About the property

3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

Come Up North to Gac’s Getaway on Spider Lake to relax and enjoy the lake life. Our two-story cottage has that great beach house feel with South facing views. It’s the best spot on the lake! There are three bedrooms, one bath and a main living/dining/kitchen area. The cottage sleeps six and all the rooms have views of the lake. There is one king, a queen and a double size bed. The kitchen has all the essentials - a full size refrigerator, electric stove/oven and microwave. The bathroom has a tub and shower. GG’s has 60 feet of private beach frontage, perfectly sandy that is only 40 feet from the cottage. As you enjoy your morning coffee in the screened in porch, you will hear loons, see ducks, geese, possibly an eagle and all sorts of other critters.

Spider Lake is a spring-fed, 459 acre all-sports lake. It’s excellent for fishing, skiing, tubing, swimming, and any other water sport you can think of. The lake has several bays and islands to explore. Outside you will find your own dock, the "Blue Fin," a 14 foot rowboat complete with an electric trolling motor and life preservers and also a paddle boat for your use. There is a nice gas grill, outdoor furniture, and a fire pit. If you’d like, you can also bring your own boat, there is a DNR launch site 1.5 miles away.

If you can tear yourself away from the lake, Traverse City is only 20 minutes away with plenty to do. You can enjoy the National Cherry Festival, Traverse City Film Festival, Old Mission Peninsula Wineries, Leelanau Wineries, Casinos, award-winning restaurants and unique downtown shopping. The area is known for its championship golf courses, TART biking trails and extensive hiking routes. This part of Northern Michigan is home to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, awarded “Most Beautiful Place in America” by ABC’s Good Morning America. From GG’s, you can enjoy a day-trip to the dunes and other fun destinations along Michigan’s famous M-22 scenic drive, or visit the Interlochen Center for the Arts, where they host nationally known artists during summer concerts. Cherry Capital Airport is only 20 minutes away. Although you may be tempted to pack your visit full of activities, make sure to leave time to relax and enjoy the beauty that our cottage offers you and your family.

About Jim and Jan gac

Here’s our story…

Jim and I met in 1986 at Wonderland Mall in Livonia, Michigan, married in 1990 and moved to Traverse City in 1994. (Best decision EVER!) We both grew up in subdivisions and that was not what we wanted when we moved to the area, so we found a house on 10 acres and love it. We met some friends that introduced us to boating. We've been to many beautiful lakes, but we fell in love with Spider Lake.

Jim grew up going to cottages with his family all over Michigan. I always went up to Cheboygan to Eddies Cottages. We both have fond memories of going “Up North” to vacation. When I was young I thought “Up North” was the pin pointed destination, not Cheboygan. Now I think of “Up North” as anything north of the Zilwaukee Bridge!

It has been a dream of ours to own a cottage. Jim and I love the idea of families coming up and adding stories and memories to their lives history. We have looked 13 years and found the perfect cottage for us. With a lot of hard work and sweat, we think it's perfect for us and we hope it's perfect for you too.

What makes this cottage unique

Our cottage is just steps from the beach and the largest part of Spider Lake. We face South, so it's always sunny. The beach is sandy and you have to walk out into the water before it gets deep. The water is generally calm in this area of the lake and this body of water warms up quickly. Grab your fishing pole and you can cast right off the dock. In the evenings, you can star gaze and have a bonfire.

Weather was awesome, 78!

What We Did: Paddle boating, fished, took our own speed boat and went to the two little islands and hung out.

Favorite Moments: Wine tasting.....

The cottage is beautiful and full of charm. Very tastefully decorated. Has all the comforts of home!! Loved sitting out by the lake in the mornings and having coffee there. We would highly recommend this place! The lake is awesome, clear water and temp is just right. We enjoyed ourselves... Thank you.

The Gac Getaway is a clean cute cottage on a beautiful lake.

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed this adorable cottage. The owners thought of every detail when decorating this cottage. It's bright and cheery! The lake is beautiful. We loved the no wake hours in the morning and evening. It kept it quiet yet plenty of time for fun during the day. It feels so far out in the woods but was closer to town than I thought. Only 15 minutes to the east side of Traverse City. We stayed for 3 weeks. The owners Jim and Jan were very friendly and helpful with anything we needed. We brought our own kayaks and rented their pontoon boat for 1 week. You definitely want to have these things to enjoy the water and swimmers island. My only suggestion to this little gem would be to have a couple kayaks available with the cottage rental.

Super cute cottage on a beautiful lake!

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay at Gacs and would highly recommend it. The cottage is decorated so cute and was very comfortable. We enjoyed our days splashing in the lake, fishing, campfires, and traveling to nearby Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes, Fishtown in Leland, downtown TC, and even Mackinac Island! The neighbor to the east was very friendly, sharing her beach and dock (a little less seaweed there for the kids to jump) as well as her friendly dogs! Only negatives were the low water pressure in the shower made it hard to wash all the sand off (but understandable with being a well), and the construction next door to the west. Obviously, not the Gacs fault, but all the banging and sawing made it hard to sleep in or just enjoy the sounds of nature. Speaking of nature, we loved seeing and hearing the loons on the lake, watching the chipmunks run around, and seeing an otter swim by a couple times. Again, we had a wonderful time, the cottage was cute and cozy, caretakers were very friendly and accommodating, and we would highly recommend it. We hope to see you soon Gacs Getaway and Spider Lake!

VERY clean!

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time and would love to come back again. Jan and Jim were great. The house was small, but VERY clean and had everything we needed. It was nice to have AC on those sweltering hot days. We enjoyed the lake. It was nice to have the paddle boat and fishing boat for our use. We rented the pontoon boat for a half day and took a ride around the lake (very pretty!). Traverse City was about 15-20 minutes away. We rented paddle boards in West Grand Traverse Bay and paddled up the river and back. Also went to Old Mission Peninsula and stopped at a few wineries. Found lots of great places to eat in town, but also enjoyed hanging out at our own beach on Spider Lake. Turtle Creek Casino was also very close. This was a great house in a great location. Thanks for a wonderful vacation!

Cute lake house with beautiful view

  • 5 of 5

Just want to thank you for your hospitality! If we had any issue you were right on it! Nice and clean. Well maintained rental. Seemed so far into nature as a vacation should be, but a super close drive into the city. Would definitely recommend!

Comfy Cottage on Spider Lake

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay, the views of the lake were spectacular. We started each morning fishing off the dock with our morning cup of coffee and ended each night with a fire. It was very quiet, neighbors were nice. Jim and Jan were extremely nice and very accommodating. The cottage is very clean and nicely decorated.

We loved going to Moomers for ice cream and biking the Tart Trails. We will definitely come back again! Thanks Jim and Jan!
