is appreciated and time saving. We are thrilled you enjoyed yourself. Consider making our place a yearly getaway!

Excellent Property

  • 4 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cabin in Zionville. Being reasonably close to towns, parks and restaurants enhanced the enjoyment of the area. Getting to and from the cabin was challenging however, due to the rugged washboard roads. This was the only serious drawback to an otherwise great experience. The cabin and its amenities were outstanding. Cell phone communication with the outside world was not operational with A T & T service. Recommend calling cards that can be used with the available in-house telephone. WiFi connections were good but we did experience two long periods of spotty service. For future renters, please provide a procedure for re-booting the WiFi router to reset the wireless operation. All in all, it was a great stay.

Owner's Response: We are so happy you enjoyed your two week stay! We work hard to make sure we have some of the extras and amenities that people need and glad you noticed them. Zionville is on the edge of Boone and gives you the ability to stay out of high traffic areas and still get to other local towns as well as TN and VA quickly. The roads at the cabin are gravel but we drive our 4 door sedan up there regularly as long as there isn't snow or ice. Then you definitely need 4 Wheel drive and chains. We have two phones in house, one 911 land lane for emergencies and one WIFI based for all other calling as we too can't get a cellphone signal. The WIFI is the regular residential service. If you were trying to run netflix, make a call and text, it might not be enough but basic email, text and call it is plenty strong. We ask that if any guest has a problem, just to give us or our property manager a call for assistance. We can check with the local WIFI provider to confirm they aren't having an outage and re-set the router of you. Thank you for taking care of our favorite place and tell your friends to spend some time at Rich Summit View.

Great cabin near top of mountain

  • 4 of 5

The cabin was super. Very clean and awesome views. Everything about the inside and out was in top notch shape. It was a little difficult to get up the gravel road but really no problem. Overall a great experience.

What a wonderful place, with absolutely everything one might need!

  • 5 of 5

Such a peaceful beautiful place! The view of Rich Mountain is absolutely gorgeous! To sit on the deck with a nice steaming cup of hot coffee or a glass of wine is heaven. You can hear the creeks below and birds chirping and watch the sun come up behind the mountains. At night, you can enjoy a soak in the hot tub on the deck and feel all the tensions just melt away. The cabin is so comfortable and homey, that you will feel as if you've been there for days from just a few minutes of walking in the door and as if you were visiting a long long friend who you'd feel immediately at home with. Everything you could need or want is there waiting on you. It's also just a short trip to the neighboring towns of Boone and Blowing Rock and many other beautiful mountain spots and there are numerous restaurants in those areas to pick from, but if you'd like to just stay snuggled in the cabin with a bottle of wine and grill a steak and sit by the fireplace, well you can do that to. If you like to get more adventurous and drive some roads off the beaten path, it's very convenient to do that to, a trip to a neighboring county perhaps, such as Ashe or Avery or even a trip to the charming town of Mountain City, Tennessee is not that far away.

I would highly recommend this cozy, inviting cabin to anyone looking for a mountain getaway, whether you are a family or a couple on a romantic getaway or it would be awesome for a girlfriend trip also.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your kind words about our place. We are happy you enjoyed your time at our place. I was watching the weather and nervous after the previous 10 days of rain I was really hoping you would have some sunshine for your stay. It seems to have all worked out! Thanks again for taking good care of our place too!

Great Trip All Around

  • 5 of 5

Your cabin is just what we needed to unwind, relax and cool off. The outdoor temperature of 64 degrees was perfect for enjoying our morning coffee on the deck. We watched the ever changing views of the mountain and felt like we could almost touch the clouds as they drifted by. It is so beautiful and peaceful. After the rain, we walked down the hill to see the rushing mountain stream and pretty mountain flowers. The rain was gone the next day, and we made the short trips to Boone, Blowing Rock, Valle Crucis and Grandfather Winery. Our visit was a great, even though brief, respite from "life". We wish we were still there.

We were very glad we chose your cabin. Thank you!

Owner's Response: Getting a great review is the next best thing to being there for us. If we can't be there to enjoy it, I am tickled that someone else is getting pleasure from sitting there on the deck watching the clouds or taking time to have a few moments of peace for themselves.

Top of the World!

  • 5 of 5

Tucked on the side of the mountain, this cabin offers a feeling of seclusion, without actually being all alone. This lovely home is the cleanest rental we have ever been in. From the moment we drove into the driveway, we were welcomed by the landscaping, filled with beautiful, black eyed Susie's and other native plants. We felt like we were visiting a friends cabin, all the conveniences of home wifi, cookware, washer and dryer, dishwasher, and then some thing we don't have, like that amazing view and a hot tube to enjoy it! It is away from the little towns but we found that googling where we were headed, directed us to routes that provided amazing scenery and cut the time from going through Boone every time. The owner warm, hospitable and accommodating in making suggestions for the visit. So glad we decided on this property! If it's raining on the mountain, go ahead and visit some of the other areas, we found it might be raining in Zionville and clear in Banner Elk (lovely community, good food), or the Blue Ridge Parkway. Boone has a fun atmosphere and some delicious farm to table restaurants. One caution, if you have a very low vehicle like a Prius, you may find the drive a little daunting. We were in a Sequoia, and I was thankful we had plenty of clearance and power. Wonderful stay!

Owner's Response: We love the fact that you mention so many of the things we love. And you are right, if its raining at the cabin and you want to get out... just hit one of the other towns like Banner Elk, Sparta, West Jefferson, etc.. all have great scenic drives. Use google to do some side road driving and get your camera out! There are some great rolling hills and beautiful hills to photograph...Sun, rain, fog or snow.. it's all beautiful. But I love it up there when is just brown sticks and trees too...each season changes the view. We were also glad you got to see the paragliders that were coming off Tater Hill and catching thermals over Rich Mountain. We actually were there last year and witnessed this. It looks very peaceful. Thank you again and thank your Teenagers for wanting to hang out in our place! Oh and by the way, we drive our 4 door VW Passat up there during the summer with plenty of clearance but we absolutely say 4 wheel drive and chains for snow and ice! No exceptions! We are at 4100' and you have to go up and around a few curves to make that elevation change. But its so worth it.

Notes:
This is a true get-away. Unless you currently live on a mountain and have this kind of privacy, its very different. You will feel secluded but happy in knowing there are neighbors close by even if you can't see them from the cabin. It's really wonderful at night to turn out all the lights and sit on the deck. Many nights you will see no other house lights due to the foliage, the sky is clear and the stars seem brighter than ever. We have personally seen deer in the area and have heard of other critters like Wild Turkey, Grouse, and the occasional bear. ** 4WD (all wheel drive), chains or sometimes both when visiting our cabin in the winter months. All other times of the year it is accessible with standard vehicle (we have a typical 4 door sedan we use for non-winter driving and a 4x4 for Winter with Chains in the back just in case) Our roads are maintained and scraped during periods of snow and ice. Please discuss with management if you are not familiar with driving in snow/ice
