About the property

3 Bedrooms, 1 Bathroom, Sleeps 6

Come Up North to Gac’s Getaway on Spider Lake to relax and enjoy the lake life. Our two-story cottage has that great beach house feel with South facing views. It’s the best spot on the lake! There are three bedrooms, one bath and a main living/dining/kitchen area. The cottage sleeps six and all the rooms have views of the lake. There is one king, a queen and a double size bed. The kitchen has all the essentials - a full size refrigerator, electric stove/oven and microwave. The bathroom has a tub and shower. GG’s has 60 feet of private beach frontage, perfectly sandy that is only 40 feet from the cottage. As you enjoy your morning coffee in the screened in porch, you will hear loons, see ducks, geese, possibly an eagle and all sorts of other critters.

Spider Lake is a spring-fed, 459 acre all-sports lake. It’s excellent for fishing, skiing, tubing, swimming, and any other water sport you can think of. The lake has several bays and islands to explore. Outside you will find your own dock, the "Blue Fin," a 14 foot rowboat complete with an electric trolling motor and life preservers and also a paddle boat for your use. There is a nice gas grill, outdoor furniture, and a fire pit. If you’d like, you can also bring your own boat, there is a DNR launch site 1.5 miles away.

If you can tear yourself away from the lake, Traverse City is only 20 minutes away with plenty to do. You can enjoy the National Cherry Festival, Traverse City Film Festival, Old Mission Peninsula Wineries, Leelanau Wineries, Casinos, award-winning restaurants and unique downtown shopping. The area is known for its championship golf courses, TART biking trails and extensive hiking routes. This part of Northern Michigan is home to the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, awarded “Most Beautiful Place in America” by ABC’s Good Morning America. From GG’s, you can enjoy a day-trip to the dunes and other fun destinations along Michigan’s famous M-22 scenic drive, or visit the Interlochen Center for the Arts, where they host nationally known artists during summer concerts. Cherry Capital Airport is only 20 minutes away. Although you may be tempted to pack your visit full of activities, make sure to leave time to relax and enjoy the beauty that our cottage offers you and your family.

About Jim and Jan Gac

Here’s our story…

Jim and I met in 1986 at Wonderland Mall in Livonia, Michigan, married in 1990 and moved to Traverse City in 1994. (Best decision EVER!) We both grew up in subdivisions and that was not what we wanted when we moved to the area, so we found a house on 10 acres and love it. We met some friends that introduced us to boating. We've been to many beautiful lakes, but we fell in love with Spider Lake.

Jim grew up going to cottages with his family all over Michigan. I always went up to Cheboygan to Eddies Cottages. We both have fond memories of going “Up North” to vacation. When I was young I thought “Up North” was the pin pointed destination, not Cheboygan. Now I think of “Up North” as anything north of the Zilwaukee Bridge!

It has been a dream of ours to own a cottage. Jim and I love the idea of families coming up and adding stories and memories to their lives history. We have looked 13 years and found the perfect cottage for us. With a lot of hard work and sweat, we think it's perfect for us and we hope it's perfect for you too.

What makes this cottage unique

Our cottage is just steps from the beach and the largest part of Spider Lake. We face South, so it's always sunny. The beach is sandy and you have to walk out into the water before it gets deep. The water is generally calm in this area of the lake and this body of water warms up quickly. Grab your fishing pole and you can cast right off the dock. In the evenings, you can star gaze and have a bonfire.

Weather was awesome, 78!

What We Did: Paddle boating, fished, took our own speed boat and went to the two little islands and hung out.

Favorite Moments: Wine tasting.....

The cottage is beautiful and full of charm. Very tastefully decorated. Has all the comforts of home!! Loved sitting out by the lake in the mornings and having coffee there. We would highly recommend this place! The lake is awesome, clear water and temp is just right. We enjoyed ourselves... Thank you.

A wonderful getaway!!

Even with a little bad luck we had a wonderful time. Cozy, clean, we had great weather, exactly what we needed... only wish we could have stayed longer.

Definitely would go back!

Perfect weekend get away!

  • 5 of 5

We celebrated a friend’s birthday and got the best weather! The cottage was adorable with comfy beds and furniture. ***don’t forget your towels! And there’s no cable or internet- which we enjoyed getting to unplug for the weekend.***

Beach area and dock were lovely and everything was well taken care of. We will for sure be coming back again!!!

3 Generations Fishing and Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful week fishing and visiting relatives with my dad and son. Calm quiet evenings and even the forecasted rain gave us a break most days.

Relaxing lakeside

  • 5 of 5

Great family time with a relaxing vibe. I loved the no-wake on the lake till 11 am. The lake seemed empty midweek which gave us plenty of floating and kayak time. Fishing was fun off the dock and the boat. Hubs caught a northern and my daughter kept reeling in the bluegill and sunfish. We pulled ourselves away for a day in TC for some great shopping and food( filling station, blue tractor and up the mission peninsula for a wine tour stopping to eat at jolly pumpkin. The sleeping bear dunes is beautiful. But be prepared to pay to get into the park and every other dune related idea you have. We chose the scenic drive which was perfect. Places to get out and take pics and watch crazies try to climb the dune.

By far my favorite part was sitting by the lake listening to the loons. So relaxing. Neighbors on both sides were nice.

Very comfortable house that had everything we needed. Thank you Gac’s.

Sweet cottage for enjoying the simple life

  • 5 of 5

This cottage was perfect for our family of four. The simple, uncluttered decor made it easy to relax and ignore the distractions of the outside world. The cottage was extremely clean with comfortable beds. The children enjoyed fishing off the private dock, but we also took the boat out to fish the deeper waters. We enjoyed cooking on the large gas grill and making s’mores in the fire pit. We had friends visit, and there was plenty of space to comfortably relax and enjoy the perfect weather.

This cottage has obviously been restored with love. It is a wonderful place to stay!
