This 3-bedroom, 2 1/2 bath home is full of original Folly Beach charm. The house was built in the 1930s as a fishing and hunting camp. My husband and I bought the property in 2004 and with hard work and love, we have turned it into the wonderful home that it is now. We have added all of the modern conveniences while at the same time retaining the classic look of a Folly Beach cottage. In the ten years we have lived here, we have gotten married and had two wonderful little girls, so as you can imagine, the house is very special to us.

The home is ideally located for visitors who want to walk to all of the local attractions. The beach, the pier, and BLU, the only ocean front restaurant and bar in the Charleston area, are within easy walking distance (2-5 blocks). Center Street's restaurants and shops are just two blocks away. Downtown Charleston, with its historic architecture, carriage rides, museums, and fine dinning is less than 20 minutes away as well.

The home itself is just as ideal as its location. The spacious back deck boasts a large dinning table in addition to a relaxing sitting area. The back yard is a private area that is perfect for horseshoes, croquet, or a game of kick-ball. From the backyard, take a walk down the boardwalk through the marsh to a small private island that boasts a hammock and a lovely playhouse. From the island, stroll down the dock right out to the Folly River. The dock is outfitted with a table and chairs, which makes it the perfect place for sunset drinks or a lunch-time swim. Keep a watch out for the wild-life. You'll be sure to see birds, crabs, and dolphin.

Back at the house, you'll find the interior just as special as the outside. From the front porch, step into the living room, which has the original wood floors and a lovely fire place. The living room opens into the kitchen and dinning area. The kitchen is bright and includes gorgeous granite counter-tops and all of the amenities. The cooks in your party will appreciate the attention to detail and will be able to whip up a fantastic dinning experience with ease. Every gadget and accessory has been provided, so don't worry about bringing your micro-zester from home!

Right off of the dinning area is a cozy t.v. room that comes in handy if you want the children to watch a video away from the adults or if you'd like to get away yourself for a little beach reading.

There are three lovely bedrooms in the home. The master bedroom, which has a queen bed, a flat-screen t.v. and a private bath, is on the first floor. The other two bedrooms, which share a bath, are upstairs. One bedroom has a queen bed while the other has two twin beds. All of the rooms are stylishly decorated.

Additionally, the home has such conveniences as a washer and dryer and free WiFi. On your arrival, you'll find the home stocked with a starter supply of the essentials so that you can unpack without stress.

We have a no-smoking and a no-pet policy. We rent by the week in the summer.

About Tara Hock

Brad and I have been living on Folly Beach for ten years. We renovated this home and enjoyed the process so much that we have renovated several other properties. Brad does all of the work himself and his attention to detail really shows. We have decided to move to downtown Charleston to be more centrally located to our daughters' schools. Otherwise, we'd stay right here!

This is a lovely home and was perfect for our adult family of 6.

The home is lovely and comfortable. Check-in and check-out were easy. Close walk to the beach. About 3 blocks. Nice kitchen if you need to cook. We spent time in Charleston as well and it was an easy drive. Overall great experience.

Home away from home

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd stay at this property. We absolutely love this place! You get the best of both worlds with an easy walk to the beach and a beautiful walk down the boardwalk through the marsh to an amazing dock on the Folly River. We spent our mornings and early afternoons on the beach and then loved spending the end of the day out on the dock watching the beautiful sunsets. The house is very well thought out and it really feels much bigger than it is. We had 4 adults and 4 kids and never felt crowded at all. We're looking forward to coming back next year!

We rented this home for a family getaway for the 4th of July. Location was great, home and homeowners were very accommodating. I would absolutely rent this property again.

Full of charm and great location

  • 5 of 5

Felt right at home in this very tastefully and full of charm home. Tara & Brad obviously put a lot of love in their home and the attention to details made it a great place to stay for our family.

All the beds were very comfortable, the kitchen was well stocked, the outdoor furniture confortable. The air conditioning was super quiet and so were the ceiling fans. The house has a really nice gas grill on the back deck and we were able to eat outside a few nights.

Initially, my 85 years old mother in law was going to sleep upstairs with her grandson, however the steps to the second floor bedroom did not have a railing and would have been too difficult for her. It was fine for the rest of us.

Access to the beach was really easy, a 4 block walk straight to one of the entrance and the beach is really nice for families with large "tide pools" at low tide. It is also a short walk to town or to the pier.

If we decide to vacation in the area again, we would definitively stay here again!

Great location, tidy well appointed home.

  • 5 of 5

Tara was exceedingly hospitable. The home was lovely and perfect for small children. Very tidy home and lovingly decorated. Our kids loved the play house. We spent most of our time on the dock and back porch. Thanks Tara!

A Peaceful private retreat to relax and unwind

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay here! We have done many beach vacations but had never stayed on a marsh before. It was so beautiful and private. We were traveling with our daughter's family including her eleven month old. The house provided a pack-in-play, gate, and booster seat. We purchased a blow up baby pool for hours of play on the back deck. It couldn't have worked out any better. It is also a short walk to the beach and town. The house was clean and well stocked with quality lovely furnishings. The beds were very comfortable. It is a five star rental.
